My Macbook Pro, iPhone 5, and Nexus 7 are all in-sync when it comes to mail, contacts, notes, and calendar.

As I'm sure they are, I'm in no doubt that it works perfectly for yourself. I'm saying for my needs and what I want, Apple's ecosystem works best.

Whatever they do, they should do it ASAP so we can either have a retina mini or a first generation non retina option at a lower price point.

you can already get the "high end" iPhone for no less than 1€ here so i do not think a "iPhone 5C" would make much sense for the european market on a contract because like i said the high end already gets subsidized to 1€ on a fairly decent monthly plan.

I don't think it makes any sense for Euro markets either, but it's not really targeted at Europe. It would be targeted at China, India, and perhaps Brazil.

They're not going to telegraph the retina mini's existence this early if they don't need to.

There will be two new iPad mini lines: Retina, and standard, with the price of the latter dropping to hurt other tablet lines.

See: "The New iPad" and iPad 2, and so on and so forth.

Hopefully this isn't true. iPad Mini nailed the size, nailed the design, nailed the battery life. But in comparison to the 4th-gen 10-inch iPad, the performance and display are a big notch below. Especially on the smaller screen, a denser screen would increase readability.

If they can cram the retina display into there and bump up to an A6, my credit card will be waiting. Otherwise, what's the point?

Thumbprint scanner would be the icing on the cake, although not a deal-breaker if absent.

Maybe 2012 iPad mini for $279, 2013 Retina iPad Mini for $329 :)

And again, I don't think this means ANYTHING. A device that runs only iOS7 doesn't need a @2x hook. That's a holdover from 5 & 6 to bridge between retina and non-retina devices.

iOS7 handles things differently. A device that's only iOS7 and later shouldn't need this hook.

That's not to say that Apple is definitely putting out a retina mini or a non-retina mini. It's just that this information means nothing either way.

So... stand down until you get something that means something.

Non-retina = FAILURE.

Just as I've predicted, the iPad mini is a FLOP whose main outcome has been to destroy the normal iPad's margins...nothing else.

Wait, how can it both be a flop AND destroy the iPad's margins (requiring mass sales)? I think you need to reevaluate your criteria for "flop".

so this year 2 products will be a non selling ........ipad mini 2(no retina) and iphone 5c

That would be the John Scully product lineup. We need simpler and fewer, not more and confusing.

Do you feel the same way about the iPad 2 remaining available as a "non retina" option? Or the method used since iPhone 3GS, where the previous year's model is available at a lower cost? How do you feel about there being more than one option available to you when purchasing, say, a MacBook Pro?

I wouldn't be surprised to see A6 in the non-retina mini in order keep it nice and speedy for another year at least.

That's a holdover from iOS 5 & 6.

I don't believe any new device introduced to run just 7 or later would require the @2 hook.

In other words, I don't think this information means what you think it means.

I thought the same. But iPad 2 is still supported so they'd need that hook still.

I really wanted to buy an iPad mini and its lack of retina display was the only thing that was holding me back....
I've tried it at the store and loved everything but the fact that the pixels were noticeable.
I guess their thought process is that most people don't replace their iPads every year (unlike their iPhones) so what's the point of spending to much energy on anything more than a very basic upgrade, let's postpone the retina for another year.

The software is subjective. When it comes to mobile, Android wins hands down IMO.
The first two screens on my iPhone have apps that aren't available (or are dumbed down) on Android. You can go ahead and try to tell me that there are other alternatives to Omnifocus or 1Password on Android, but that's not enough to switch platforms. I do more with my phone than cut the rope and facebook.

The iPad mini is a flop... Yet millions have been sold. Great logic!
So what if it's destroying the sales of the bigger iPad - it's still an Apple product which is a gateway to other, higher margin, products, so Apple are still laughing to the bank.

This is obviously a result of having Tim Cook as a CEO. What a joke that guy is.

Well, considering Steve Jobs was the guy who picked Tim to be CEO, I think that he deserves a little more than 2 years to prove himself. Jobs was not a moron. He wouldn't leave the company he built to some Joe Schmoe to screw it up. He learned that lesson with Sculley.
