Not just you, Apple seems to be able to change this on their end and they have (temporarily?) gone back to passwords for free/update.

I know that this is somewhat of a shameless plug but we're rather proud of it and perhaps those of you that appreciated it in iOS6 might like this, we released an app back in december that had the same sort of tilt functionality tha apple now have with their shiny dials in the iPod app.

You can catch it in this demo video (without sound sadly) at:

It's nice to see that apple are on the same wavelength as us.

the app can also be seen in use here (with sound!):

Nice work.
I wonder why Apple still hasn't added this effect to the volume slider in the multitasking tray.

Thank you :)

I guess they're just testing the waters- its not something that is a performance hog, at least no more than anything else in the GUI so I hope it gets a full rollout!

Just noticed these:

Audio balance bar is/looks better now and finally theres a sign that tells when its center.

Sorry if this has already been posted but if you send a text as iMessage you can then click on the message's blue bubble and two options appear: copy and send as text message....

An app that has been updated will get a blue ribbon overlaid in the corner that says "New"

This is a horrible feature for me, at least if the banner stays until the app is opened. The joy of using iOS is having all of my apps up to date and knowing it because there are no updates available in the App Store.

Now, every app I haven't used in several months (many games/utilities I want but rarely use on my device) will have this stupid banner. It doesn't tell me anything I don't already know, and will annoy the hell out of me every time I see an icon with it. I'll end up having to open every app I update just to make it go away

:(

It's only doing it on new apps I downloaded, not updates.

That....that.. i just have to know an answer to that. What if they go away when you just lock the screen?

That makes sense, considering that the App Store doesn't kick you back to the home screen to see an app you've just purchased get installed, I can see a slight usage case for the feature, and since 99% of people will open a purchased app as soon as it installs, the banner will be cleared as soon as they locate the app. Thanks for letting me know how it works!

Hopefully we have an answer. The banner isn't for updated apps, as the original post states, just newly downloaded ones. I have to admit I'm more than slightly relieved!

QUESTION: how exactly is Siri integrated with the turn-by-turn navigation? Can you say things like "take me home" or "take me to [contact name]'s house" or "take me to the nearest Starbucks"? Will Siri automatically set up a route?

I think you can setup the home, not sure about routes for contacts.

Yes. Just tried it with one of my contacts.

Siri: "Take me to John Doe's house."

Siri started the maps application and routed it.

I have to type my account password when downloading any application from the store, even when they are free or I previously bought the app thats weird cause a few weeks ago it wasnt like that... :(
I am on my iPad 3 wifi only

im pretty sure this is the way its going to be. you don't need a password for updates though.:D

This has been possible since iOS 5 was released with SIRI. I use it atleast once a week now.
It's not the same thing.

iOS 6 literally needs no other input after telling Siri, "take me home" (or to a contact). It will immediately start navigating. That was not possible in iOS 5.

Awesome. That's what I hoped. What about asking Siri to take you to points of interest like "take me to the nearest gas station"?

Why are the "the"s all highlighted in here? its like the thread where the is red... weird.

Edit: lol, now its gone ;( wish I would have take a pic... Did anyone happen the same with this "the" highlighting?

asking siri "take me to the nearest gas station"? results in siri finding the nearest gas station and giving you directions
