Wi-Fi Plus Cellular question

I had question for anyone testing this new iOS 6 beta.

In regard to "Wi-Fi Plus Cellular", I was wondering if an iOS device stays connected to the wifi network for other features?

For instance, lets say I hook up an Airport Express in my car. But I only want to use it to allow AirPlay to my car stereo. Will my iPhone be able to use the wifi network to AirPlay music to the Airport Express, but use the cellular connection for data?

Thanks.

what do u mean? how can u type an actual query in the address bar without a space key?

if you type say "red" into the address bar it queries your default search engine and goes to the first result (red.com in this case)

try it

Not sure if this is new in this beta or not, but you can now change the vibration for your text tones! Even custom ones! :D

That's been there from beta 1 I think. It is a handy feature as I work in a noisy factory and rely on the vibration alert. I wish Apple would sort the alert/ringtone volume out while listening to music. It's about 10 notches down in volume from the music volume!

So I'm in New York, looking at the New York maps and here is what I've noticed so far.
  • Maps load more quickly, particularly in satellite view, blindingly fast in standard view
  • panning around in 3d mode is less choppy
  • still no flyover for NYC :(
  • traffic data is exceptionally accurate now
  • roadworks/crash sites now give a little detail on the road block
  • MTA subway stops can now be tapped on again (was working in b2, broke in b3)
  • restaurant icons are maybe a little larger?
  • icons are also more numerous; you no longer need to zoom right in to see them all (see attachment?)
  • directions with VoiceOver are more accurate (I have some stories to tell about the last beta directions, I'm telling you)
  • hospitals and museums seem to be better marked (same for Apple stores :D)
  • one-way streets is a must have in this city

I'd like to see them return public transport directions integration, that was a cool feature of the old maps (where it would you give you a list of options for trains to take). Routing apps are fine and dandy but I don't want to have to keep switching apps to get around.

I also live in NYC and Yes I also noticed that it doesn't show or give you options of what train or busses you can take which I miss. Hope they include that in another beta!

Is anyone else having an issue with their wifi? Whenever I try to connect it disconnects me and asks me to login to apple.com

ios 6 restore from backup

It seems I am the only person who had this problem in the 3rd beta. After I updated to ios 6 beta 3, all 3 of my iCloud backups failed to restore. But now apparently they fixed that issue.

Yea, that is not a Wifi issue. The micro_httpd txt makes me think it is an embedded http server, http://www.acme.com/software/micro_httpd/ so maybe you are connecting to a router, or your router is having issues. Either way it is not Apple.com asking you to log in.

Apple has done something really clever.

If you look in the beta 4 changelog under "Safari and WebKit", there's a paragraph that says:

"As of iOS 6, embedded YouTube URLs in the form of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 will no longer work. These URLs are for viewing the video on the YouTube site, not for embedding in web pages. Instead, the format that should be used is described here: https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters."

Go to that YouTube link! It made me laugh quite hard.

Apple rickrolls YouTube??

Awesome.

My image uploads to Facebook seem to be getting resized down to 960x716 prior to uploading, rather than uploading at the full size and having FB resize them. :(

Not sure if this is new or not but Facebook app on iPod touch 4g has landscape mode now.

Uhm. No. It just adds .com to red. This is normal standard behaviour in all web browsers since a long time and has nothing to do with searches. Try it with it a nonsensical word like asdfasnerban to see what I mean.
