Oh I am not upgrading until I get confirmation that the usability mistakes that are widely available on the Internet do not ruin the experience for me or my children.

As for my mother she is the smartest person I know and a big time academic but that does not mean she deals easily with technology changes. Despite being pretty much a genius in her chosen field she did not know how to activate turn by turn directions in iOS 6. Life is like that - some people know alot about cars but not computers or vice versa - and that is why intuitive usability not flashiness is important. And why things like skeumorphism is just fine for 99% of the population.

Have her try Siri. It works for that too with iOS 6. No special commands needed.

They've had so little time to make iOS7 I hope they don't release and treat it to minor updates. It needs to be worked on flat out and possibly even made into a 7.5 before iOS8 is released. I don't think we really need yearly iOS updates all that much given it's such a short amount of time, but we need the teams releasing new features (obviously not marquee features) and bug fixes flat out until this is a stable as iOS6 is.

Has anyone realized that Apple needs to make guest accounts for iPads? If your kid wants to use your iPad you don't want them going through all of your stuff! This is such a basic thing to do that Apple needs to get on top of.

They want you to buy your kid their own iPad.

You're thinking like a customer.
....start thinking like an owner.

i love this time of the year, when most companies are getting ready to release their awesome phones and other products, it's really great.

No, I don't need everything dumbed down. You see, I understand that it is not all about me. I am disappointed because I see there being a backlash from regular people. Sure, I could use iOS 7 but I will not enjoy it as much because it looks boring like every other OS. If I wanted boring, abstract and hard to use, I'd have bought a windows phone. Even if you like the aesthetic of that design language, you have to look beyond yourself and consider what is best for the platform rather than you.

"Looks dated" is such an over used phrase by people who want change for the sake of change. Change for the sake of change is a waste of time and effort. If you want change, switch to another platform. Not everyone has that much money to waste.

Great, you have not had any problems but you are running a beta as either a developer or you have a friend who is one. I also am a registered iOS developer and like to try out new things but that does not mean that I want to see all of the cache of the iOS platform destroyed for the sake of newness. Go ask some regular people what they think. Start by letting someone who has never seen iOS 7 to try it out without any coaching and see how they feel about it. You might be surprised by what you find out. iOS 7 is not as user friendly and intuitive as iOS 6 was. I really don't care if you think it was dated. I care about the average joe user, not you.

Honestly, I am extremely disheartened by the actions of the current leadership of Apple. I am worried about the future of the iOS platform and the company as a whole.

You see, I am not a fanboy. I spend the majority of my time on the windows platform writing software.

I understand and respect your opinion fully, but at the same time what you don't understand is no one can pick up something new and just use it. Everything takes some sort of learning curve, Apple expects by now that most of its iOS users know the OS enough to pilot it without fail. If its that serious to you(not to sound cliche lol) just switch. I'm not being a jerk or anything, just a suggestion. No one is forcing you to use iOS 7, as someone who used iOS since the beginning iOS 7 is extremely more functional than iOS 6, I have a serious problem with not being to control basic settings from anywhere in the OS, control center fixed that. When I'm on the go, I don't have time to update my apps, auto download updates in the background can now do that. Once again I respect and understand what your trying to convey, but, to say that iOS 6 is more intuitive than iOS 7 isn't fair. Out of curiousity have you tried all the betas from 1 to 5?

i thought there were 5 BETAs...guess i was wrong. well it's a good thing they have set the public release for 10th sep, it's not that far away, i can wait

After using an iPhone 5, and seeing a very high amount of larger sized Android phones. I tell ya, I am really starting to want a larger device. Maybe a little smaller then the Samsung galaxy s4 but wider then the iPhone 5.

I have been seeing a trend of friends dumping iOS in favor of Android for this reason and the ability to customize. I really don't need the ability to change the theme, but why on earth doesn't iOS have an intents system yet ?! Maybe I want to post the picture I am viewing in something other then messages, facebook, twitter or email ? I want to use a "read later" service that ties in with Chrome since that is what I use on the desktop.

