Nobody here (with the exception of 2 other posters so far on this thread) thought that this is a controlled leak by Apple? Apple could have set up this resolution in the simulator in order to make it seem in line with all the other controlled leaks so far.

Leak or not, it does not really matter. It'll still end up being the most sold phone in 2012, even if has only 1-2 month to achieve that.

Who's thumb is this?!?! I have small girly hands (like the dude on those Burger King commercials) and can reach corner to corner of my iPhone.

Yeah maybe if my fingers were locked in one place and I only had use of my thumb in a single sweeping motion, half circle something like this might be accurate, but come on now, who does that? I've seen this used as an example for one handed use and it's ridiculous. Makes me wonder how people can do anything these days.

Apple found a 10 year old girl outside their office in Cupertino to conduct the test.

has anyone considered that all the leaks about the new iPhone design, including the resolution stretching discovered in iOS6 are in fact 'controlled' leaks by Apple? This would distract us and give us all something to whine about while Apple secretly works on the actual new iPhone design which is completely different to what we are seeing!

I'm suspicious about the leaks, after Tim Cook said they were going in to orbit with security for new products. Either Apple have really screwed up or they are putting things out to mislead, which was how I read Cook's comments.

Apple will call it Retina.

Yep, because it will have the same PPI as the current iPhone 4/4s retina displays.

Since it's just a term Apple invented out of thin air, whatever they call Retina is Retina.

No. Apple may have coined the term, but they provided a very strict (yet simple) definition for what constitutes a 'retina display' when they announced it. That definition most certainly is *not* "whatever they [Apple] call Retina is Retina".

Some of you need to go to AA (Apple Anonymous). You're chasing that original high of setting up your first iPhone. It's just gonna be a buzz now, considering we've been analyzing leaked parts for months!

"Put the Magic Mouse down! Seriously! Put it DOWN! Thank you.... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? You hid one in your sock?!?!?!"

Oh, and let's be real. If you currently have a Mac, iPad and iPhone I doubt there will be enough wrong with the new iPhone to persuade you to switch over to Android.

Well it depends... I currently have 2 Macbooks, had 2 iPads and planning on buying an Apple TV soon but I still sold my 4S to get a HTC One X.

I'm still hoping that Apple have held back on the iOS6 UI. They're so much more they could do with the increased height besides adding another row of icons, iOS as a whole is looking really long in the tooth.

I'm hoping, but I have a feeling I'm going to be very disappointed in the next iPhone. To me at least, the iOS 6 announcement was the equivalent of getting coal left in my stocking for Christmas morning.

I never thought I'd say this, but for the first time Android with its Voice Actions and Google Wallet are really looking attractive.

You mean that it will have a 4" screen, but it won't be wider since that would mess with the grip and usage.

Correct. I will fix that....but yes...Apple doesn't seem to want to go wider due to the 'thumb' design and ergonomics and people forget that women are in those studies...not just tech guys with large hands.

The iPhone is the perfect size for single hand/thumb usage. I've seen Samsung Galaxy's and Notes in use...people have to hold and use another hand to navigate = design fail.

Lol, seriously thinking of switching to android (phone only)

Really wanted apple to use that extra space effectively.

I have (had) all three. And switched to an S3.

The game has changed.

Curious as to your reasons. Screen size? LTE? Specific features of Android?

What were your main reasons? Screen size? Sandboxing of apps in iOS?

If Apple is seriously considering a smaller iPad, then why not also two sizes for the iPhone? If the UI is able to scale anyway, then it might make more sense. Making the phone bigger is a serious leap away from their prior iPhones and their customer and developer base. Personally, I am not willing to buy an even bigger phone for casual use. I don’t care whether that is the trend or not.
I think the problem is that smaller than 3.5" is getting much less useful. Palm tried it with the Peeble and a lot of people found 3.1" just too small.

I have to disagree, there is no strict definition for PPI. If there was, all retina devices would be over 300PPI but the Macbook and the iPad is not even close to 300.

Taller

I think there are still two great benefits people are trying to ignore. When using the on-screen keyboard in a browser or app, you may actually have more than 150 pixels of screen space left to work with - making the phone more useful for those tasks, and also for all the 'free' apps riddled with ads, you will have a more normal size screen space left. (Maybe just apply a piece of black tape over the screen margin to block the ads :D)

Looks like I will be moving onto Android.

Only way I'll stay is if they announce something phone specific come sept 12. This design and iOS6 (from what we know) isn't enough to keep me wanting to upgrade.

That's not true. Apple was very clear that the PPI varied by the average distance that the device was used at. They even provided a formula to determine the minimum PPI for a retina display.

Really wanted apple to use that extra space effectively.

I switched to the Samsung Skyrocket in February. I wanted a bigger screen. I wanted something different. I figured if I didn't like it - I would just switch back (I have my iPhone 4 still). I thought there would be a lot I'd miss.

Truth is - both are great phones. Both have their pluses and minuses. But overall - since the switch - I have barely picked up my iPhone 4. And when I do - the screen does feel tiny to the point it's not comfortable to read. The screen quality MIGHT be better - but since it's small compared to what I'm used to now - it's not important (to me).

I'm actually enjoying Android a lot more than I thought I would. But again - both OSes have strengths and weaknesses. No matter which one you choose - there will be things you like/dislike.

I'm glad that at least there are choices.

ETA: I love having LTE. It's FAST!

I initially found the screen too big on the One X on paper. But when I grabbed one, I was marvelled by the screen and how thin/light the phone was compared to the 4S. Really felt like the 4S was years behind. LTE/NFC are just amazing extras. The things you can do with NFC are amazing.

And I'm a previous user of Android (G1 and N1) and I was very confortable with Android and I know that most if not all apps I use on iOS are available on Android.

Dude they have given the definition multiple times. The ppi thing has been explained a million times

I'm not talking about switching from a 4S to a S3. I'm talking about people who have a 4S at the time of the next gen iPhone's launch, and have to pick between a next gen iPhone and and an S3.
