Well against my better judgement, I updated my 8.0.2 to 8.1.2 and I am back to bad battery life like I had with my previous 6.

I kept the carrier file at 18 and didn't notice any difference, so I might as well update to 18.1 since I am getting tired of the thing keep asking me to update.

It's bizarre how some people are having worse battery life and some are not.

8.1.2 is definitely more of a battery drain on my 6+ than previous iOS8 updates. I get over an hour less usage time per charge. If I use an iPhone 5 backup all is well, but if I reset all settings afterwards and then toggle all the settings to exactly how they were again, the increased drainage starts. It must be the update.
Hopefully the impending new update will be better!

Hopefully. I am not at all happy with the 8.1.2. Looks like I am using the same 5s instead of 6+ when it comes to battery timings

iOS 8.1.2 is bad for me, too. Worse battery life than previous versions. I hope 8.1.3 fixes the problem, in a few days.

I don't think 8.1.3 will have anything to do with battery life.
Actually I don't think there is any specific battery issue with 8.1.2
At every, and I mean every, point update of iOS, some users are claiming battery issues. The real ones were just a few....

You think the iPhone hardware and iOS is absolutely perfect in every way. It isn't.
I think 8.1.2 drains the battery more than previous iOS8 updates. I spent many hours trying to correct it and came to the conclusion that it's 8.1.2
I lose approx one to one and a half hours of battery life per charge cycle. I am now getting 9.5 - 10 hours on my 6+ compared to the 10.5 - 11 that I was once getting. I got almost 12 hours once and that is impossible for me on 8.1.2, even with light use. The trouble with iOS8 is that there are many bugs, speaking from my experience with the 6+, and we are forced to update in an attempt to cure them. I would have stayed on 8.1.1 for the rock solid battery life, but had to update for bug fixing purposes. It's frustrating when a forced update robs battery life. As soon as a solid version of iOS8 comes out, if it ever does, I'll be sticking with it and ignoring future updates. Why fix something that isn't broken....

Yes yes, we already know. Your iPhone 6+ is an awful mess in every aspect: quality, software, camera, tabs reloading....
Well, nothing is perfect on this world (except maybe Megan Fox...), but you've got a very unlucky unit....

I don't believe that I have an unlucky unit. It reloads tabs for fun due to the lack of RAM, and iOS 8 is buggy.

it takes a few charge cycles after an update for the battery to settle.

i have done exactly what you have said, however i find my phone battery dying quicker with this new update (8.1.2). ill be out and my phone will shutdown on me 20-30% as soon as i go and check a text message.just wondering if it is normal to charge my phone twice a day? i am currently using an iphone5 with IOS 8.1.2 on it

I don't know why people don't listen. Drain your battery to auto-shut off, then charge to 100% + a few hours, your battery will be fine.

Lol. That just recalibrates the battery meter, it doesn't cure battery drain.

Because it's not a drain in most cases, it just the meter is not showing the correct info. I've timed every update seeing how much time it takes to drain 1%. After every recalibration all the updates have been the same if not better. Have you actually recalibrate it?

That sounds like a bad battery. Have you checked your serial# against the iPhone 5 battery recall?

I run mine down to 1% every night. Sometimes 0%.

You know that actually that is not really that good for li-ion batteries yes? Nor is it necessary. They like it better if charged when around 40-50% actually.

No point having a big battery if I can only use half of it. If it ever expires I'll buy a new one, but having said that my iPhone batteries have always been over 80% of new capacity after 18-24 months.

Yeah I didn't mean don't use it. It sounded like you were intentionally running it down to "calibrate" it every day. On the other hand, if you are killing a 6+ with normal use everyday all the way to zero you may want to consider a laptop instead of a phone :) Cant imagine what anyone would do on a phone for 12 hrs a day.

Web browse mate, and for less than 10 hours per day...

No, it's not normal to charge your phone 2 times per day. Something is eating at your battery. If the battery usage section in settings doesn't give you a clear picture as to what is draining your battery (like a app gone rogue) then go through the following steps one by one until the issue is resolved:

- Restart your phone
- Sign out of iCloud, Appstore and iMessages and sign back in.
- Reset Network settings (this forgets Wifi passwords so be advised)
- Reset settings (most people hate doing this but it does resolve weird issues)
- Restore your phone as NEW and not load from a backup.

Again, pause after each step to see if the battery issue goes away. You do not need to do all of them.
