You can be sure that I will not be installing any version of iOS 8 until after OS 10.9.1 has been released. I don't have time to screw around with all the initial release problems. iOS 7 currently works just fine with Mavericks, so I'm sticking with it.

I'm a heavy user, no BUGS FOR ME - has been pretty solid so far. Works better than iOS 7, faster, less crashes, less reboots, maps are quicker. Some apps do crash but maybe 1 a day at most. It has been a great experience for me. Again, apps load considerably quicker (except those that use metal - they take A LOT longer to load). Zen Garden and BB Racing take at least 30 seconds to load, it seems. Things like eBay, Amazon, Youtube, Maps used to take a while while now open almost instantly. Its insanely great ;-)

This is on the iPad Air.

The amount of bugs I've found has been minimal. I'm more interested in Apple Pay. I wonder how long into October that will be? Slightly disappointed it was not ready at launch.

It's really incredible how quickly Apple is able to issue updates like this. This is why i choose iOS products every time. Apparently only Apple can do this, everyone else takes many months to issue an update.

Whaaaaa?!?!? What did you read? Are you responding to a different post? This post essentially says Apple knew iOS8 was buggy and decided to release it to the public anyway. They knew it was buggy at the keynote while they were extolling it's virtues. I don't think you should be giving Apple a pass when they knew customers were going to have a degraded user experience. Yeah I know they had a window to meet but that is not an excuse. Don't tell me you're giving me the best when you know you're not. Not cool.

Web traffic from devices running iOS 8.0.1 on Apple's networks peaked around the time of Apple's media event before tailing off a bit, but Apple does indeed appear to have provided the update to carrier partners and MacRumors has received word from a source that the updates addresses several bugs present in the iOS 8 golden master version released to the public last week. Among the issues:

- Phone: Addresses bugs with call forwarding and freezing when accessing visual voicemail
- Keyboard: Fixes an issue with keypad not appearing to enter iCloud Keychain verification codes
- Safari: Fixes a problem with videos occasionally not playing
- Sharing: Fixes AirDrop support for Passbook passes
- VPN: Addresses an issue with installing VPN profiles

This is pretty crappy behavior if true. Since it's Apple, I'm pretty sure this thread will go towards 1. responses like dumastudetto 2. excuses why this okay 3. deflecting by bringing other vendors into the conversation while ignoring Apple's responsibility. Hopefully by the time I get my daughter's 6 in November this crap will be sorted.

Can we please get a fix that makes the notifications stay on the top of my screen?

I either have to tap on them or swipe up on them, they no longer disappear on their own 100% of the time.

I was expecting an update to address the wi-fi issues.... :(

It's an iOS device. It's always going to have WiFi issues, lol. Seriously though, I'm never sure if it's crappy campus networks or the devices themselves. At home I don't usually have problems, so I'm leaning towards the former. But I have noticed that the speed tests I've been running on the iPhone 6 Plus connected to my new AC AirPort Extreme are slower than the speeds of my iPad Mini Retina connected to my old N Airport Extreme that I ditched last week. But I can pull 105/10Mbps on my MacBook Pro using N connected to the new AC router so who knows.

In addition to the fixes mentioned, I also hope this update fixes a lot of the other small annoying issues, such as:

  • 3rd party keyboard issues (where to begin?)
  • Raising to listen/reply to voice texts (what are they called?) doesn't work very often
  • Keeps popping up that other people have "kept" my audio messages and that I have also "kept" their messages when neither one of us have "kept" anything
  • The Delivered/Read text in iMessages gets covered up completely or part way
  • Multitasking between apps crashes the iPhone 6 Plus more than it should
  • Safari error messages about needing to reload the page because of a problem, sometimes repeatedly on sites like The Verge
  • Make quick replies harder to accidentally cancel
  • Fix bug on 6 Plus that makes it so you can only use the device upside down (yes I realize it works upside down, the bug was keeping me from using it normally and had to reboot)
  • 6 Plus can't won't connect to my car bluetooth adapter for some reason
  • Extensions don't save how you ordered them and keep resetting to default
  • Bug where the contents of a page in Safari in landscape will disappear until you rotate it back and forth
  • You can rotate the home screen upside down on 6 Plus, but no other apps. Seems inconsistent.
  • Visual glitches when adding new list items in Reminders, such as overlapping items and separators

A few simple useful options they should add:

  • Split keyboard option in landscape on iPhone 6 Plus
  • There needs to be a 3 month or so option for keeping text messages. I often need to look back more than 1 month to reference something, but 1 year is overkill and uses more space
  • Option to see the status bar in landscape safari on iPhone 6 Plus

That's all I can remember for now.

My post doesn't say anything of the sort. What it says is Apple has been working around the clock to address issues that have been discovered since the release build was issued. And as a result, they are in a position to issue an update incredibly quickly to improve the overall experience for all consumers. There has to be a cut off point for shipping because the OS needs to be loaded onto new iPhones before they reach customers.

On the Android side, you'd probably be waiting for many months before you received this same calibre of update for your new phone.

iOS 8 is a great release as far as I'm concerned. I haven't encountered any serious frustrations or issues. But I still think it's great Apple is working so hard to make improvements for the benefit of everyone.

thats the thing, i ALWAYS do a clean DFU restore before each new iOS.
even the dang voice notes in iMessage are sending as an iMessage and a text.
the keyboard lag was awful but the phone heat was crazzzzzzy. the battery was draining right before my eyes. wonder if it has to do with my 5S being slightly bent?

You have a harware problem there for sure then. Take it in to Apple.

The main but (aside from wifi) I've niticed is some UI glitches when rotating into landscape.

The non-rotating content to landscape is driving me crazy, too. First thing I noticed…then the persistent wifi issues. My iP6 is constantly forgetting my router connection, and I'll find out that I've been on LTE the entire time. Or, while connected to wifi, pages that are nornally very quick (1 second) take about 6-10 seconds to load. So frustrating.

Definitely some bugs that need addressing. I originally said the all was fine with my iPhone 5, but its not and now I kinda agree with those saying this is worse than the iOS 7 GM.

Freezing, third-party keyboards not working correctly, overheating etc.

I used to jump on software updates. Now, I prefer waiting until their stable for installation.

I couldn't be happier than with 7.1.2 for iPhone 5 and 10.9.5 for my iMac!

Every software version has been buggy since 2007, this is a fact. And the fact that they provide as many updates as they do to as many users as possible is great, and you don't see that with many other software companies.

Very frustrating. Also, the wifi issue has been there since early iOS 8 betas. Annoying the heck out of me on my 5s.

I've got an iPhone 6, so I have to IOS 8. After my initial restore from my iPhone 5 (which seemed to go smoothly), I haven't been able to sync my phone using iTunes. Keeps hanging up on something.

I've seen that too, while backing up my iPhone 6 to my Mac. It gets randomly hung up on apps that are updating/transferring from my phone to the Mac.

I have to manually "pull the plug" and re-plug again to start the process. Ususally works after 2 or 3 attempts. Crazy.

I hope they fix the app launch lag bug which is caused by long carrier names in status bar!! We are waiting since 7.1.

Mine do.
