Am I the only one that is actually going to miss that app? I use it all the time. Is the mobile site really better than the app?

The mobile site is better than the current You Tube app in my opinion.

For anyone else who is either complaining because of the removal or is a user of the You Tube app,

'Apple confirmed that YouTube will work in Safari and also noted that Google is making a new YouTube app that will be available in the App Store'.

See the below link.

Glad it's gone!

The web app is much better since Native only gets updated once every iOS release. I always hid the native YouTube app on a Springboard page far far away.

Note: Don't be confused; You can still play youtube videos, airplay them, upload etc. You're not losing any functionality as far as I can see.

Making it more difficult to use on my Apple TV IS losing functionality to me. Don't be glad it's gone until it's replaced by something better.

Saving YouTube App favorites

I don't use YouTube much, however since 2007 I have managed to accumulate several favorites. When the app disappears the associated metadata will too, and there go the favorites.

Can these be transferred to a text file or otherwise preserved?

Thanks,

Wrong. The current Youtube app is created and supported by Apple , not Google. Apple didn't bother to put any effort into the app over the last couple of years so now its being pulled and Google are planning their own replacement for it.

It you want to see how the app should work check out the Youtube app on Android.

Why is it Apple's responsibility to replace the app? It is not their product. It is up to the developer; Google/YouTube, to produce a replacement for iOS if they want a stand alone app available on iOS 6.

... can attest to iOS 6's feature set, or lack thereof. I have also [seen the list of new features], have seen the keynote, and, as an avid iOS user, am still underwhelmed.

Maybe we should both calm down.

It's fine if you're underwhelmed with iOS 6's feature set. However, saying that iOS 6 is only Passbook, Apple Maps, Siri on more devices, and the removal of the YouTube app is factually incorrect. You may consider the other features unimportant and not worthy of mention, which, as I said, is OK, but that doesn't mean these features don't exist.

You Tube & Apple TV

You Tube doesn't get a lot of use on my iPhone, moderately use it with the iPad - but it gets a lot of play through Apple TV, I'l be gutted if it's removed.

I would hope Apple throw open ATV to third party apps, which would solve this problem. Playing though AirPlay is too inconvenient.

The only time that the You Tube app would be removed from Apple TV would be when there was either a replacement You Tube app or if Apple were to put Safari onto the Apple TV thus then allowing you to access You Tube from Safari.

I hope so. I use it daily.

I don't get wha everyone's problem is with the YouTube app. Performance wise if it's buggy for you that I understand. However, the app is very simple and straight forward, you search for a video it plays em, what more do you want?

I just hope that Google's app store offering will still show videos ad free.

Don't see the point of doing this. Google will make their own app anyway. It will just drive more people to Android, especially novice users who don't download many apps but just expect everything to work out of the box.

To bad

Youtube will always be available to us and a way to get there. I like having YouTube right there, easy when you need a quick video not opening a page after page.. My main problem with no YouTube is some older users (even some young ones) like my mom who are not very good with these products, so an app made it simple. So that demographic is my only problem with this possible change. On the view point of the younger ones, yes they watch stupid videos, but I'm talking more for those with mental problems that use apps. An overall small demographic but it's still important until an easy replacement.

It's easy to go to http://m.youtube.com then save it to home screen. You DO NOT lose a single bullet point of functionality whether its sending AirPlay vids to Apple TV, liking, commenting or anything. Someone mentioned uploading works right from the camera roll share feature just like sharing anything. AND as Google updates/adds features you have them instantly.

Am I wrong? Would anyone back this up?

That app was the worst and never worked for me, it ALWAYS starts buffering and lagging a few seconds into a video, its been like this since day 1 on three different ISPs i've had since then, never worked.

great job, now remove the newsstand app and give us the option of removing the unnecessary apple apps.

Thanks,

If you login on your youtube account, it will ask if you want to merge your favorites on the device!

Yes it's much much better
just go to m.youtube.com and try it yourself

Always used the browser option over the current app, things like subscription viewing etc was seriously lacking. Would like an app from the app store however.

You and I are going to have to agree to disagree. Apple should not be making using third party apps more difficult, and I hope they see that, and allow Google to offer their own app on the store. Apple does it for Pandora too, which I think is a mistake. Youtube, Netflix and Hulu Plus comprise about 70%-80% of web video traffic. Airplay shouldn't be the only way I can view content on ANY of those three.

I'll download it the minute it becomes available.

And this is exactly why I've diversified my hardware devices ... being reliant on Apple is foolish at best, dangerous at worst.

Who wants to be at the Mercy of whatever Apple decides, goes?? Mobile me, gone, Pro apps gone, Pro hardware almost gone, iOS killing older versions of iPhone, ML not working on older MacPro's (Intel based), etc. etc. Apple is making a fortune from "customers" that are willing (shaking my head) to dump everything they "had with Apple" to get the "New Apple" every year or two.

I'm glad Apple "fear" Google, they should (Nexus 7 is a far superior device than the iPhone or iPad and WAY cheaper than an iPad) ... Safari is a joke of a browser compared to Chrome. So many web sites that just don't work under Safari but do work fine under Chrome.

So I Guess Google can retaliate by having their servers ignore (or be VERY SLOW) all/any iOS Google search requests ;) Apple really shouldn't be pissing off Google, they just can't afford to, not now and not ever.

Oh I know, Apple is going to create it's own search engine and accumulate many years of data that Google has already done ... fail!! Apple is never going to catch Google's shear quantity of data, Bing didn't and Apple will not either.

This was a good move. Hopefully they remove other apps from being loaded onto the phone like stocks, weather and Newsstand and put them into the store instead
