To be honest, Apple shouldn't be doing this. Its fine if they remove a Google app from their OS, but they should at least replace it with an equivalent application.
If they don't, it benefits no one.

Why is it Apple's responsibility to replace the app? It is not their product. It is up to the developer; Google/YouTube, to produce a replacement for iOS if they want a stand alone app available on iOS 6.

"We want to ensure that the YouTube experience really sucks on iOS. So we will release the most bastardized and buggiest hunk of junk that Apple will let us get away with and then compare this to our own first-party apps...on Android, of course."

Wouldn't blame them given that Apple created the YouTube app for the iPhone and it's been pretty buggy/lousy for years. In other words - not sure their App would/could be any worse

Pretty nice trolling. I give it a 4/10.

Why not check out Apple's own list of the important new features in iOS 6 before you make such incorrect and subjective statements?

...says the person actually trolling.

FYI, I've been using the beta on one of two fourth gen iPod touches and can attest to iOS 6's feature set and lack thereof. I have also been to that site, am familiar with what it says, have seen the keynote, am familiar with what was said about it and, as an avid iOS user, am still underwhelmed. Where is my incorrectness and what is wrong with subjective statements? Or have you forgotten that you were on a forum? Why don't you go familiarize yourself with the rules of posting before you go needlessly harassing others.

I dont' see how anyone could or would care that the app will be gone. It always gives BS results and is not the full experience anyway.

Good! Now hopefully I'll be able to do what should be one of the simplest tasks yet the iPhone doesn't allow... TEXTING A FRIGGING YOUTUBE VIDEO LINK!

I was starting to feel upset about this .. then I remembered that I haven't actually used the dedicated app in a really long time, since most of the web videos work fine nowadays ..
I guess a well built youtube app would be nice, not sure I would install it though.

T.

Let's work on that Newsstand app now, Apple. Make it optional via the AppStore like iBooks.

good. now with google maps (streetview) and youtube gone (no native replacement except for the upcoming google app which most definately will suck, taken from google's other app qualities), users can finally stop being distracted and focus on using stocks, newsstand, separated photo/camera, contacts/phone and audio/video/podcasts apps. and on spamming via fb/twitter integration. oh wait.

seriously, ios has gone really low lately, except for the permissions settings in ios 6.

I honestly can't remember the last time I actually opened the YouTube app myself....

Me either, but often when I clicked a link it would open the app to show the vid. Now the video will play within Safari I believe right?

Should be okay, as long as it works fine

I wish you could remove any or all of them..... moving them into a folder on the last page works ok too.

Yup, it's just a (small) inconvenience. This way, hopefully the new YouTube app will be much better. After all - it couldn't be any worse than what it'll be replacing!

I have to hope that this won't come to the Apple TV, as there is no other way to view Youtube videos except for Airplay (which would be quite annoying).

The only time that the You Tube app would be removed from Apple TV would be when there was either a replacement You Tube app or if Apple were to put Safari onto the Apple TV thus then allowing you to access You Tube from Safari.

If you don't want to use it, just disable it in the restrictions menu.

Yes. Like the other person said. You can't.

iBooks is a million times better and more useful than Newsstand and it's optional. I really don't understand why YouTube, or Newsstand has EVER been standard with iOS.

I'm hoping this is because there's another app for it in production. The current one is pretty useless - I have a shortcut to the site on my home screen instead of the app.

I think most people have it that way, this app is from google because its basically useless for the most part. If its not from google and its actually been made by apple then they better stop playing fartsy games and make an app that does not suck. Oh wait we have now the basically useless podcast app, what was that mindless garbage ever made, just hurts to think why. :(

Hopefully the next beta will remove Newsstand! :D

Useless also on iphone and unremovable. I hate that!

One of my favorite things to do with my iPod is hook it up to my TV with a dock connector and watch episodes of MST3K on YouTube. I could listen to the audio and control playback with my bluetooth headphones over AirPlay and keep the device locked to conserve power.

Looks like I'll be jailbreaking iOS 6 to retain functionality rather than gain it. :(

Yes!

Glad it's gone!

The web app is much better since Native only gets updated once every iOS release. I always hid the native YouTube app on a Springboard page far far away.

Note: Don't be confused; You can still play youtube videos, airplay them, upload etc. You're not losing any functionality as far as I can see.
