Seriously, what is the point of iOS 7? Why does Apple think consumers are clamoring for an Android-like UI? It's screen size and price that some consumers choose Android over iOS, not user interface. This whole thing is a giant head scratcher to me.

I predict the backlash against iOS 7 will be so intense that Cook will be gone before the end of the year. iOS 7 will go down as one of the all-time great unforced errors in the tech world.

Your mother is probably smarter than you give her credit for. She can probably spell "accustomed" correctly.

iOS 7 is much, much better than iOS 6. It's fast and — yes — intuitive.

Why do people complaining about the usability of iOS 7 always mention OTHER people having POSSIBLE issues with it? Never themselves, always those OTHER people who aren't smart enough to figure it out. Riiiiight.

Oh I am not upgrading until I get confirmation that the usability mistakes that are widely available on the Internet do not ruin the experience for me or my children.

As for my mother she is the smartest person I know and a big time academic but that does not mean she deals easily with technology changes. Despite being pretty much a genius in her chosen field she did not know how to activate turn by turn directions in iOS 6. Life is like that - some people know alot about cars but not computers or vice versa - and that is why intuitive usability not flashiness is important. And why things like skeumorphism is just fine for 99% of the population.

I predict that Apple will be forced to offer downgrade rights for the iPhone 5S back to iOS 6.x because I certainly will not be upgrading to an iPhone 5S unless if they either fix the usability issues with iOS 7 or offer a downgrade to iOS 6 on the new devices.

iOS 7 is Apple's Vista. A button is supposed to stand out of the background. Text is supposed to stand out from the background colour. Thin fonts are bad for accessibility.

They need to either offer a downgrade option of reverse course and an update that restores some of the iOS 1/2/3/4/5/6 look and feel or they will see the death of iOS.

I have been an iOS user since the beginning. iOS 7 is a visceral betrayal. The hipsters and bloggers loving it will not save iOS.

My next phone might be a dumb phone.

do you really need everything dumbed down? by now it should be clear where to click. like i dont even think about it anymore where to put my thumb on the screen. the OS could be in mandarin for all i care and id know how to navigate. thats whats so great about iOS, you dont even have to "know" it just works without thinking about it. i dont mind the texture but i can see how devs may not like it ^^

because it looked DATED. the UI and the 3.5 screen of 2007 makes it look like a toy in 2013.

i havent had an issue with iOS7b5 on my iPhone 5 at all. it feels like a finished OS to me. 3 used to crash a lot and some textures were off in german but its all good now

oh, duh, you were talking about music sliders, I went back to the lock screen, oops.

I like it better, the | w/color...we've got round dots for volume sliders, this differentiates the two at first glance.

Still preferred "Ultra Light" font, like you, and I still don't see why we can't choose the font...at least be able to choose the weight of the font, since the font they are using has more variances in weights to choose from than most anyway.

This is by far the most excited I've been for an OS, for like, ever. I can't wait to install it come September.

I disagree. I remember how exciting iOS 2 was when we finally got the App Store, Exchange, and VPN. Finally having all these apps was a big deal.

Funny. I showed iOS 7 to my mom, and she said it looked like a lego toy for girls. I think that opinion will be widely shared by non-hipster adults.

Looking fwd to test the GM release but will likely be a late adopter, one device at the time to stay in working order, nothing worse than "upgrading" just to find yourself with a buggy system.

I didn't get an iPhone until there was an app store.

I'm sorry you're life is otherwise so dull.

It will look cuter than iOS 6. That's the way Apple is going these days.

From what I've seen there isn't a lot of new functionality, which is very sad.

For the first time since I bought an iPhone years ago I'm looking at alternatives.

Yes, because being excited for this OS more than any other OS somehow correlates to how exciting or dull a person's life is.

excited? Why? Nothing really new.. It's just like a skin with some stuff that's long overdue...

ok?

As someone who has been using beta 1 through beta 5 on 3 different devices

iOS7 has a ways to go before GM imo

Unless they can square away the bugs by GM release, I honestly think a beta 7 or 8 may need to be in the works if they are sticking to 2 week iterations.

i know right. People complaining about the look of icons... it used to be worse.

remember the copy/paste debacle lol

This will probably be the first iPhone release I do not purchase and will end up waiting until iPhone 6. It's not that I don't have the funds, but I'm just not in the mood to pay retail on something just to have the latest. My iPhone 5 does a lot and unless there's something truly groundbreaking about iPhone 5S other than faster A chip, then I'll pass.

I rather use the money for a weekend getaway.

This has been hands down the least amount of excitement I have had for an OS. Both mobile and desktop.

Mavericks has a few small interesting features. Nothing earth shattering. Sure, I will upgrade but the upgrade feels even weaker then ML.

iOS 7 is just dull. Great features, lots of very needed features but man is the UI awful. Dull, boring and lifeless. For the first time ever, I have considered skipping an iOS upgrade. It is the first time ever that I hated an Apple interface this badly.

I have been an iOS user since iOS 2/iPhone 3G back in early 2009. And I am glad for this "visceral betrayal", it's much improved, beautiful design! ...The new design also will attract people new to iOS for sure! (I really don't think you've seen & used it, you've only seen pics, right?)

Despite your impending doom and gloom (which people have been saying for years, at every OS release, etc.), iOS doesn't need saving, it's doing quite well, but we will know when demand exceeds production abilities later this year, and Apple keeps selling and doing well as a company in the coming years.

iOS is also the most secure mobile OS anyone can get anywhere.

So, just go back to a non-smart phone...go get a cheap phone with a slide-out texting keyboard, yeah, we'll see how long that lasts.

At least learn how to spell correctly if you're going to insult someone for their preferences/tastes.

I wish for it to go badly so that it shakes Apple's complacency. I've left Apple for a reason - I'm looking forward to the day I have a reason to return.

Incidentally, I personally wouldn't refer to Apple as a 'person'. To me it's nothing more than a profit-making company. If you were referring to Apple employees, if Apple fails, the good ones will find other opportunities.

You already left so i don't even understand why you're still so emotionally invested. You might not agree with their direction or progress but others do. If what they're doing is wrong then they will fail eventually without your prayers. If not, then the opposite will happen. Apple is run by humans. Humans who want their efforts to succeed. The good ones might also actually enjoy working where they are and want their company to succeed as well.

I'm predicting a backlash against your post... how extremely pessimistic.

I'll personally give you an Android device just to make you a non-Apple user.

Just skip 6 and buy 6S, the "enhanced" version.

screw iOS! Apple sucks! I want an Android!

Can you send me an Android device too? I'll PM you my address

Agree somewhat

I agree with you somewhat.. What I've found after using it over time is that it is not so much the whole of iOS 7 i don't like its certain stock apps I don't like, for example calendar and iTunes player... so I've replaced them, the calendar with Fantastical and the player with Swhipy; which has an excellent equalizer on it. I've also replaced other stock apps and kept a few... once I did this, the other nice features of iOS 7 combine such as the short cuts rounded the whole experience out for me and I've gotten to where I actually like it to a degree. I would not if I was stuck with all the stock apps it would be boring I think... there are great features though, like when I use Call Bliss to send calls to voice mail I don't want to hear or take.. it used to be I had to have the screen locked to use it... iOS 7 has a feature now that lets the phone be unlocked so I don't have to... so its really a mixed bag. :D
