Facebook is a joke and anyone who uses it probably has no social life, hence them being on it. Why do they feel like they have to integrate this crap!!!???

Pretty much the ONLY thing I use Facebook for is to respond to invitations for events friends are throwing and to keep track of when and where they are.

So...maintaining a calendar of social events = no social life?

I'm OK with it as long as there is a centrally located OFF button.

Are people really worried that this won't be the case? That Apple will force you to sign up for Facebook if you don't have an account?

Seems like a weird fear, but pretty much 90% of this thread seems to be people who believe it.

Facebook is not a social life-replacement. For many people, it augments their social life in great ways. This idea that anyone that uses it is a recluse and therefore not worth catering to with technological solutions is ridiculous.

There are meaningful use cases. Just because you don't have one doesn't mean others shouldn't either.

Uh NO!

Shut up, you know I'm right!

My plan:

1) Download and install iOS 6
2) Turn off FB
3) Check out new maps app and other cool stuff in the update

Are you people seeing something that I'm not?!?!??!??!??!!? Would integrating Facebook into iOS in the same fashion that Twitter is integrated do anything to change how you use your iPhone? No, of course not. Nobody is saying you HAVE TO share things on Facebook. Nobody is saying that in order to use your iPhone you'll need to sign in to Facebook. I'm sure if it does happen it will just make it easier to share a picture or article. I understand privacy concerns but some of you people make no sense at all.

I am grown up which is why I am not using FB... Prefer real social interactions, remember, the ones where you actually talked to people

-- Said the man on an internet forum.

Because only children use facebook. And all the "grown ups" that you have "real social interactions" with, they don't use facebook either, right?

I really think its about time and strongly hope that it comes to LionOS too in apps like iPhoto.:)

I'm not too fussed about iOS/Facebook integration, but I would like a fast, fluid, feature-filled and bug-free Facebook app for iOS.

Yay! Always wondered why they only offered Twitter integration! Why all the bitching? Just don't turn it on? I don't use Twitter, you didnt catch me pissing and moaning and effectively saying "I don't want it, noone else should have it". I have Twitter turned off, you can turn Facebook off.

No, you prefer face to face social interactions, thats why you don't use Facebook. Not vecause "I am grown up". The fact you demonstrated your belief that only immature people or children use Facebook, just shows how immature you really are.

Facebook value can't slide fast enough for me. C'mon MySpace. History repeat immanent.

Seriously? Just don't use Facebook if you hate it that much, but me and hundreds of millions of others like it, I can keep in touch with my friends who are now all over the country, I used Facebook to be re-united with Family members who'd dropped under the Radar and thought I'd never see again, I can see how my Air Force buddies are doing in Afghanistan and the Falklands, I'm sorry, you don't like Facebook? I'll close my account and pray that they fail so other people can't enjoy it with me.

OK as long as they make it optional like Twitter is. I'm definitely not going to use this.

It wouldn't be entirely out of range for Apple to go through all the WWDC stuff with it and still deprecate the feature before final release.

But this does address the financial news concerns voiced that Facebook has no mobile strategy. Being in iOS6 on a system wide level on a platform with historically rapid uptake and very rapid new user uptake, means FB has a fully baked mobile strategy from day one of iOS6. This is contrary to rumors which have been focused on a FB branded phone which all agree would take considerable resources and time and may still fail loudly.

This may not be a buy signal for FB stock quite yet, but when it does bottom out under $25, more likely $18, one can begin to accumulate. I would still far rather own AAPL, GOOG or even XON.

Rocketman

I was a Facebook user within about a year of launching (when it was clean and simple), but my account has been closed for a couple years now for a few good reasons:

  1. Huge time sink. Makes me less productive.
  2. Personal information gathering. I'm the product? No thanks.
  3. Privacy was always at risk. Sharing with friends my online purchases? That was the last straw.
  4. Clutter. Constant changes that add more layers of crap and unnecessary complications. Pretty much goes against all of Apple's design principles.
  5. Douche. Zuckerberg is kind of a douche. I don't trust him.

If a website or app only offers login options through Facebook then they don't get my time or money. The only benefit I could see from lower level integration in iOS would be keeping contacts always up to date. But seeing how most people don't even know most of their Facebook “friends” in real life, it would probably just add more clutter—which is Facebook's M.O.

complete facebook integration in iOS6, till.... the launch of the facebook phone, that will look like an iphone.

Go ahead, downvote me - I find people that seem to piss all over Facebook FAR more annoying than Facebook is. It's just so cool to hate the popular stuff, right?

It's a fun place to check up on friends, family, co-workers, etc. I get to see old friends and classmates that I hadn't kept up with in over a decade through Facebook.
I can see what family members are up to that live a thousand miles away.
It's a super easy way to share photos. Instead of bringing a stack of photos to a friend/family members' house, I just tell them to check Facebook.
It even acts as a centralized account system! Other sites & apps authenticate through Facebook now.

But ... it's really popular now. So all the hip people like to say how TERRIBLE it is. The reasons people give for hating Facebook just seem stupid.

FB could be the next Google for Apple. Friend today. But wait until they start offering their own phone and app store.

It seems to me that Apple would be wise not to create reliance on FB. Why would they want to trust their app ecosystem's identity system on something not owned by Apple, and owned by FB. Tim said they like to control all of the key "technologies."

If I were Apple, I would be pushing for the mobile identity to come from your Apple ID, not FB. It makes more strategic sense.

Also, it's ironic that the web is on fire today with articles how Facebook's "Like" buttons are being used to turn you into a promoter without your consent. The use of your picture, likes, and purchases, are all fair game.

Apple, you need to think ahead of the trend here. People are quickly wising up to the problems with "sharing" and "liking" with Facebook. Almost all apps give you an alternative way to register. I don't want my OS with all of my most private information to be integrated with FB and their duplicitous framing of what "privacy" means.

I'm not completely sure why everyone is freaking out over this...it's essentially like having the Facebook app installed on your phone, only better...instead of apps jumping back and forth to Facebook, authentication, sharing, etc will be native to the OS...that's all...

Much like people who don't have Facebook installed, it will be like the many features you probably don't use...

For us developers, this is great news...twitter integration made life so much easier,...and iOS 6 cannot get here fast enough...I don't like all the hoops to jump through for FB integration and authentication,...plus overall it's just a poor user experience in my opinion...I'm sure Apple and FB have streamlined it all, to make it as seamless an experience as possible...

And if you don't like FB, then continue not liking it, because you'll never know it's there unless you actually TRY to use it...much like your calculator app...I don't see Sliding Ruler fans freaking out over the built in calculator app,...
