What did they do to iOS. :(

If I wanted this I'd get android. Getting back to beautiful iOS6.

1. It's still an early developer preview.
2. That's pretty much standard - the lowest-end officially supported device almost always crawls on the latest OS, and is massively limited, to boot. (See iOS 3 on original iPhone, iOS 4 on iPhone 3G, iOS 5 on original iPad, iOS 6 on iPhone 3GS.)

Does snyone know when Apple will Eventually release the Beta 2 version? 2-3 weeks from inital?

I tried 7 on my ip4 but removed for now, I liked but too slow and buggy to use at present.

Thanks!

Wow what a difference. Perhaps that'll change as the betas move on. The Dock looks pretty bad... Control Centre, I can accept that, I guess. So the transparency is there, but not the translucency. Perhaps if the CC background where whiter or more of a black with a bit more transparency it would look better...

Is the dock transparent? I can't really tell here. Looks like it's just a gray strip.

It's just as transparent as control centre, which means just barely. I really hope we eventually get translucency, as it would make the thing look a lot better. In the meantime, if you use a black wallpaper it sort of reminds me of a modern take on the original iOS.

Cheers

Ah I see. Hmmm well, one can only hope for translucency, or at least a better implementation than this.

I think I might just have to finally upgrade my iPhone this year... but if not, meh, I guess as long as it doesn't run any slower than iOS 6 (in the final build) then I might update my 4 to iOS 7. Having CC is pretty much worth it to me.

That's like complaining a 3 years old PC can't run Crysis 3 at 60fps.

Nobody forces anyone to upgrade. There are people today using the 3g or even older phones and are happy. Software engineers can do great optimization work, but they can't make miracles. Old hardware will always have limitations when running newer software.

Plus in the first beta, engineers will concentrate on current and unannounced devices instead of older ones. Expect the final version to run smoother on the 4 than the beta. But don't keep your expectations too high. When supporting older hardware many cosmetic features get cut in order to provide a good user experience.

Even iphone 2g on 3.1.3 and iphone 3g on 4.2.1 aren't that laggy and slow. They disabled most of the animations on iphone 4, and don't give me the " it s a beta" cause ios 6 beta 1 was super smooth and fast.

And Windows 95 ran great on the hardware from its generation. But try and install Windows 7 or 8 on the same hardware and see how it goes. Same logic. "It ran fine with Win95 so it should be fine with Win8" :)

I'm running it on my 4. It works well but does lag a bit. I'm not expecting apple to add all the visual effects. I do think they will fix the transparency issue.

I think getting the iOS 7 beta done was rushed for the convention. Primary focus was the 5 and then the 4s and then finally the 4. The 4 doesn't even have a properly working GPS right now. By this fall ios7 on the 4 will be a lot smoother and look better to boot IMO.

Care to back up your claim?

iPhone 3GS Soc: 600Mhz Arm Cortex A8 Samsung S5PC100,

GPU: PowerVR SGX535

iPhone 4 Soc: 800Mhz ARM Cortex A8 Apple A4 manufactured by Samsung. Just a slightly more power efficient version of what was in the 3GS clocked 200Mhz faster with the name A4 slapped on.

GPU: PowerVR SGX535

That 200Mhz increase is actually an increase of 33%. That means 33% more cycles per second. In fact - the iPhone 4's CPU can dynamically clock up to 1Ghz, which is 67% more cycles per second.

Not only that, but I would definitely expect there to be architecture tweaks between those devices that would make the A4 more suited to its work.

As for the GPU, we don't know the exact specifications. When it comes to SoC GPUs, you don't just buy off-the-shelf parts and plod them in to a chip. The reference designs are often tweaked for your individual use-cases; it's possible that Apple is using a part with more bandwidth or faster memory or whatever.

Don't just write the iPhone 4 off. It is capable of quite a lot.

As for iOS 7, even the simulator version (which is always much faster than a real device) lags a lot on my rMBP. There are a number of reasons why that could be - from unoptimised code to debugging symbols being left in. Things will definitely improve between now and the GM.

I'll concede to the point about the processors but according to tear downs of both devices, they have the same GPU. Likely because their SoC's are still similar despite the clock differences.

I agree - and hope we are right, lol. I now have an iP4, but I was running iOS 6 on a 3GS and even then there was very little lag in sending iMessage with large photos, inserting attachments, switching windows, lag time etc. The main thing was just the load time on apps, which makes sense.

They both have the same GPU and with the iPhone 4 that same GPU is pushing more pixels. Therefore, thats why we see lots of lags with graphics. For example, typing worked fine for me on iOS6 but things like the unlock animation and notification banners were laggy

This is why the 3Gs consistently beat out the iPhone 4 in graphical benchmarks and graphic intensive games. The 4's GPU was too underpowered and outdated to really drive the screen to its fullest. It really showed this even more with the iPad 1. An issue that wasn't corrected until the A5. The underpowered GPU is very likely why Apple decided to limit the eye candy in iOS 7. Much like how it limited the eye candy in non-CoreImage capable machines running Tiger and Leopard.

You try using the latest Android software on a 3 YEAR OLD Android handset and we can discuss this as much of the same.

Time to upgrade bud. ;)

Damn!!! I can see a wallpaper though folders in the picture with city wallpaper, but the dock is totally grey!!!(( Why Apple can't make the same with the dock which they have already done with folders!?! If they do it, I'll be happy. By the way, Control Center is also not totally grey, which is great. Please, Apple, fix the dock! It is really ugly!

Multitasking and many other functions work well on iPhone 4 iOS7.
It's still usable, but too many bugs.
I am waiting for the next version of beta in few weeks.
