So what your saying is have the phone do the reverse of what the people taking the video are doing to you? Have HUGE black bars on the top and bottom of the phone screen while shooting the video and a tiny 16:9 image showing while you shoot video?
Not saying that isn't actually a good idea...maybe it would force those people to turn the phone sideways to see what they are recording.
I'm also wondering if some people shoot in a vertical mode on purpose, like when they can't fit what they want to see in the image (vertically) because they are too close to the subject?
It would only be displayed with bars above and below, but the recording itself would still be in 1080p, so it would make full use of the whole screen on a monitor or TV when displayed later.
And I do believe that you are correct that most hold their phone in a portrait orientation in order to better fit in the subject (which is silly, because the resulting video only makes use of a small fraction of the monitor it will be viewed on later), but it is also more comfortable than holding a phone in landscape, so this suggestion would address two issues at once.
Nothing ever is confirmed until it's announced with Apple. I think it's pretty clear from reliable sources that things are changing but, until we see the software, we don't really know the details.
I wish Apple would get away from everything being so app centric i.e., any time you want information you have to go in and out of apps to get it. And the home screen needs to be rows and rows of apps, or apps in folders. I have ~100 apps on my iPhone but the number I use on a regular basis is probably a half dozen or so. I'd love it if the home screen only showed the 4-5 apps I use most often and the rest were tucked away on another screen or something and I could sort them in different ways (e.g. Alphabetically, most/least frequently used, size, etc.).
Also I'd love it if I could get more actionable or contextual information displayed to me, rather than me having to find it. For instance, getting a message that traffic is bad so you might want to leave early to/from work. Or if there's an accident or bad weather that might cause delays. I think there's so much more Apple could do here and a lot of places where Forstall dropped the ball.

I hate seeing beautiful mockups like these and then the actual is nothing like it. This would be awesome, nice usage of the screen.
I'd rather not use Google services if I don't have to.

I can't imagine it would be a big battery drain if it rules like check to refresh once every hour. It would definitely affect the battery but I don't think it would be show-stopper.
Windows Phone 8 does this. You can have an app takeover the lockscreen (ex. CNN can show a top story every hour).
I think there's a lot Apple could do here. I'll be disappointed if the lock screen is the same but just looses the gloss.
Apple could make a boatload of money if they introduced themes and sold them through the App Store...............

I didn't know iOS 7 features had already been announced. Are you talking about a concept idea you hope is in iOS 7?
This is fantastic.
Same with the other two "flattened" apps on the previous page. Clean, pretty, and modern. If they beef up the functionality to match, Apple would have a winner on their hands. Here's hoping that these mockups are close to the real deal!
I prefer that lock screen, except the camera icon on it... lol But the rest is lovely, but what about music controls and such that are on the current one, I think those should be gestured and also Passcode lock should become Facial Unlock and also gesture lock
Freaking AirPlay Direct!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would KILLL for presentations w/ Apple TV. An AppleTV in every classroom/boardroom!!!!!

iCloud "Click to call" where I can click on a contact in Addressbook on my desktop and it would call them via my iPhone.
If we are going major GUI overhaul then something along the lines of the new Yahoo! weather App.

Return of voice commands in terms of local actions being processed on the device via Siri.

Apple needs to look how bad and boring the Google apps are and, you know, avoid them. :\
To each his own. I think the Google apps are far better looking than Apple's. And Google's apps are far from bad. Their initial offerings on iOS were of poor quality, but in the last year, the quality of their apps has been remarkable.
If thats boring then the current calendar UI must also be boring. I don't get how a utility app can be boring, the UI should be out of the way and let you do what you want as fast as possible. Faux leather and paper are so distracting and look ugly IMO.
