Wouldn't it be better if iOS supported app-based plugins instead? It would make much more sense to me to download the Facebook app and then get the appropriate system-wide features, even when I am not using the app directly. I don't like this approach for two reasons. First, if I don't use Facebook, I will be stuck with unnecessary Facebook integration. Secondly, why is Apple making the choice for us? It's not that Facebook is the only social network.

so much facepalm in these replies. I for one wouldn't mind facebook integration. just disable if you don't like it, don't need to get all butthurt about it.

Facebook and twitter may also integrate with the Apple TV OS... If not in the next coming months, then it will certainly be in the near future.

:D

Good move for Facebook users, it should make life a bit easier when it comes to sharing content.

All I have to say to the moaners is that no-one is forcing you to sign-up to Facebook, download the app or use the iOS 6 options.

as long as you can turn it off, I'm OK. Don't even have a FB account (anymore).
I like the Twitter integration btw.

If it can be tuned off or ignored i don't care but I personally hate the idea of facebook getting onto my phone or computer. I just don't see why Apple are aligning themselves with these parasites.

It would be like Twitter, if you don't turn it on you won't see the integration. So, yeah, you won't be stuck with it.

I am grown up which is why I am not using FB... Prefer real social interactions, remember, the ones where you actually talked to people

I can see it now..

I hope it is an optional install but doubt it.

There is nothing a would detest more than somehow having anything to do with Facebook. The mad dash to accommodate FB on every app and website is driving me mad. I have never written a bitchy email to Apple before but if FB is built into iOS's DNA Mr Cook with be getting a earful.

Don't care if it theres or not, just like twitter integration it will be there but doesn't have to be used, won't force a sign-up

I have been using facebook less and twitter more....

I'm on MySpace... will they add integration for me too? Kidding, of course.

Yes, because everyone you know or care about is immediately accessible for face to face conversation.

If Apple is actually the one to develop and code the integration, maybe Facebook on iOS won't be such a horrible and buggy experience anymore.

And the people he has read his emails will delete it quicker than it took you to write it. You don't have to use the integration if you don't want too. But because you don't want something doesn't mean others also don't. Apple isn't catering to you specifically, I hope you realize.

Facebook is a joke and anyone who uses it probably has no social life, hence them being on it. Why do they feel like they have to integrate this crap!!!???

No thanks

I'm OK with it as long as there is a centrally located OFF button. Facebook cannot be trusted with user data and if an app requires FB login (e.g. Pinterest) then I don't bother with it.

Isn't Facebook rumored to be coming out with a phone? I can't imagine Apple would like that very much.
Ignoring the fact that a facebook phone is a godawful idea that apple has no reason to worry about, now that fb will be so integrated with ios, theres even less reason for one to exist.

I feel like Apple is doing it more to piss off Google, more than anything else. FB sucks and SHOULD NOT be integrated into anything, much less the iOS.

Facebook is not a social life-replacement. For many people, it augments their social life in great ways. This idea that anyone that uses it is a recluse and therefore not worth catering to with technological solutions is ridiculous.

There are meaningful use cases. Just because you don't have one doesn't mean others shouldn't either.
