iOS8 adoption

iOS 8 adoption looks like it's about to hit the 3/4 mark (75%)
That's taken from my Apps usage stats for this week.
Still hanging out for iTunesConnect analytics with installation source details.
With each new threshold of iOS8 uptake (>70% >75%) and each iOS8.x release I've been praying for this promised land...

From what I've seen, 8.3 is the one too look forward, seems a tad smoother on the 4S.

Hope you're right! I'd like to hold off for the camera upgrade that's been hinted at.

It has seemed like there are some time-bombs built into the 4s - been through this with several Macs in the past. It seems uncanny...things just don't work quite the way they used to even while still on iOS7. Mail was giving me a blank screen today until I restarted. Never have seen that one!

Dear Apple, never mind this guy. WiFi works fine on my iPhone 6 so don’t go breaking something that works for the vast majority.

Lucky you. Round of applause, please.

This has been fixed for a while; I used to have the problem but it went away in 8.1.

Are you sure it's not your network at this point?

It seems to be any random network that I connect too. My iP6 connects for a while, and then without warning, automatically disconnects from the network and switches over to LTE or 4G. This sucks because I don't realize that it's happened and I use lots of data as a result.

There's tons of posts about this on the Apple forum. Seems to have been corrected for some users with the 8.1 update, but definitely not all iP6 users.

Yeah.

The text/call iPhone-Mac thing works pretty good. Airdrop is hit or miss. But Handoff & Continuity I think I only got it working once.

Also, fix the 3rd party Keyboard situation already!

That's strange. Continuity, and off, and AirDrop will work fine for me. AirDrop does seem to have a bit of a lag but all of my devices show up for all of my other devices within 10 seconds.

My iPhone hasn't been able to find my headset since 8.1, my macbook still finds it. Resetting network hasn't helped, hell even getting a new iPhone(unrelated issue) didn't help. Sure would be nice if they fixed the bluetooth issue once and for all.

I feel it not less annoying than when I read "it doesn't work for me, iOS 8 is a mess"

Simple solution: Don't read it! And don't waste your time posting something like it works fine, which doesn't help at all!

In one case, you have people posting that they have a problem. This is completely optional but can be helpful to the cause.

In the other case, you have people who have no problem reading about people with problems (usually in threads that are titled as such) and complaining that they have no problems thus everyone should, I suspect, keep quiet about their problems. That you have no problems changes nothing of the fact that people do have problems. Perhaps you don't use the same device, or use it in the same way, or don't consider certain things problems (like iOS 7.0 being slow as molasses yet some people said it was just 'fine').

People that have problems with their expensive devices want solutions, thus they have reason discuss. I can't think much of reasons why someone who is bothered by this and has no problems of their own would then proceed to read them.

Honestly, that you made the comparison at all is really something.

Great post.

Sadly I think a lot of people have identity issues, and feel a critique on something they cherish, such as ios or osx, is in some way an insult to their persona. It isn't.

Many of us are in the Apple ecosystem by choice, and recognise it as the best alternative right now. It doesn't mean it is perfect, and cant be improved for the benefit of all of us.

Just posting that it sucks isn't helpful either.

The general discussion culture on the internet isn't great. And some people see the world only black and white. Either something is awesome or it totally sucks. But the point here is different and it has been said before:

Dear lkrupp, do you really believe anyone at Apple reads and reacts to post on this forum?

The Wi-Fi bug is starting to get commented on in the national press now as so many people are getting huge cellular data bills because of it.

Actually it helps, because let the complainer know that it isn't an universally known issue and there is hope to solve it.

I only just recently noticed it as a problem. There never was much to indicate it for me. A few times recently, while on wifi I would get the "could not connect to cellular network" message. I've found this weird.

Turns out last month I went way over my 6 GB limit for the first time in 5 years. I suspect this may be why.

I also found out Fido stopped sending alerts when you approached and went over your limit. Apparently they stopped sending them because they have an app that you can use to see it. The app was last updated June 2011 and supports iOS 3.0.

So is the Watch companion app going to be in the App Store or will it be a stock app on the phone?

That wasn't my point.

It's about their extrapolation that they infer their experience is everyone else's and complaining about "Apple is a stupid piece of ****" who doesn't know how to make software/hardware. They wouldn't be there where they are if it would be true. Apple's combination of hardware and software is as perfect as it can be for mass product.
I'm happy to help people with their problems but most of the time they are just ranting about Apple and iOS as crappy software and that annoys me.

"iOS 8.3 brings several new features to the operating system, most notably introducing a redesigned emoji picker and adding both new emoji and emoji skin tone modifiers."

KILLER.

Fix 3rd Party Keyboards

I'm amazed more people aren't pissed off about this. I cannot believe how poorly this came out in iOS 8.

I consistently have to quit the messages app just to be able to type using SwiftKey. It even affect the Mail app pretty regularly now. And of course, half the the time, I can't start a Spotlight search.

It's pretty bad really, and I'm hoping that iOS 8.3 is the update that takes care of this. iOS8 has been the buggiest iOS I've ever experienced.

Funny ....

but wifi issues are not Apple's alone. It's basically the fault of your router. Samsung, LG, Microsoft, Lenova, HTC, Huawei, Nokia, all have wifi issues.

I haven't had an issue with wifi on any of my Apple products in at least 3-4 years. It's all dependent on the routers you're connecting to. Your wifi problems can all be solved by changing routers - not waiting for Apple and getting upset.

I hope 8.2 fixes the broken now playing screen on my lock screen. when I play songs with the music app, and my screen turns off. when I wake it up, shows a song that played many minutes ago, when I hit next, nothing happens. I am forced to unlock the phone to continue fast forwarding to another song. Only fix is to end the music app, and relaunch.

Because with all the issues with iOS and OS X I can't believe the ridiculous number of stories about making sure that there are emoji that match a person's actual skin color. I hate discrimination as much as anybody, but runaway political correctness makes me crazy. Not everything is a conspiracy to keep minorities down.

If that's all Apple has to offer in terms of new features then someone needs to be fired.

they are reporting what they know, 8.3 will bring emoji and other improvements. I don't see how that translates to: the only thing apple is working on is emoji. There couldn't possibly be a new music service, stability improvements and other bug fixes coming.

Makes sense, llvm3.6 is out today and they'll want to release XCode 6.2 with updated llvm. So both iOS8.2 and XCode 6.2 can be released on Monday.
