They won't launch the new OS after only a month in beta.

Here's what I see happening:
June WWDC: iOS 7 Previewed
September: iPhone 5S Launches with iOS 7
October: iPad Mini 2 Introduced; iPad 5 introduced

Yup', I'm with you on that one. Although there still is a spot right before the christmas holiday. Smart Watch? Doubt it. TV? More than unlikely. Refreshed MacBook Air? More than possible

Mistakes were made. The difference is that A players can admit that mistake, correct it, and move on.

Think about Browett. They sacked him in the lead up to the holidays. And then did not replace him!

In effect, Apple was saying "You're doing so much damage at Apple retail that we're better off going into the busiest time of the whole year WITHOUT anyone leading that ship, than we are keeping you!"

----------

Ive's new idea of 'total UI revamp'

Change everything to silver, aluminium, thin and flat.

Having the software match the hardware in essence?

Well, it would have the advantage of having never been tried.

I would like the option to have one icon for app folders, instead of the way they look now...a bunch of tiny icons in one icon...looks messy. I know what's in there because I created the folder, and if I can't find it I'll just use spotlight.

well, we will see.

while it may look different visually, i think ios will be as restrictive as it is today.

Looks like Sir Ive has done a really good job... :D
Hope it's really great, as this was one of the best news for the Apple side in monthes. :D

What I hope to see in iOS 7 is a faster OS feature rich, that basically will stop all those android fans from blabbering about their feature rich operating system.

NOTHING will stop hard core Android fans from blabbering.

Android vs iOS is a religion. Hard core Android fans will cling to any piece of Android that they perceive is better, regardless of the truth. (Same goes for Hard Core iOS fans - this is a religion on both sides)

You have to be happy with what you have, and know for YOU that it's best. This is why I don't get all the arguments. One is not clearly the best, and one is not clearly the worst. There are many use cases that support each one winning an argument.

be glad to wait

Not that I really dwell on the software beyond ease of use.

As long as the software continues to be easy to use for any Apple product, I agree, take the time to release software that works without bugs/glitches etc. and I'll be glad to wait.

Nope, unless you want mediocre or inexperienced ones.

^This makes no sense. The world has run out of highly skilled software people because Apple already has them all?

If Apple has to pull people off another project, then that indicates an employee shortage overall. Hiring a few more engineers so that even under a heavy workload with tight deadlines, no one gets pulled off a project would seem prudent, especially since this isn't the first or only time it's happened.

Would it be totally out of line for Tim Cook to pull a "One more thing"? He has never said those words, as they were iconically Steve Jobs. I just imagine that if they wanted to release an iWatch, while at the same time reduce the chance of negativity surrounding tradtional "S" upgrades, this would be the way to do it. After showing a preview of iOS7, then leading into the iPhone 5S (S for security? / biometric scanner), Tim Cook could easily do a "One more thing" and use the iWatch as the a ha moment needed to round out the entire launch on an overly positive note. People would see a software and hardware interation, as well as a new hardware launch. The way they all tie together and the integration of a possible biometric scanner is an exciting prospect. IMO.

I'd gladly pay for a different keyboard if Apple would let me...

Also, your name is listed on the left. There is no reason to sign it at the bottom.

-AMMONKAPOW

It's more likely that they'd improve their keyboard than allow you to replace it.

Passbook seems like an interim solution ( and not very good one ) for the lack of NFC and infrastructure. Really, I can't see Passbook surviving for more than 2 or 3 years in to the future.

It has very poor support in the States and worse if you live elsewhere.

If your a Star Bucks drinkers I suppose you might find it useful.

iOS is behind so OSX devs are drafted - it sucks but there's more money in iOS than OSX ( sadly ).

^Above - the girl in the black dress, centre, is smoking :D

And I've been saying all this time passbook is garbage and guess what? Apple thinks so too

Passbook isn't garbage. It's useless without something to link it to outside transaction systems, RFID, NFC, whatever.

I really see no need to an entire UI refresh update. I could care less about the (new) color schemes, sounds, ways to navigate etc.

What's killing me are all the missing features....basic features...now 5+ years later still missing. *Some* of the missing features are (and I submitted them to Apple eons ago as surely did other people):

-inability to keep photos/videos from being deleted. There should be a switch in Settings do disable the delete/trashcan function. This would help when kids grab your phone or a malicious attack.

-can't send emails with over 4MB of attachments. What year is it now? Oh yea, 2013 where Gmail and Yahoo and Hotmail have 25MB limits while most ISPs have 10-20MB limits. Ridiculous, Apple.

-can't get the videos off the iPhone...well, not via iTunes anyway. Terrible! I have to hook it up TO A COMPUTER. Or I can buy an App that will *wirelessly* send them to another iOS device or computer.

-videos recorded at the wonderful hi-def on the iPhone get pushed to cruddy quality when pushed to Youtube or an email attachment. Um....why?!!? It's 2013...a 50MB video file is nothing. And regardless if it's WIFI or cell carrier, it's my data plan...let me worry about my data usage. So all these 1080 vids are essentially stuck on my camera at full quality. Therefore, WHAT'S THE POINT of having 1080 if I can't show it 1080 somewhere else?!

-video clips sent via email are limited to 40 seconds if I remember correctly. Lovely.

-browser still has major caching problems. Why does it do a full refresh of the page when I come back to my phone 2 minutes later?

-when a big web page is taking awhile to load, I want to open a new tab and go somewhere else while the other tab loads. Impossible on the iPhone...as soon as move away from the tab, the loading stops.

