Widget lovers, I apologise if this blows your mind... but try looking at it like this.

Apps = Widgets

I am going to a Samsung Galaxy s3. Not because I'm necessarily bored, but because I want a bigger phone. I currently use ICS on the Galaxy Tab 2 & think it's great. Like many of you I also just want to do what I want. I don't really care so much about customization.

That galaxy nexus screen looks pretty slick.

I think iOS looks stale but I'm sure Apple's perspective is if it's not broke don't fix it.

That's really not seeing the value of widgets. Widgets are offered as an extension of an app. You can use the app if you want to or use the widget to give you information at a glance without opening the app. Both are useful.

I may be missing something, but doesn't Android also use a home screen (or whatever they call it)? Yes, they have widgets, but aren't those widgets dumped on the "home screen"?

If I read his statement right, he means by default. iOS "dumps" all apps on the home screen by default. You don't have a choice of removing it from the home screen and still being able to have access to it, because if you remove it, it's gone forever. In Android's default launcher, nothing is dumped on the home screen. The user can choose whatever they want to be on the home screen (apps and/or widgets) and still have access to the other apps in the drawer.

Ah, I didn't know about this drawer. Thanks for explaining!

I keep hearing this, but I've never seen a list of how it has "Innovated" and "revolutionized" so much - can you provide a list of (say) 10 differences between the first Android and Android 4.0 that are revolutionary rather than evolutionary?

pop up floating video
Smart Stay
Face Unlock
Android Beam
Direct Dial

Those are all features that are innovative in Android 4.0 from 2.3 alone! Each Android software has brought innovated features from the previous versions. When was the last time Apple released a feature no one else had done before? It's a joke that they advertise Facetime over cellular as a new feature. My HTC EVO 4G 2 years ago was doing that.

Exsqueeze Me,

Thank you! LOL

Smart Stay is corny

Face Unlock can be tricked by using a picture

Android Beam - and how long has Bump been out on the iPhone?

Trotting out gimmicky features that have been either defeated easily or were already used (Bump) is not impressive.

Keep trying though..this is amusing.

You mean like when Apple did 3D flyover maps and turn-by-turn directions a year after Android did it?

You mean like last week?

LMAO nice post! LOL an iphone user talking about gimmicky? Gimmicky is a smart phone that can't cut and paste, voice dial, or send and receive mms.

By the way I like how you deleted the pop up floating video comment. You must like that feature don't you. :D

and another thing you forgot to answer: When was the last time Apple introduced a feature not yet done before?

Oh there is no doubt Google has a huge leap ahead in terms of Maps. However, them losing the iOS platform and being payed a royalty isn't what Google was hoping for I am sure.

Apple if you folks remember was pretty comfy in bed with Google at one time. Then they sort of went their own way and Apple having their own maps is a natural evolution.

But your point in my opinion is about as moot as the rest of the nonsense you've been spouting.

I never propped 3D Flyover as some great innovative technology. Strawman. Apple would have probably never got into mapping if Google hadn't gotten into making Mobile OS so it was never a race were both companies left the starting line at the same time. Nice try though.

iCloud. I've said this before. No one has integrated such ambitious sync technology into the OS.

Laugh whatever you want off but Apple is one company that sells more phones than most of the Android vendors combined and for 4 years they were on a single carrier.

You may as well quit. You're not persuasive. Stick with you Android and realize that very few of us will be jealous.

It would be nice if Apple made a widget compromise where apps can be set to show up in notification after a certain amount of time with a review of what's going on. That way they don't need to redesign the screens and you can see app updates without opening the app.

iCloud? Do you even realize that Android has been about the cloud since its existence over 3 years ago? LOL People have been using Google Docs before you even heard of icloud.

It's very clear you know very little of what you post about. So again, what features has Apple put on the last 3 iphones that had never been done before?

Rogelio

You're not going to play the "it's very clear....yadda yadda yadda" thing with me. I already know you don't have the technical chops.

iCloud is a synchronization tool. It has very little to do saving documents into storage in the sky.

If you need for me to break it down like you are a 5 year old just ask.

It's a backup tool as well. You can store a backup image of your phone there instead of with iTunes. Be a little more forthcoming when you do this.

So is Icloud an iphone feature or is it servers apple uses to store your information? Sorry but microsoft, Google, and dropbox to name a few were using cloud services way before apple was.

iCloud is not an iphone innovation, so I refer back to my original question. What features has Apple released that haven't been done before?

Everything is derivative if you go back far enough.

Siri is going to be the single most important interface over the next decade.

This is one of those moments (disk drive, USB, Graphical GUI, Object Oriented Programming) where Apple puts an idea into consumer's hands literally YEARS ahead of everyone else.

An intelligent Assistant has been the dream of software and computer engineers since the early days of the explosion.

Always on, always connected "computer", learns your habits, responds intelligently. This is what they talked about at the beginning.

Siri is rough at this point, but I believe it will revolutionize how a consumer relates to their "computer" (Mac, iPhone, iPad) over the next ten years.
