ios 7.1 battery sucks.

Yesterday i downloaded ios 7.1 and installed it onto my iphone 4. ever since then it sucks and it has gone from 100%-30% with only 45 minutes of use instead of a whole day when i had 7.0.4 jailbroken. deso anyone know a fix for this or should i just use my shsh blobs and go back to 6.1.3?

DFU restore, set up as new. Then use for a few days without restoring previous data.

Do you think 18 months is not a long time for a smartphone ?

Up until earlier this year, normal service contracts in Canada were 36 months o: They're not allowed to be longer than 24 months now, but 18 months with a phone isn't reeeally as long as it seems.

Also, this is what I'm approximately seeing now on an average day with a mix of music/texting/browsing the web on 7.1 on my 5s, seems to be slightly below what I got on 7.0.x:

Noticed my battery life has been pretty bad over the past few days and this makes me think that its related to the iOS 7.1 update. My battery hasn't been too great since I got my phone - maybe average round 6 hrs if I'm lucky, but recently I might get about 5 hrs tops. And it seems to be counting more usage time than actually used. For example, it added about 5 minutes of usage between about 20 seconds of checking.

EDIT: FYI using an iPhone 5S

I have an iPhone 5S, and for me the battery was better in 7.0.6

Sometimes I don't get this updates, it took more to release than 7.0, battery is worst, the visual changes are ugly, the fat letters on the keyboard look so bad..

I love Apple, but come on, this update really sucks.

Everything has been good for my iP5 since I did an erase/"new" restore. It might not be better than 7.0.x, but it's certainly no worse.

Right after the first update, it was chewing through the battery a bit too rapidly when on standby.

Standby life is now great; I could see it lasting for most of the original spec, even though the original battery is probably 1.5 years old.

OTA - Restore as new iPhone seem to do the trick

So I updated to iOS 7.1 yesterday around 2PM from 7.0.6 (I previously had 7.0.4, 7.0.5, etc). I had 87% battery, and closed all apps before starting the update - I did however, update OTA.

Normally I am quite keen on my battery life and drain throughout the day. I notice when my phone has been sitting on my desk for a while exactly how much the percentage has gone down (or not gone down) whenever I check it.

Generally speaking (on iOS 7.0.4-7.0.6), if my phone is on my desk, and I'm not using it (only receiving emails from one account) it'll drain maybe 1-2% in a couple hours (this is assuming I am not in a texting conversation). After updating to iOS 7.1, I messed around for 5 minutes or so checking out what was changed (animations, etc), and then I put my phone back down. The next couple hour period it had drained 4%, doing nothing different. After a few hours I noticed this was a constant thing, so I charged it fully to see if it needed to re-calibrate or whatever.

That night I put my phone in do not disturb before bed and for 8 hours it just sits there doing nothing. It generally drains 1-2% (on 7.0.4-7.0.6), but last night it drained 5% overnight. Also before bed I was asking Siri some questions (Just stupid things like tell me a joke - 4 to 5 times until she finally told me one :D) and the battery had drained 4% in the 5-6 minutes I was talking to Siri. I noticed a little bit yesterday that active use seemed to drain battery a little more than usual too (other than that one time with Siri).

Anyway I just wanted to ask if:

1) Other people have noticed the same thing (as I thought 7.1 was supposed to improve battery even further)

2) Maybe mine is just a little messed up because of the OTA and I should try to reset and then restore my phone to see if that fixes the drain...

P.S. It's not like a huge drain, but I was very happy with how efficient my phone was before (especially in standby). Even though it's only maybe 10% worse now, it feels like I have to worry about my usage now, which I have never really had to do before.

I did a OTA restore as new iPhone - and it seems to have "fixed" the battery life. Like the way it was pre 7.1 update.
:)

awesome, one of the few 7.1 users with good battery life it seems

Quite the contrary: there are just a few complaining and in almost all the cases the only problem is their software installation.
7.1 changed nothing in my battery life: I can still reach the 8 hrs limit.

Something could be working on background causing your battery drain.
5 hrs for an iPhone 5s are not good at all, except if you are under a very poor network connection.
Try to restore as new and reinstall your apps from scratch (do not restore a backup already stored). And avoid very old apps that could have some problem with the last iOS.

Someone that has been following this issue/thread, can you sum up what most people think the problem might be for this battery drain?

There really doesn't seem to be anything in particular, nor does it seem to really apply to all (or even many/most) users.

I'm having a severe drainage in the battery it can drain more like 30% in less than an hour on the 3G..

I had been having the severe battery drain ever since updating to iOS 7.1 and had noticed that the Location Services icon was staying up non stop. So I did some digging in the Settings to see what was using it and saw that it appeared to be the Nike+ Move app. I deleted that app just to see if it would make any difference and now the battery drain issue is gone. It's been over 2 days now so I think it's safe to say that it was strictly that app and not iOS 7.1 itself on my iPhone 5s at least.

Most of the times just software issue ... A clean install with a new installation of apps (not restored via iTunes/iCloud) could solve the problem.

Most of the times is something like that: an app went crazy after the update.

Had 3G data toggled off... sure gives amazing battery life :p Been sat on my desk most of the time as I've been doing assignments... but used it for at least 5 hours or so...