-still tied to iTunes...talk about lock-in

-Can only sync wirelessly with iTunes if the phone is plugged into the electrical outlet...um....why?!

-The only way to see just the videos is to go through the Camera app, click on the little left bottom corner icon, then select Videos. Why the heck can't I just go to Photos and see the same VIDEOS tab at the top?! It has been this way for YEARS! So I need to go through all these extra finger clicks to get there.

-No parental controls for websites...Apple, in their let's-censor-everything-in-App-Store can't even provide a simple black-list of 10,000 websites my kids can't visit. Or a password to access Safari.

-No parental controls for youtube...something should be available here. What about a password to access Youtube?

-Only shows last ~10 days worth of calls...WHAAAT?!

-Safari History isn't so great...stuff is always missing from 3-4 days ago. And the type-ahead feature of the URL bar is nice, but again, 3-4 days later the history. It should be more like 30-60 days or have a user setting.

-Email attachments (especially Office and PDF) cannot be saved to my iPhone...I am forced to always go back to the email. That's about as unhandy as can be.

Most of the above problems can easily be in the Settings area of the phone or each built-in app. But no...rather than give us new and more features, Apple wants to just re-paint the house.

Does this Mean OS X.9 Delayed till 2014?

Actually I think the OS should be a every other year thing rather than a yearly major update. Gives use little time to get used to one OS then all of a sudden a new one comes out or like some of use wait till most of the bugs are worked out (ie Almost a year) before we upgrade then all of a sudden oh in a month or two a new OS is Out. the iOS maybe a yearly update but the Mac OS should be at least every other year like it used to be - the new short term OSs are so rushed and not really ready for the public on launch day. I rather wait a year for a more stable OS then one that is rushed and then you have all kinds of bugs like the battery issues, issues on the wifi of computers that are suppose to be compatible with the OS, other bugs ect

I wish history would repeat itself. Leopard was the biggest OS X revolution, as well as iphone for a post pc device. I fear however that both with iOS 7 and OS X 10.9, we are going downhill. the current iPad and Macintosh may be my last devices from Apple

"Many people happy"....that can be 40 people. That is many to me. A few engineer nerds that understand nothing about art. what about the millions unhappy with he UI change?

I feel the same way.

so it's all about taste.

but whilst changing look & feel leads to tons of installable schemes, themes, handcrafted icon sets and misleading instructions on "how do I use this"... Apple decided not to go this way... I really appreciate this!

so all Apple apps look and feel skeomorphic and more or less elegant and simple...

and indeed - Jony Ive and Steve understood very well on how to simplify things. If Jony now focuses more on the operating system as a design concept as well, mabye a "flat" design gets into iOS7 (http://www.iphonemania.nl/2013/03/jonathan-ive-pleit-voor-een-vernieuwd-plat-ontwerp-ios-7/)

I'm looking forward to concepts like these... http://itechnow.com/another-ios-7-concept-videos/

This is what happens when you get the foundations of an OS so right, right out of the gate - incremental updates get "stale" over time and the next generation of 13 year olds want to rip the whole thing out and give it a WP8 Metro makeover... because it's edgy.

Couldn't they disable the switch?

-can't send emails with over 4MB of attachments. What year is it now? Oh yea, 2013 where Gmail and Yahoo and Hotmail have 25MB limits while most ISPs have 10-20MB limits. Ridiculous, Apple.
Use the Gmail App?

-can't get the videos off the iPhone...well, not via iTunes anyway. Terrible! I have to hook it up TO A COMPUTER. Or I can buy an App that will *wirelessly* send them to another iOS device or computer.
What? How else would you get videos off?

-videos recorded at the wonderful hi-def on the iPhone get pushed to cruddy quality when pushed to Youtube or an email attachment. Um....why?!!? It's 2013...a 50MB video file is nothing. On cellular, that's your carrier's fault. On email, that's your email client's fault. Try Dropbox.

-video clips sent via email are limited to 40 seconds if I remember correctly. Lovely.
Not completely sure, but I think that's false.

-browser still has major caching problems. Why does it do a full refresh of the page when I come back to my phone 2 minutes later?
What phone do you have? I don't experience this issue with an iPhone 5.

-when a big web page is taking awhile to load, I want to open a new tab and go somewhere else while the other tab loads. Impossible on the iPhone...as soon as move away from the tab, the loading stops.
This is false.

-still tied to iTunes...talk about lock-in
Only place this bothers me is photos.

-Can only sync wirelessly with iTunes if the phone is plugged into the electrical outlet...um....why?!
This is false. You can sync wirelessly without being plugged in to anything.

There's a videos app....Do you have an iPhone?

-No parental controls for websites...Apple, in their let's-censor-everything-in-App-Store can't even provide a simple black-list of 10,000 websites my kids can't visit. Or a password to access Safari.
Set a password on your phone.

Set a password for your phone.

-Only shows last ~10 days worth of calls...WHAAAT?!
Seriously?

-Safari History isn't so great...stuff is always missing from 3-4 days ago. And the type-ahead feature of the URL bar is nice, but again, 3-4 days later the history. It should be more like 30-60 days or have a user setting.
My history seems to go pretty far back.

-Email attachments (especially Office and PDF) cannot be saved to my iPhone...I am forced to always go back to the email. That's about as unhandy as can be.
Certain apps let you save these links. I would like it if you didn't have to use any apps but, for the time being, you could use those apps.

Most of the above problems can easily be in the Settings area of the phone or each built-in app. But no...rather than give us new and more features, Apple wants to just re-paint the house.
Ive's job is UI. Not features.