I really enjoy the security of the walled garden, but its a little bit too restrictive on interactive with other apps. Apple needs to loosen the death grip a bit.

iOS doesn't need to be #1, but it needs to be competitive and innovative.

Fair points... I agree with you.

On my Touch, beta 3 thru 5 have been fine... though reboot of 5 two days ago took a VERY long time after a crash (15 minutes)

My iPad on beta 3 could never find the OTA update for 5 (Went away for two weeks when the updates went live, and I think that may have messed it up.

I wanted to try it, because I've had several programs crash on the iPad. I suspect available memory issues, but haven't been able to verify.

That turned in to a marathon last night. Download the build. Try to restore from iTunes... 3000 error time after time. Page to review error had nothing compelling to tell me. Off to Google.

Ended up downloading XCode 5 beta 5, which then allowed me to restore thru iTunes... except, it hung up on the sync. Nearly no app sync (except for one darkened in a hung state that I could not delete), no music sync... background changed, and default programs were moved in to my folder structure, but that was it.

Ended up after a few hours of attempted syncs and reboot, that the iPad eventually hung on the Apple logo, like it had with the Touch, and remained that way for several minutes. (Too exhausted, I went to bed...)

Next morning, different story. Restored. Synced. Works.

May be a one off, but confidence in stability is a bit low right now. Certainly some polishing required, and devs to likely optimize apps over the coming months.

As an iPad 3 user, Apple is hopefully working overtime on iOS 7 to ensure its stability across all devices. I have high hopes that Beta 6 will have taken care a lot of existing issues. On Beta 5 iPad 3, it's still very unstable.

because it looked DATED. the UI and the 3.5 screen of 2007 makes it look like a toy in 2013.

To me, iOS 7 looks dated. But I guess everything old is new again, huh?

No, but I am complaining about the terrible look of the iPod app. Bundling all albums/songs by an Artist into one screen? Taking away the ability to shuffle all songs by an artist? Yeah yeah you can tell Siri to, "shuffle songs by System of a Down," but this shouldn't have to be the only way to accomplish this...

And has anyone else noticed pano-wallpaper panning get broken in Beta 5? Mine did. And that god-awful wait time for a reboot. *sigh*

I love iOS 7 don't get me wrong.

LOL, no worries, I didn't get you wrong, I can tell exactly where your heart it is with iOS7 . :D

All my friends are switching from android phones to the iPhone. I want to use my phone with one hand so the four-inch iPhone is perfect. And yes I have used both android and iPhone and I just prefer the iPhone.

Agreed. I've seen the same trend. Those that got sucked in at the store when buying their phones and went Android, are ALL going to the iPhone now that their contracts are up. Realizing that all those "things" that the Android does better than iPhone don't really make it a better phone when it doesn't work efficiently all the time.

I do wish I could share things easier though. I do miss that from my Android phone. :apple:

I suspect like most the gm build will be annoying as any ui tweaks are. Just moving spotlight is going to **** up more people that its worth and I don't see apple actually replacing what was there with anything new which is worrying.

Honestly believe most will like it but I know a lot of android guys will still laugh at its lack of live tiles widgets and stuff that is sorely missing. Things like the clock telling the right time etc are just basics from my view point at this stage in the mobile ui evolution.

Fingers crossed the final release is rock solid - you just know everyone will be gunning for ya, Apple.

Make us proud.

My take is that the public will not see everything that was shown in the developer betas. Also, expect less than minimalist artwork going out. Hell, I'd love to see a skins API on this version. Perhaps iOS 7.1

Nor will I miss the bundled adware apps nor the need for a security / virus scanner. You get what you pay for!

I am excited about this.. even though I will be leaving iphone to go to note 3.
I will keep my iphone 4s to play w/ ios 7.. Hopefully this is good..
