This just proves they are not just making changes for changes sake. Everything they seem to be doing is an improvement. Ive and the team are working hard to ensure iOS7 is as perfect as iOS6. And I love it

Much prefer the minimal look icons

I much prefer different colored bigger things that I can tell what it is at a super quick glance, not having to look carefully to read it to tell what it is. OS X sidebar was much easier to navigate with colored icons.

Why is it always the ones that are NOT even using the new thing that have the most negative things to say about it? ...try it (in the fall), you might like it (functionally, it is a big improvement over previous iOS's). :p

If you don't like it, though, you won't be able to downgrade. If you don't install it on your machine, you're just going to be left behind. You'll miss out on all of the cool things Apple is doing (function) just because their OS makes your eyes bleed (form).

This is the most UI changes I've seen across beta. Usually its just fixing bugs.

I wonder if Apple is doing this to stir up rumors and go back to its original plan?

I hope so!

...seems like they are trying to make things too familiar to iOS 6, like others have said, Steve Jobs wouldn't flinch at what people would have to say, he'd just do it his way, and then we end up loving it. He was a master at not reacting to people's reactions, because, we all react sometimes when something is different, but, then once we see the improvement, or get used to the differences, we end up liking it better in the long run.

I would like Messages, etc. to use the Nickname field.

E.g. When I save a favorite contact for my father or chat him, I would like his full name to be in the contact, but in the favorites list, just have "Dad" show up.

It should be immediately obvious that the b4 blue on white icons are infinitely more readable than the b5 icons with color background. I also have a hard time figuring out what the colors mean. In this specific area, it's step backward for the UI team.

How does the colour affect how readable the icons are? You read the text not the icon, so not sure what you mean there. As for what the colours mean, they are there to distinguish between the settings. Blue is for connectivity settings and green is for cellular related settings. Orange has always been used for Flight Mode.

It's really not that complicated.

The default display behavior has been this way since Beta 2-3. Should be in the Mail, Contacts, Calendar section now under 'Short Name'. Turn on 'Prefered Nickname'.

that simply isn't true, if your phone came with iOS 6 or older, you can downgrade back. If you buy a new iPhone in the fall, unless it is an older model, then you might be "stuck" with iOS 7.

Stop spitting this bolshevism crap. Majorities do not matter. Only the truth, right and wrong.
Good design and bad design. Im talking about user interface usability science.

Truth is singular. Its versions are mistruths.

Why should I ever care about what a majority of people thinks about anything?
I've always only been interested in undeniable facts of life, not stupid democracy.

Unfortunately for you, that's how the world works. Have fun with your "truths" while we enjoy our iOS7.

THIS is what Apple has been doing for the last year and a half? How about a new large screen cash cow Iphone 6? You made me go to Samsung from my Ip5!!

Really? Are you serious?! There is much more to this than just the interface which a massive amount of thought went into other than you 3 min look. No one made you do anything it was choice and you should be happy about it and move on. Your post is just pure FUD... Or maybe you're just a fool.

You'd make a great Dictator.

App Store updates and downloads no longer work for me.
I only get a blacked-out app icon that does nothing.
Me too. :(
 What a nightmare!

Who the hell knows how iOS 7 will look like now! The design is going in all directions! Isn't there at Apple a single Art Director with the balls to be taking charge in there?? Meanwhile we are left here to suffer the hits and miss of these, sometimes godawful, design ideas. I've had it!

LOL you know, you don't have to use the beta. Suffering, you clearly don't know the meaning.

I miss the lock unlock screen utilizing colors from your background pic, I thought that was a nice touch.

Then don't buy the new iPhone. No one is forcing you.

You don't know what the meaning of suffering is, do you? Not having food or shelter, being in war, disease, genocide.

You have money to spend on a $650 phone and can afford the phone bill. There are bigger things in the world than your opinion on design. Don't diminish the word suffering.

Yeah I don't get this. How are they not readable?

I'm not sure how, but Apple took the iOS personality and snuffed it. The UI is ultra-boring, just like bauhaus architecture: it looks great, but you wouldn't want to live in it.

The UI has moved from delightful to cool. Using it makes me want to throw my phone away. It's like Apple has sucked all the joy out of the UI and replaced it with futura.

But, but... The new look satisfies all the joyless high-brow design nazis out there like Gruber, and don't forget the teenage Android users/iOS haters with absolutely no taste!

I guess the rest of us can go **** ourselves. :)

Dude I can distinctly pinpoint the moment my heart sank on beta 1 and it was at the exact moment when I opened up the settings.

My mind said "oh oh... me not so happy with iOS7"

And its a matter of how the mind works, and your perception. The white-on-white is a different initial perception reaction compared to color-on-white icons.

It just wasn't as intuitive or pleasing. Its pretty obvious one is more organized on just a purely ocular level, never-mind the further details that come into play about how the mind works and perceives things.
