I hope Gruber is right. I would hate to see Apple trying to please the "out of work" designers and hipsters looking for "different" every year. Let microsoft chase that market segment with their stupid metro.

I don't mind a bit of toning down of the textures but the current UI works for regular people. Let the hipsters go use windows phone because I don't care what they think.

I'm sure the hipsters loved the Microsoft Kin too and the Zune. After all, they like fixie bikes which is really, really stupid. Why would you want a bike that is harder to use than it needs to be?

Well, i've liked most of the "leaks" so far. So the fact that they are "all wrong" is really not a good thing in my eyes.

Exactly ;)

Que up the (paid) Android/Samsung-employee-posing-as-a-normal-MacRumors-poster invasion for tomorrow.

And oh God.....the whole removable battery/memory card thing is so overdone. I have no need to switch out a battery, and no need for a memory card. ...

LOL. The Android/Samsung troll-zombies are so easy to spot too. They mindlessly
copy / paste buzzwords and "hot button" phrases from a list and mash them up into a "comment."

Speaking of which, I think we should add "true multitasking" (etc.) to the "hot button" phrase list.
Let's do an experiment tomorrow: we'll count the number of times that Android/Samsung trolls
post comments with the following phrases, and see which is the most popular:

- "Memory card"
- "Removable battery"
- "True multitasking"
- "Super AMOLED"
- "Five inch screen" and/or "Big screen"
- "Market share"
- "GHz CPU" / "GB RAM"

(My guess is that "Five inch screen" / "Big screen" will be #1 with "True multitasking"
a distant #2.)

And let's not forget those tired old single-word cliches that are completely irrelevant
in the current Samsung-only Android universe:

- "Open"
- "Free"
- "Choice"

(Because of Samsung's total and complete dominance over all other Android hardware makers, it's
possible that these words won't appear in too many paid troll comments. But the amateur trolls,
the ideologically challenged zealots who rail against Apple without being paid a single red cent,
will probably stick to the tired old irrelevant and obsolete "Open" "Free" yadda yadda.)

Also, just for our own amusement, here is a list of words and phrases that Android/Samsung trolls
will post zero times in the comments here tomorrow:

- "Android 4.3"
- "Malware"
- "Tizen" / "Bada"
- "HTC" / "LG" / "Blackberry" / "Windows Phone"
- "Battery life"
- "Plastic"

Why not? Because their Android/Samsung bosses told them not to.
Samsung doesn't like even mentioning the word "Android" any more.
Because they don't need to. The word "Android" has no marketing value add.

Finally, let's not forget poor old Andy Rubin's definition of "open." And let's also remember
that he was either kicked out of the Android group or got sick of it and asked for a transfer.
Andy's definition of "open" won't appear here tomorrow either. Just for posterity, here it is:

"mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make"

Show the above to your average Android phone user and they'll run away screaming.

Oh, and sorry but I won't be able to personally do any counting all day Monday.
I'll be at #AltWWDC, right around the corner from WWDC.

Here's a thought. I think Apple could possibly announce that there won't be Mac OS X 10.9 - instead, they're going to go back and 'reboot the franchise', if you will, and the next version will simply be called OS X.

On a slightly more optimistic and personal note, they'll also announce they're going to bring back the rainbow Apple logo but with gradual colour changes instead of solid bands of colour. One can hope!

Who said iOS 7 was going to be like windows phone? I wasn't aware there's only one way to do flatter design. Or that regular people need skeumorphism, textures, gradients, etc. for the phone to work for them. As far as "looking for different every year", iOS hasn't really changed much since it was first released in 2007. Also I seem to remember lots of complaints here and elsewhere when the 4S looked like the 4 and the 5 was just a stretched 4S (according to the complainers). Now all of a sudden Apple shouldn't change anything because that equates to chasing after "hipsters"?

Maybe I'll watch the first iPhone keynote again. Thinking about the possibility that Cook will use statements like "amazing", "great" and "the best we've made so far" gives me the chills. Makes him sound like an old dirty man.

Yeah, I miss Jobs for sure. Lets hope Ive will do this one.

I was about to post the very same thing. That is the hole pattern used on the speakers on the laptops and the Mac Pro cases. It does not show up on ANYTHING related to the iPhone or iPad. Could this suggest the integration of iOS7 with OSX?

I for one would love to run iOS aps on my desktop or laptop. I have been amazed no one has made an emulator to do that yet.

Curious minds think alike ;)

What I want is more iCloud integration.
I would like iCloud to provide
1. database services
2. hosting services
3. webapp services
4. mobile app services
5. and many more...

Apple's product development DNA is one where if a customer thinks they want it, it's probably wrong for the customer.

And if I was a counter intel person, I'd seed the rumor mill with customer plausible stuff (like a magician... you want people to look where they want to look, feel they NEED to look, and then pull the the 'Ta-Dah' moment someplace where your completely not expecting).

This is even more important where the competitors are trying to 'anticipate' what to put in their products to quickly turn products for the holiday season.
Apple going someplace no one expects set them back, moreso as they don't know if the market is ready to accept it.

Or, it's Gruber's sources' handlers being particularly tight with facts, and 'anti-facts,' because it may be totally underwhelming.;-)

I've thought that for a while, and since the slight re-branding of Mac OS to simply "OS X", I've thought it even more.

Apple is not going to want to abandon the brand name that is OS X. The problem being that they are running out of cats and update integers.

Cats is not an issue, they can come up with something new. The problem becomes what happens after 10.9.

Do they dare break the rules and call it 10.10, 10.11, etc.

Or do they simply go OS XI, and start with 11.0, 11.1, etc.

----------

My bet is that they are transitioning to water animals by calling it "SEA LION", the killer of penguins.

Followed by Orca...the killer of Sea Lions.

Who said iOS 7 was going to be like windows phone?

he didn't. he just said that microsoft is chasing down those that seek change for change's sake.

he did seem to link 'hipsters' with Microsoft... dunno about that. That seems more marketing trying to say 'YOURE DIFFERENT.... BUY OUR DIFFERENT COMPUTER OS... BUY OUR DIFFERENT PHONE' to people who feel insecure enough to decide the phone or the computer OS you use defines you as better than others.

I think Microsoft is trying to link MS with the youthful bougie class... but I don't think that's so much hipsters as young college/firstjob people who haven't committed to an e-ecosystem (those with jobs, mortgages, kids dental bills have likely decided that amazon, google, ebay, or Apple are their partner for their online economic life.).

Yes, but no.

Yes in the way that it undoubtedly refers to further tight integration between iOS and OS X.

No in the way that it doesn't mean something as dramatic as a unified OS, or iOS apps running in some horribly poor Mac App simulator.

It's because every time you hit refresh they get new ad hits for revenue.

It's a "feature".

Good points. Maybe they want more page hits that an iOS app wouldn't provide.

And their site sucks with Tapatalk, whereas 100% of the other sites I use with it work perfectly.

They don't have an iOS app either.

They don't have auto update when new posts are added as almost every other forum does

They seem to be stuck in the 2007 era much like Apple.

Quite ironic that the biggest Apple fan site in the world does not have an iOS optimised site, don't you think?

Because they haven't released an iOS optimized version.

Why do I have to switch to the full site every time I want to thumbs-up a post?

Yep. Welcome to iOS 7. Our #1 tentpole feature, Vimeo and Flickr integration. :D

Hahaha, this one is so true:

"GHz CPU" / "GB RAM"

My eyes roll to the back of my head whenever I hear about all the processing power that is available in Samsung phones (to power all that unnecessary bloatware, as it were).

But seriously, it will be a major troll invasion tomorrow.
