So consider yourself lucky.

I just tried to make it happen but it didn't. I swiped to unlock immediately and typed my PIN, but the status bar never expanded. Is this an intermittent problem?

I have PIN disabled. No passlock either. Usually it happens when I leave the phone for a couple of minutes.

I had the same problem with iOS 8.2 but it is fixed with 8.3 as long as I noticed...

I had this problem on my iPhone 5S 8.2 and still have it after upgrading to 8.3, although it only occurs when my phone has been in standby for a long time. I can't reproduce it immediately after it happens.

I have this on my 6 but not all the time. I had it in 8.2 and still in 8.3

This along with other stutters when using the phone makes me think of android a few years ago. You would think that with such a simple interface that Apple would have sorted everything out.

It makes using my 2nd edition Moto X a pleasure to use when I use it. Don't get me wrong I love my iPhone 6 but when you see people saying that iOS is the smoothest operating system it makes me laugh.

I use WP, BB, android and iOS and they all have their advantages.

I (think) I have found a solution to this glitch. Set your home and lock screen to the same picture.

No, you didn't. At least not for me. A couple of friends told me that iOS 9 beta has no amazing status bar.

Always had the same wallpaper on both locked and unlocked screens and I've been seeing the glitch.

Same here, always the same wallpaper on both screens. It's still happening on iOS 8.4 beta 4. I think it got fixed on iOS 9. I tried iOS 9 for a day and it didn't happen.

Dang. I found a solution that worked for me and hoped it would work for everyone else. I also have touch ID enabled but other people have suggested that and it hasn't fixed it for everyone. It is a really annoying glitch so I'm sorry for the false hope.

I thought I was fairly OCD but the fact that this 'really annoying glitch' doesn't bother me at all makes me think I'm not that bad.

Hmm I thought this bug was totally squashed and it mostly is on 8.4.1 but then I saw it once last night! It's reduced a lot for me though!

Solution: When selecting a wallpaper, turn off perspective zoom. You're welcome :)
Never used perspective zoom and have had reduced motion enabled on top of it and I've still seen this issue.

For what it's worth... It's still not fixed in iOS 9 PB3

Sorry guys.
I can't say I've noticed it in the last few iOS 9 betas I've been running (while I've noticed it often enough with 8.2, for example).
