Lots of reasons. The main one being that if you use your mac for work, iOS's interface is never going to be anywhere near as productive. Junk like Launchpad has no place on a desktop OS.

Yes, and if the underlying OS is identical but the mobile version boots into Springboard and the desktop version boots into Finder.app who cares?

Who cares what the stuff that you don't see does as long as the computer does it efficiently.

Hell, I couldn't give 2 ***** if they port their desktop OS to ARM as long as it "just works". Sure people would bitch and moan but it would be over nothing.

No one cares how it works as long as it "just works" yet the .0001% of people who have nothing better to do with bitch just to bitch.

The same thing if they combined iOS and OSX.

2013 WWDC jacket. I like it. :)

Hahaha, this one is so true:

"GHz CPU" / "GB RAM"

My eyes roll to the back of my head whenever I hear about all the processing power that is available in Samsung phones (to power all that unnecessary bloatware, as it were).

But seriously, it will be a major troll invasion tomorrow.

LOL. Agree.

Think of it this way: all that troll traffic will simply add to MacRumors' page hits.
Which will help MacRumors to generate even more revenue.
Which is a good thing for MacRumors and all of us.
Yay.

iOSX just wont happen anyway.

The reason is that it is obviously a very bad idea and also the exact opposite of the whole strategy that worked for Apple. The iPad was a success precisely because it is not an "hybrid OS" that try to be everything at once.

On the other hand, everyone is complaining because Microsoft did exactly that, an hybrid OS for desktop and tablets, and clearly it doesn't work well for tablet and desktops.

There is absolutely nothing that could point to the fact that Apple is planning this except that peoples tend to be paranoïd.

It's widely believed he is. However, Macworld won't officially say, and the moderators delete any comments that suggest his identity.

Gruber seems to get controlled leaks from Apple on occasion, usually to temper expectations when rumors get out of hand.

I would imagine though if they were using him to lower expectations he would have blogged about this or tweeted it or spent more time talking about it on his podcast. I got the feeling he was bemused by the comment and is genuinely in the dark about what will be shown tomorrow.

Why wouldn't it happen?

Windows 8 would have been fine if they had a way to disable tile view on the desktop version and never got rid of the start menu.

iOSX is perfectly find idea.
Mobile version boots into Springboard
Desktop version boots into Finder.app

BAM!!!!

Problem solved.

[Hint: Steve Jobs already gave us that road map -- OS X will morph into iOS. This just might be the start... a tidal wave, erasing the past.]

Well apparently Steve didn't get it from Waze because the rest of the tech sites are saying Google purchased them for 1.3 Billion.

So I guess speculation that it would be incorporated into Apple Maps just went down the drain (if the rumor is true).

I'm surprised Gruber didn't mention this...

Apple already out-does Google on UI design. From what it sounds like they will get their act together on the services end too. I think we will be pleased with what we see.

Apple outdoes Google on UI design? U serious?

I am surprised that the Apple TV has been left out of the rumor mill entirely. Wouldn't this be a perfect time to announce to developers new opportunities with Apple TV? It does run iOS, doesn't it?

It does.

Tim Cook on Apple TV last month:

"We've now sold over 13 million (Apple TVs). About half of those in the last year."

"I think many of us would agree that there's lots of things about the TV experience that can be better,"

"there is a grand vision."

And how does the UI of let's say OS X Pages translate on a touchscreen only device ? How does the UI of iOS Pages translate on a mouse/keyboard device ?

Does this mean windows on the iPhone ? Or always fullscreen apps on the iMac ? (or fixed size apps windows ?). Bigger button for everything on iPad and iMac ? How does the system manage having multiple apps opened at once. Make sense on a laptop with good specs and good battery life, that can even be plugged in if the need be, but on an iPhone or an iPad ? Etc. Etc.

In real use, keyboard and mouse/trackpad is a totally different beast than touchscreen with fingers. It need totally different UI and power management considerations. They are different usage that will need in the end different OS.

iPad is such a success because it not only OS X with a touchscreen keyboard above it.

ROFL.
$1.3 billion for a company that has no intellectual property (IE Patents), laughable.

Apple could spend less than $1 million and get the exact same functionality in their own app.

Swisher asked Tim if there was a Grand Vision for TV. What was he supposed to say. Well no Kara there isn't.

Steve isn't the one that brought up the Grand Vision point, it was Kara Swisher and Tim did nothing but answer her with a politically correct answer.

The tech rumor mill ran with it.

I think 7 divides into 2 iOS's

For Apple to keep many happy I suspect 2 versions of 7.
They need to make the mainstream comfortable with what they know and love in the OS's simplicity.

Yet the technical people need some tweak induced rush, so it may be possible we see another version on steroids.

Of course, I am not analyst so this could be complete fud.

Maybe they should have done that before releasing it? Just a thought.

Yes, why is that so astonishing? Apple is known for great user interfaces. Apple did a better YouTube app 5 years ago than Google did 6 months ago. Maps might be more accurate with Google, but the UI is not even close to being as nice as Apple's. What Google app has a better UI than its comparable Apple app? I honestly can't think of one.
