Even after upgrading to iOS 7.1b4 I am still getting a lot of application crashes especially from Safari. All the crash logs show "low memory" errors so either memory management in iOS 7 is horrible, Safari has a severe memory leak or garbage collection bug, or the iPad Air does not have enough memory for basic operations such as web browsing with a few open tabs.
I'd suggest a full restore as new (without any iCloud or iTunes backups) and load all of your apps manually from the App Store purchased section - following this proven process had lead to resolution of many crashes.

I follow this process for every build on each of my iPhones and iPads and have only had two crashes on 7.1 beta 2 and later.

Do a clean install. I experienced dozens of crashes daily on iOS 7.0.x but updating to iOS 7.1 beta 2 practically killed those crashes. I only saw it once or twice for nearly a month now.

Personally I think 1GB of RAM on the Air is insufficient. I returned my Air because it couldn't keep a few tabs open. Hopefully the next iteration finally gives it the 2GB it deserves.

I agree 100%.

To the others that suggested a complete clean install, I will try that tomorrow however that doesn't explain the others who are having the exact same issue:

Sure it does. Apple has never perfected the upgrade process. So upgrading over and over will eventually lead to a messed up OS. Absolutely proven. And that will force you to do a clean install.

One note, after you do a clean install I would not restore from a backup. A clean install means you start over.

Has that really been absolutely proven for everyone in all cases? Mainly curious if most people really need to go through that whole process even just here and there or will most usually be just fine upgrading when updates come out over the couple or so years that they'll have their phone/device.

Checking in to say 7.1 B4 on an iPhone 4 has, like the previous 7.1 betas, increases the usability and speed of this phone. Double tapping into the quick change menu, and immediately swiping up to close an app happens almost instantly now. Tapping Settings and immediately swiping to scroll registers the motion also almost instantly. Can't think of any other test scenarios because everything is starting to finally feel natural, so feel free to ask any questions. The iPhone 4 on iOS 7 will never be perfect, but it's at least starting to feel like a solid experience again.

Can you tell if typing lag is improved and if the opening time fot the Apps not in backgroung is improved too?

In all cases, no. In majority of cases? Yes.

It's a cumulative issue. When presented with problems such as yours, it's time to do a clean install.

So then it sounds like mainly in cases of some issues mentioned in this thread.

Can someone who has tested B4 on an iPad 2 say if Apple has added the "Blur" effect to Control Center? It's enabled in spotlight but not control center.

It appears they have but it's still more opaque than Spotlight - might be due to the dock underneath control center?

Yeah I am not convinced either. I have always updated and have never had an issue. I typically close all apps and reboot before doing the update. Also typically a "reset all settings" is sufficient to resolve any issues after upgrading. I have had to do that a few times back in iOS 5.x.x. Never had an issue restoring then restoring a backup either (followed by reset all settings). So perhaps some basic procedural changes for folks who have trouble upgrading may be of help.

does 7.1 improve Siri's pausing on things such as full stops and commas? I find there is no pause between full stops on 7.0.4.

It seems the battery in beta 4 is no where near as good as beta 3.
None of my System Services in Location settings has been altered, and I truly am using the phone like always.

I know this because of set times in the day I use my phone. Even whilst my phone is on standby for an hour or two at a time whilst I'm at work it's draining much quicker than normal.

Anyone else?

To the guys who give Apple feedback on new betas, tell them the new Shift key implementation is asinine.

Thank you.

Not for me all seems fine. Maybe you should "reset all settings" and see if it will clear it up. This is being discussed here as well iOS7.1 beta4 Battery Life
