Overall, I like iOS 7 but hate the following two things about it:

1) Opening a folder on the iPad only displays 9 apps at any one time. This is where graphical eye candy ended up trumping common sense. Was it really that important to maintain visual consistency when you "zoom in" on the folder?!

2) Music controls are terribly placed (too many of them are bunched closely together on the iPhone screen).

Jony needs to fix these ASAP!:D

i don't hate iOS 7. i think the new features are great. i like the new 'expose'/mission control better.

there are 2 things i dislike about iOS 7.

the aesthetic design. i i don't mind the flatter icons, i don't ever want to see my Mac OS follow that design though. but mostly i don't like tapping 'words' i prefer the buttons, and the philosophy of iOS 6.

i don't like the gesture for control center. i would of much preferred a reliable gesture, like the mission control one. 4 fingers for mission control, 3 for control center.

i would like to downgrade my iPad back to iOS 6. unfortunately i became part of the iOS 7 demographic, but i was forced. i found a way to downgrade to iOS 6 on google, and i was going to do it the next day. the reason why i upgraded to iOS 7, is because it was the only way to completely clean my iPad from this 'Other storage' bs that was taking up Gigabytes of my space. unfortunately the next day apple stopped signing the iOS 6 OS so i was screwed and left on iOS 7.

pity. wish i looked into my 'other storage' issue earlier.

I loath iOS 7
Sure, iOS 6 needed some pizzaz, but iOS 7 UI is just garbage! Steve would fire Tim if he could!
Switching to Android asap.

you're going to switch to the alternative that most resembles what you hate?

It's just matter of being open-minded and willing to learn the differences.

How does that make it a good OS?

The problem most people I talk to about iOS 7 have (and it was same with Maps in iOS 6.0) is that Apple has taken something that worked perfectly well for them, and replaced it with something that either works exactly the same or doesn't work as well, without any sort of benefit in return.

A new colour scheme isn't really a reason to upgrade. I can't think of a specific feature that would be universally loved to justify the upgrade to someone who isn't that fussed about upgrading on day one.

People who make apps care quite a bit. Quick and far reaching adoption means that one can drop support for older OSes sooner.

Adoption percentages don't really make that much of a difference in this area. If you plan to support older devices (and many developers clearly do - either iOS 5 for the original iPad or iOS 6 for the iPhone 3GS) you have to do the same amount of work no matter what percentage of users are on the older OS releases.

I think this figure is high, the true figure is probably around 66-65 % of devices.

I personally know 6 people that will not upgrade to ios7 and I know several others that did and do not like it. There are still a lot of people not upgrading.

So I think 73% is a bit high.

I really like the direction of iOS 7 ... but it still needs a bit of work. Hoping they really take the time to refine the UI in iOS 8.

Still on 6

iPad2 used by my wife. She likes what she has. Everything she uses works. No reason to open that Can O' Worms.
iPod 4th Gen won't run it.

I played with a nephew's iPhone with 7 on it. Seemed OK. New design didn't really bother me. I was able to figure out fairly quickly where things were and how to do things.

So I'll get it with my 5th Gen iPad.

Perhaps Space Is An Issue

I have some friends who have installed 7 and love it (as do I), but others are not able to due to the size of the download. Requiring more than 2 GB to download and install can be significant when you're on an 8 GB iPhone/iPad.

Who?

Unknown advertising leaches post story based on dodgy statistics gathered in some unknown fashion in order to advertise themselves. Film at 11.

Didn't we just have stories of record adoption rates?

well gee, no ios 7 support for ipod touch 4/3gs/ipad 1, OBVIOUSLY adoption rate is lower.

I like skewmorphism!

Have great respect for Ivy but his personal feud should not have 'killed' skewmorphism, it should have become a skin option, as someone else here suggested.
Don't want to upgrade because I don't need the new features and do not want to lose that rich, detailed texture.
Johnny, your new look is "cartoonish' to me, I am not a millennial....

I bet a lot of those people are waiting for 7.0.3. The iMessage problem didn't help either.

Maybe some user is afraid to update his (older) device and find out that it becomes a brick. (They should read all "mine works perfectly" posts on MacRumors:D)
Add users that may not like new look and feel. Yes, they exist. And they have the right to think "different".
Add people just afraid of changes. They exist too.
This 27% will slowly decrease naturally
I would be more afraid of a 100% adoption rate in 3 months, I like to think that we are not all the same (maybe Apple would like something like that)

I hesitated on my iPhone 4. User reports vary wildly -- some folks claim iOS 7 runs just fine, others complain that it slowed the phone down to the point of being unusable. So I'm holding off. Maybe I'll just get a new 5S and then it will be a moot point.
I installed it on my 4. I had no issues. I have a 5S now. Yesterday, I accidentally picked up the 4 when I was walking out the door. I was frustrated it had no service. It didn't notice any issues on the 4. It functioned so much like it does on the 5S that it took me half an hour to realize I had the wrong phone! I was going to keep it around to use on my Sound Dock, but I may sell it now, since it's so similar to the 5S that it's confusing. It doesn't help that the cases I have on them are very similar. :)

Apple can spin anything

Hm, contradictory reports.
I think we'll know a lot more next week.
If iOS 7 adoption rates are higher than iOS 6, Apple will surely brag about it.
If iOS 7 adoption rates are lower than iOS 6, Apple probably won't mention it.
One way or another we'll pretty much know.

*slide appears with a big 73 on it*

Tim: "Within just a few weeks since we released it, an incredible seventy three percent have already upgraded, with many more to come. This is amazing. We're very excited for the way users have been embracing iOS 7."

*audience applauses and cheers*

Besides cases, when has Apple ever been a skinning company? They've spent their whole lifespan trying to create one unified experience. I sound like a drone when saying this but it's time to adapt with the changes. Getting rid of the bloated UI on the screen and taking advantage of the larger screen size and bigger pixel density really is a good change.

I like it, and enjoy the change. iPhone 5s & iPhone 4 running without issue.

Granted, others opinions will differ, & complainers will always be squeaker wheels. Goodbye Skeuomorphic design, and I welcome the quick access to controls, more useful folders with multiple pages, and cleaned up design.

This article is just wrong. The adoption rate for iOS7 is the highest of any iOS to date including iOS6.

All the people I know that have migrated (about 20) love it.
It's just matter of being open-minded and willing to learn the differences.
It has enough features to make it worth upgrading, the little glitches are minimal annoyances. Overall, it's a great OS.

It's funny, once I took that same approach with Windows 8 on my laptop, all those annoyances went away. It seriously took me 20 minutes to learn the majority of user "annoyances" and how they worked in Windows 8. My point being, people are lazy and confuse "annoyances" with their inability to take a few minutes to learn something new.
