First experience with iOS 7.0 on my 4S has been so so at best..

  • It drains battery really fast
  • It lags like hell. Coming from iOS 6.1.3 I it was buttery smooth.
  • I can't use Panorama mode on the Camera. Everytime I scroll to Panorama the camera quits. Bummer
  • It's different. Quite a lot apps had been designed with skeumorphism in mind. Gradient texture and all that. Now the OS itself is flat and minimalistic, it feels left out.
  • Colors .. Lotsa colors and not in a good way. Too toyish for my taste.
More reports to come. But overall I'm not too happy.

Apart from being ugly, the new interface is a pain to my eyes. To much white and hard to read details. I tried the inverted mode but this makes all apps look ugly. I just want to be able to read mail and web without getting a headache because of the eye strain.

A user interface shall be easy to read and not give you snow-blindness. I can't find a setting to replace the very light background color. Apple should add such a setting or offer an iOS compatibility mode for the user interface. I upgraded my iPhone 5 but I'll wait with the iPad to save my eyes.

I had the same issue.... Try turning the brightness almost all the way down. It helps and it's wonderful for battery life. (4th gen iPad)

This will be the most popular ipad accessory after the ios7 release

... By the way... It's starting to grow on me.... My eyes are not happy though...

My iPhone 4 couldn't make the update last night and now I'm in the process of recovering. Still waiting for more than 200 apps to reinstall from backup. Anyone knows if Google Authenticator will retain it's passwords and settings when it's finished restoring or I'm waiting for nothing?

Edit:
Another question. Can I put now more than 12 apps in a folder? It looks that you can have multiple pages in folders. Can I make folder inside another folder?

AirDrop: I understand that some docs can't be shared in both directions, but the lack of iOS to Mac and vice versa comparability for AirDrop is ridiculous. I should be able to easily AirDrop photos or attachments from my phone to computer. Likewise I should be able to send some file types via AirDrop from my Mac to my phone.

iOS 7 - So disappointed.

I don't even know where to begin. Text in all the apps too small (especially in music - can anyone actually read the time left on the song?). Text is so cluttered. Very little distinction to let you know where a button would have been if they added it. Is it just text or is it a button? I could go on and on with examples. 7 is not just different - it's just wrong on so many levels. It's as if they had a great idea, but no one knew how to implement it correctly or no one was willing to say NO! This doesn't work - fix it now! This isn't simplicity, it is utter clutter on so many levels. I can't tell you how disappointed I am with Apple at this moment. I know this is a new era without Jobs at the helm. I miss his touch. I miss his eye. I never thought I'd say this, but I need to find a NEW Apple if this is how they are morphing. Google is definitely not it, Microsoft is out. Apple, if you need someone to stand up and say no to things so you can get back on the right track, let me know. I'm ready.

Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. There's a "Use Cellular Data" toggle there that will prevent updates and other content from being transferred while on a cellular connection.

I use iTunes Match. Won't switching this setting screw that up?

Lol, this iOS 7 was made for a 5 inch iPhone! Let's hope next year will be the year of the 5 inch iPhone so I can finally give up my iPhone 4! :D

I am ok with most changes but I really don't like the look of the bottom row with the opaque background that smears and unfocuses whatever is behind. It made my old background picture on my iPad look bad and does not look much better with most other pictures. I wish they'd left it a transparent shelf/strip or just not bothered with making the bottom row look different.

I think there needs to be a filter you can apply to the icons to make them scaled monochromatic in the color of your choice. Right now, I find the icons only work against a plain black background as a sober contrast.

I'm really not liking this update so far, but in fairness I did realize from most screenshots that I probably wouldn't.

A few thoughts:

- The overall look/feel is just awful. It feels like it was designed by a high schooler. This is not minimalism - it's crappy icon sets and poor screen layout. The whole "slightly transparent" thing drives me nuts. I don't want a clean white screen all smudged with ugly colors.

- While spotlight is more accessible now, I think it's going to confuse a LOT of people. Very few of my friends knew to even swipe left to get there, let alone swiping downward in the middle of a screen. I had to google how to find it because the tip made it sound like you just swiped down anywhere (which results in the notification center usually)

- Photo view UI - WTF is this? A billion tiny icons grouped by date and location that you can barely see? Not a fan at all - it feels really cluttered. This feature I think I may change my mind on as I use it, but time will tell.

