I'm soooooo excited for this. I really can't wait. Whether it's a major overhaul or not... If the feel of the OS is just as good as the feel of the hardware, it will be absolutely amazing.

Even thought this is just a rumor, I am more excited about this one than any other.

I'm hoping iOS 7 is exciting and different. I'm anxious to see what apple has in store!

If they are unifying Mac OSX and iOS, then any UI overhaul will be a strange departure for Mac features like launchpad and notification center that borrow heavily from the iOS designs.

I don't doubt that engineers have radically changed designs on their iPhones, but I don't think we'll be seeing any major changes for iOS 7.

It's too late in the development cycle to be making such major revisions. I hope I'm wrong because I would really like to see a design overhaul along with API updates to enable inter-app communications.

As with software, better late than buggy.

Yep. And I expect this is more the truth in the matter. Forstall blew it big and released an iOS 6 with some serious flaws. I think it's possible and probable a few fresh eyes were brought in to help go over code to look for possible issues.

And/or said engineers are there consulting because the new UI is being modeled on the Mac OS. So they are meeting together to talk about what's staying from 10.8 to 10.9, what's changing etc.

“Ive’s work is apparently making many people really happy, but will also apparently make rich-texture-loving designers sad.” - Rene Ritchie

What exactly does this mean? Rich texture? Is that like the Passbook shredding feature? or the Calendar app on the iPad?

The skuemorphism most likely will be gone for a more silver/non textured look

My prediction is that the spinning wheel page counter (that never took into account documents with hundreds of pages when printing) and the Calendar app will be tamed along with many other inconsistent UI details. With Ive at the helm, the UI will be clean and functional with minimal glitz and glam.

I don't care. Just don't change the overall restrained nature of the OS. Yes, thats right, I wan't it to RESTRICTED. To keep everything efficient and intuitive. I'm not a 12 year old school kid that has the time to tinker around with the OS only to have an unreliable system when I need it most.

Don't think you have much to worry about. The key audience is the same and Apple is more likely to tell the other 2% to have fun sorting out the jailbreak than adding a bunch of extras to make them happy

New iPhones have traditionally coincided with major new iOS versions. If the iPhone 5S is still due in the previously rumoured July/August timeframe and iOS 7 is now supposedly behind schedule, would Apple actually launch the iPhone 5S without iOS 7? That seems unlikely. So then if iOS 7 is delayed shouldn't the iPhone 5S be similarly delayed if they need to launch in sync?

Imagine the backlash if they did that especially after all the bad mouthing the s4 by Schiller for rumored to have outdated OS.

Ive's new idea of 'total UI revamp'

Change everything to silver, aluminium, thin and flat.

Most likely this will be another dark gray on light gray crappy looking interface.

On another note, Rene Ritchie, the guy says the most obvious things and now he's all over the place.

Here's what I see happening:
June WWDC: iOS 7 Previewed; iPad 5 Introduced; iPhone 5S Introduced
June: iPad 5 Ships/Launches
July: iPhone 5S Launches with iOS 7
September Keynote: iPad Mini 2 Introduced; "Cheap" iPhone Introduced; iOS 7.1 Previewed
September: iPad Mini 2 and Cheap iPhone Launch with iOS 7.1
November Keynote: iWatch Introduced
November: iWatch Ships

unless apple issues the first beta of IOS 7 before WWDC i wouldn't count on a july release.

iOS 7 needs to evolve. It hasn't really changed since apple allowed to change the backgrounds from black...
