On a related note: Why hasn't Apple bought Vimeo yet? Or a similar company? It seems almost too obvious. They could corner the market on mobile phone uploads if they offered a few interesting, innovative features. (Live streaming + recording on an online server just a press a way in your pocket, perhaps?)
Looks like Google also wants to squeeze out third-party youtube apps:

So people create and upload all the free content for Google and Google makes money off their efforts by putting intrusive ads on the videos. Yup... Do no evil!
I disabled the Youtube app on my iPhone a long time ago... using youtube.com in Safari is a much better way to view videos.
Well looks like that's it for on YouTube on iOS for me... I hate the mobile site because above all else I have to watch goddamn ads before everything. I loathe ads. Thats why I loved the native app so much. Looks like its desktop Safari with Adblock from now on :/
Nothing is free. The ads help keep youtube free.
I'm ignorant in this whole ad-based society, but aren't people supposed to make money off ads if others click on them?Nothing is free. The ads help keep youtube free.
I honestly can't remember the last time I actually opened the YouTube app myself....
I use the youtube app everyday, didn't know there was so much hate for it. It's the only default streaming app, and it starts faster than m.youtube.com. I for one am not happy about this.
Shame, I liked the apps for the iPhone and iPad. Probably be similar apps available in the app store to replace it with though.
Yes, I didn't use the app often, but it was very nice the times I did.
This is a stupid move which forces me not to upgrade my phone. If Google releases an improved Youtube app in the app store then I'll be totally fine.
Personally I'm a pretty heavy youtube user, and I've always used the Youtube App vs the mobile website.. Maybe not the biggest deal, but I've always preferred Apple's Youtube App interface vs the Mobile site..
Doesn't say they are working on their own iOS app:Google are working on their own app, so if you prefer to access You Tube through an app, then you will be able to do this when Google releases their own You Tube app.
Personally I find You Tube through Safari way better too be honest
I hope Google are too working on their own Maps app, has there is no Street View on Apple's new Maps app in iOS 6 from what I've read
----------
There will be, its mentioned on the first page of this topic that Google are working on their own app for iOS devices

We are working with Apple to make sure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users.

The new Apple iOS6
Removing the spyware threat one google app at a time
Just another sign of Apple closing down their ecosystem really, it's a shame that they aren't more open about some things.
I'd have said that it was weird that youtube had it's own built-in app when other services did not and this was just apple putting the youtube app in the app store where it should probably belong. But at the same time they are adding more facebook/twitter functionality to iOS6, so i would be inclined to say that Apple just hate Google!?
How does Apple's license ending to include this app in the OS relate to Apple clsoing down the ecosystem?

You use the compas on a daily basis ???
Can I ask why ?