- Animations between screens - Apple, could we PLEASE get the ability to turn these off at some point? They feel even slower to me than in previous versions, and more distracting. I just want fast clean transitions.

I appreciate a lot of the new features, but just can't get into the UI.

The old iOS folder system was better - more space, time and effort efficient. All the zooming in and out makes my head spin.

----------

Making the top status bar unreadably small is a poor man's solution to having a bigger screen. They should put the old size back.

My impressions so far:

I've enabled "bold font" and "add contrast" in my accessibility settings and that's made a significant difference. I could barely read the letters otherwise. Too bad it doesn't seem to affect the letters on the keyboard though.

I'm slowly getting used to the changes but the pencil thin icons within apps really grate on my nerves. They're not intuitive and you really have to study them closely to see what they represent, otherwise with just a glance they look like blocks of thin lines. It's better when you're on the iPad, where the icons are a bit bigger and easier to scan. But on the iPhone they're nearly indistinguishable from each other.

I have a tendency to swipe between pages diagonally, and because of this the Spotlight sometimes pops up inadvertently. Annoying.

The weather app looks the best to me so far. I find the flat design really works there and tapping the temp for more info is really useful.

As others mentioned before, the white text in Messages. OMG. They have completely destroyed the look of Messages. I can't believe seeing how bad this looks that there's no option at all to change the colors. Unforgivable.

The text at the top of apps you tap on to navigate back and forth appear misaligned and scrunched together. It's very shoddy and unprofessional looking.

Overall I'm disappointed. The functionality and new features takes a few steps forward, but the design takes several major steps back. I'm not exaggerating when I say if they hadn't included the accessibility settings allowing me to adjust the font and boost the contrast a bit I would have tossed in the towel. Constantly squinting at my phone is not something I'd consider good for my health.

The Clock icon is too small

The Calendar icon text is too lightweight

The Settings, Newsstand, Contacts, Passbook, Voice Memos, Stocks icons are hideous

The colors are obnoxious, but I can live with that. The real test will be tomorrow when I use it in the light of day. Most of us aren't 20 year old troglodytes and we need to use our phones outside. One need only look at Ives ever expanding waistline to see that outside is a concept foreign to him.

I will wait until tomorrow to issue judgment but I'm not hopeful that the mandatory thin and transparent font will stand the test of Central Valley sunlight.

Call me a compulsive editor, but "cancellation" is misspelled twice at the bottom of the General-> Accessibility section of settings.

Just a note.

Does anybody know how to add commute times to the calendar app and notification center? It was demoed during the WWDC event but I cannot find it. Is it still there?

Also, I find the music and clock app on the iPad to be hideous.

Good news for the competition

As far as I am concerned this is a BIG step backwards for Apple (as far as the look and feel of the OS is concerned) Mr Ive should listen to himself talking about the iOS. There really is a disconnect between the glossy PR videos and the actual user experience

No one can argue that the new features are cool but there is so much small functional detail that is overshadowed by the terrible interface that the whole experience is a let down.

I've posted here before about how I traded in my two iPads and bought three Samsung tablets (still happy with them) I am still using my 3GS but I am now know when it dies I am switching to Android...Shame really.

I still think, for now, that Apple has the best desktop experience so let's hope they don't lose sight of why that is and PLEASE don't give us iOS for the desktop!! :(

Love it - mostly.

As others have said, can delete levelling and torch apps now.

As for the UI and, particularly the icons, I like the design but what I think it could do with is for the colours to be toned down (or even make the icons translucent) they are too bold/vibrant IMO although I guess that how they look will be affected to some degree by your choice of wallpaper (they'll stand out more on a dark background).

Unfortunately on my phone the adaptive colour of the folders means they are a dirty coffee colour due to my choice of wallpaper :(

The biggest annoyance for me is that the layout of apps in the folders has changed form 4x4 to 3x3 (on a 4S) which means, for example, an app that was previously at the top-right is now middle-left. Going to take a bit of getting used to.

I finally figured out why I dislike iOS 7. It seems like Apple has lost their touch for creating an OS that looks and feels the same regardless of which of their apps you are in. It lost familiarity within apps.

For instance, in the new FaceTime app, contacts are shown with a black background and contacts in white font. However, the phone app contacts still has the same white background with black font. WTF?

It's not a black background, but a translucent background showing the video underneath.
