They probably have all the components ready and it doesnt take long to put them together when you have a huge facility just for that :p

Also they send the GM out a week or so before they release anything. So its either, they release the GM on the announcement date and the iPods a week after along with the final iOS 6 or they release the GM a week prior to the announcement.

It makes no sense to release the GM and new iPods/iPhone on the same day.

Sure, but they still wouldn't want to wait to long before they started loading the millions of iPhones they will sell with the pre launch. Seems like they would want to wrap the beta stuff up before the first week of Sept.

Yeah, my guess is they will release the GM close to the invitation being sent out. And iOS 5 will be available day of announcement along with iPods.

Oh, so they can't load the GM on right before they're shipped out? I think at this point, the GM is already done and Apple is waiting till the event to release it, giving them time to load the GM onto the new hardware. I do NOT think the GM has been ready for months now as it would defeat the purpose of the betas.

My sources are saying tomorrow

Your sources were wrong lol

I still think IF there is a beta 5 it will be loke o said waaaay back at the beginning of this thread. The date if there is a beta 5 will be Aug 27th that would be three weeks since Beta 4 and follows the same pattern from beta 1-2 and 2-3 and 3-4 thus far.

As for a GM ready already not likely. Apple will tweak firmware and software right to the last minute if they need too. As for how can they sell millions and millions of iPods, iPhones, iPads etc with the GM already preloaded. Have you not seen the Foxconn plant videos.

There is a software loading area with its own servers hosting the GM files. The devices are made and wrapped in their plastic and kept in a storage area when the GM is finalized apple will load the GM to those servers at Foxconn and employes will connect phones up hundreds if not thousands at a time and the server pushes the update out once loaded the device reboots and is then powered down and packaged.

Only takes a couple days doing this 24/7 with a small army of employees doing this. Then they are flown to USA, Canada etc and shipped in the nick of time for eager consumers. Apple has it down to a science.

iv got a feeling we will get beta 5 tomorrow, and beta 6 within 2 weeks, depending on how well beta 5 is.

maybe go GM towards the end of sep, maybe even oct.
Apple almost always releases iOS betas on Mondays. If iOS 6 beta 5 comes out next Monday and Apple announces new iPhone on September 12 (GM release date), that leaves less than 3 weeks for Apple before GM, which has never happened before. It could still happen, but I am betting on no more beta for iOS 6.

I strongly suspect code freeze is in. Apple is integrating secret features into the branch and fixing as many bugs as possible. And to ease some of your concerns, final iOS developer betas have always been very unstable (especially iPod/Music app).

I don't think that pre-loading the latest iOS on new devices is the deal breaker that it used to be.
With OTA delta updates Apple could always have the latest update download and install during activation/registration.

There are probably candidate GM's. They probably don't have to nail down exactly until sometime next week or maybe, but it's a stretch, the week of the 3rd.

We, of course, as you mentioned, won't get it until the keynote either way.

Assuming 12th is keynote, which I'm not convinced of.

Of course there's going to be a beta 5. iOS 6 is still not close to being ready. Just take a look at the App Store, or Maps.

The final developer betas have always been unstable. After the final developer beta, iOS goes to code freeze cycle. During code freeze, no new features are added, only bug fixes. GM is released internally few days before they are seeded to developers (coinciding with new iPhone/iPad announcement), so that they can be installed to new devices ahead of the launch.

i must say that overall ios 6 betas have been aright, theres still a few issues with beta 4, was hoping would be sorted before we go GM.

i guess if by next monday there isn't a new beta, September 12 could very well be GM day. maybe

I don't understand why some people think we will go straight to GM?? I assume most people belive the likely date for the GM is Sept 12 right? Well that would mean beta 4 for 5 and a half weeks... Has Apple EVER has an iOS beta version for longer than a month?

Yep. iOS 5.0 beta 7 last for 34 days and iOS 5.1 beta 3 lasted for 58 days.
