why don't you read the post i was originally responding to about how the poster stated that "widgets are dumb and that info they show are limited".. before spewing out snarky comments. i simply responded with a counter and an example of why that statement is false.

some of you just shoot down the idea of having widgets because it's not in iOS.. so it can't be any good if Apple hasn't implemented it yet right? but if and once they do.. you all would be saying things differently.

I did read the previous post ... and I agree with the poster you were responding to.
It's not that I'm being snarky, just realistic.

Time is the most precious commodity we have, and so many people waste their time with frivolous crap, and then complain about a 1/10th of a second to open an app.... imho

you contradict yourself.. if you believe that "time is the most precious commodity", then wouldn't you want something to make using your phone more convenient and quicker to use?

it surely wouldn't hurt to have a feature like widgets or Google Now in iOS, with a couple of info right away with one press of a button.. just because your usage is not like others, doesn't make it "frivolous crap". i wouldn't doubt that iOS users constantly on the go, traveling, or just plain like multi-tasking won't complain about having this sort of feature/addition.

and if you don't like it.. then don't use it.. just because it's there, doesn't mean you can no longer use your phone (open up apps one by one by one...) the old fashioned way anymore.

Some of the ideas are good but the widgets concept is about as dumb as it is on Android. Why not just open the app and get the full deal rather than the limited info that comes with widgets? The apps on iOS open blazing fast. It's not like opening Photoshop or something on a slow spinning hard disk.

Heck, I never use widgets even on my old slow Mac. And Apple has had widgets on Mac since forever it seems. I'm pretty sure they know full well whether people on average find them useful or not. My guess is not really.

The widget page in Mission Control rendered widgets worthless. I used Tinker Tool to revert widgets to what they were before. I like the calendar widget... Most of the others are useless.

I like the widget concept shown in the article. If they're instant access and don't involve leaving whatever you're doing right now, that's amazing.

I don't get this widget concept at all. So instead of full screen it only takes up 25% of the screen but still renders the rest of the phone useless whie that widget is up?

the idea is to have a few widgets on a screen to give you a glance at info, but in my experience it rarely works. most of the widgets i see usually have out of date info or you end up clicking on it anyway to bring up the app.

push notifications on the lock screen the way IOS does it is my fave so far

The only thing that bugs me about the double tapping of the app icon is that single tapping them to open the app would be laggy. Mostly because the OS would have to wait a split second to see if an additional press is going to occur. Other than that, pretty neat concept. Too bad that's all it's going to be though.

It's official. This comment is everywhere. It's the new "Safari is snappier" and "Steve Jobs wouldn't have..."

A quick forum search showed that this comment is happening almost once a day now.

Well... we haven't seen a product release in almost a quarter and a half.

If that tells you anything,

I love it, especially the quick controls in app.

Swiping left to get to controls when double tapping home is ridiculous with taht much screen real-estate. stop hiding controls!

apple needs to stop giving just adding a bunch of retarded features and change the OS! i'm so tired of iOS a massive overhaul like this would be amazing

The majority of lock-screen features proposed simply aren't going to happen. Too many security flaws would exist - the most immediate being that if you lost your iPhone and wanted to track it (with 'Find my iPhone'), a stranger could put the phone into Airplane Mode and prevent any kind of data or network to be exchanged.

Some of the elements were good, but I'm not so sure about some of the design choices and the double tapping to "widget" an app. As far as Apple's current DNA is concerned, Jony will likely brush (aluminum? ha.) some of that away. Double tapping on apps that traditionally open quickly off a single press is also a usability nightmare. IMO.

Yeah, if you have to double tap a touch screen device, you're doing it wrong.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the "double tap to open widget" idea? This was in another iOS 7 concept video from a while ago. With how iOS is currently, apps open immediately when you touch them once. If they implemented the double-tap idea, there would have to be a delay in the app opening when you touch it, just like how there's a short delay when you press the home button once. I don't know if any of that makes sense, but it is a serious flaw with the double-tap idea.

This is all really poor, ugly and ripped off of lots of jailbreak tweaks I already have except for widget that are a stupid idea.

Of course Apple is a bit smarter than you all easily satisfied fanboys and will do a more major change to the UI.

yeah having certain preference apps in a home screen or widget would be nice instead of navigating through an array of preferences.
some of the layout in preferences/settings are a bit scattered or haphazard.
For example a iOS System Pref/Settings folder with quick access to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Mail set-up, etc -- or specific apps for pairing and seeing whats paired with wifi, bluetooth, etc on the home screen instead of cluttering up the top menu bar.
Or at the very least a swipe down like notifications that shows your connections with bluetooth, wifi, and other things that exist on the menu bar, etc.

This idea looks clean and smooth. a few more tweaks and a more OS feel to it will make it a huge upgrade and be more productive IMO.

Some of that would be nice to have for sure, in some respect. Especially the quicker availability of access to changing certain features (bluetooth, airplane mode, etc). I am hoping they do something more with the geofencing concept that they introduced with Reminders. Why can't my phone remember that when I get to the office, it should turn off the ringer and wi-fi and when I leave, turn back on. They've sort of started down that path with the auto night silencing.... I suspect all those things are ways to see what the real world effects of those types of changes are so that they can better address the big picture without making a bunch of people cry about it too much.

Pretty much. "Here's something totally made up by some random guy that has no influence on what Apple is already doing!"

My thoughts exactly. If they wanted to, they could run dozens of articles just like this one, and we still would know nothing about Apple's plans.

BTW, my prediction is that Apple will not do widgets.

Can we add another column in next generation of iPhone and make it wider?

Nope. Apple did extensive research to determine the optimal screen size. Making it any other size would ruin the User Experience. That's why those Android phones are not selling very well.

These issues? Since when not having widgets an issue?

I will wait and see what iOS 7 brings, but I will not be disapointed without widgets.

My guess is that if nothing whatsoever was changed, you still would not be disappointed. Am I right?
