Because they want to get their music streaming service off the ground ASAP and redesigning the music app for that makes perfect sense. They would not go through adding features to the music app in every 8.4 beta if they didn't intend on releasing it soon. They would have saved it for the iOS 9 betas. Plus it also makes no sense for Apple to put a new music app in the 8.4 beta when its intended for an iOS 9 release therefore removing any wow factor. Are you forgetting 8.4 is in PUBLIC beta? Trust me it will be part of 8.4

It might be a Public Beta, doesn't mean its gonna get released. The streaming service may be released as a separate app, none of us have any idea what Apple's going to do, do we? If you have used the 8.4 beta you know unless Apple has gone a bug squashing mission over these last few weeks, it's not ready for release. There are still broken things in the music app, although they are getting better. Up Next still frequently crashes on me and unless they yank some features out before 8.4 drops, there are going to be a lot of unhappy users.

Also, I am not saying the updated Music.app won't be released in the final version of 8.4, I'm saying 8.4 might never be released period.

Apple have already said they'll be releasing an update soon, which means for iOS 8 as September is still months away.

The messaging bug would probably have been fixed by now if they wanted it to be, so I think they've added the fix to 8.4 which will be released shortly.

Apple could very well release 8.3.1 to fix the text message bug, we still have 4 days until WWDC. Heck, maybe 8.3.1 will be released at WWDC, we have no idea. I'm just guessing here.

Ok pal, keep believing whatever you want. 8.4 will be released with new music app. And yes that's exactly what they have been doing is squashing bugs for the past three weeks since the last beta. You think they just gave up on the remaining bugs on a multimillion dollar streaming service they are giving a speech in in 3 days? Your ignorance is overwhelming for any more comments.

Billboard's June 5 story is also saying end of June launch for music service, see below. If its mainstream press (WSJ, NYT, FT, Billboard, Bloomberg etc), I tend to believe it more than the blogs, so I'm thinking end of June is more likely. But it could be that 8.4 comes out Monday and there is an 8.4.1 that turns on the music service (or a beta on Mon and 8.4 drops with the music service towards month's end). They have been saying that they are still negotiating with (some?) labels (see front page of MacRumors). On the other hand, they want this to go hand-in-hand with the watch going into stores, I am guessing, as there will be easy control from the watch face.

Interestingly, Billboard source is saying the data shows people either pay for music after 90 days trial or they stay free forever. Also apparently Apple will become a quasi-label itself, signing exclusive artists. Sort of like Amazon and Netflix creating their own content to drive subscriptions, now Apple is doing so also but with music.

"Apple will announce its own long-awaited streaming initiative at an event expected to feature Drake and Pharrell Williams, who, sources tell Billboard, will provide the service -- which will launch at the end of June -- with exclusive content."...

“We’ve looked at the data, and what has become clear is that the free funnel isn’t working,” another major-label executive tells Billboard. While the percentage of users that Spotify converts to paid subscribers is among the highest for popular consumer Internet companies, at about 25 percent, 69 percent of those who subscribe after using the free tier do so within 90 days, according to a major-label executive who has seen Spotify data...

Apple’s in the thick of negotiating its own label contracts for its planned streaming service. A high-level label exec says that in 2015 the company will invest more money in the music business than in any previous year. Iovine -- who, as a producer and former head of Interscope, is on close terms with some of the biggest acts in the business -- has been busily lobbying major artists for exclusive albums. “Jimmy is as good as it gets, and he is going to use every possible advantage that comes from the Apple connection, including the company’s vast store of credit card numbers, artist relationships, new design features, the works,” says longtime Bruce Springsteen manager Jon Landau, who has known Iovine since he engineered Springsteen’s 1975 album Born to Run...

8.3 broke external GPS functionality on my iPad two months ago, rendering it useless for the moving map navigation I use for private flying (Dual GPS150/Skydemon iOS App). Apple didn't care to release a hotfix, although the issue was acknowledged and supposedly fixed in 8.4b. Rollback to 8.2 is not possible either.

Not happy.

My experience with iOS7 and now iOS8 shows me that Apple rarely fix anything and if they do, it often takes the whole length of your phone contract before they finally get around to it.
They also rarely admit to anything bad, unless way too many people complain about it and the newspapers get hold of the story. I'm rapidly going off the company to be honest. If the 6S and iOS9 are more of the same then bye bye Jony and Tim. My 6+ hasn't been right since day one and we're less than 15 weeks away from the next iPhone. I refuse to get into the habit of dropping big money on iPhones that perform worse than my old one.

Sadly have to agree, Apple feels out of focus for some time. Glitz and appearance trumping functionality - probably best illustrated by that 1st gen gold watch 'Edition'. Oh well.

A gold watch has nothing to do with their software developing capabilities, and it is foolish to assume that.

True, but such expense for a piece of tech is ridiculous. The first gen watch will be old news next year. Far better to drop big dough on a Rolex or Omega etc and then buy the cheaper Apple Watch to complement it. A quality mechanical timepiece never dates.

Sure looks that way. Monday we'll see the fix released.
True and also maby the new look/interface of ios 9.

A.k.a new look of Android? I really really like the new look of vanilla 5.1 lolipop.

Maby Apple comes with something new like on ios7 back in the days.

hopefully they keep mDNSresponder in place of discoveryd on OS X and make that same change on iOS

If they release something on Monday for the mDNSresponder on OS X and unicode power efficient fix for IOS would be nice.
I wonder if people participate in sending diagnostic log? I have this turned on for my 6+ and MBA.
Heh.. they probably seen many of my Jetsam log.

I don't think there will be a iOS 8.4 GM. I'm thinking that Apple just used it to get a head start on beta testing the iOS 9 music app.

i know i have it turned on. as nice as it would be for the OS X update to come out with mDNSresponder put back in for now at least. it doesn't really do anything to improve the overall network situation if you have iOS device(s) and they don't remove discoveryd thru an iOS update as well. My understanding is it's some kind of cache poisoning, which means as long as discoveryd is still on iOS devices, it won't help the overarching issue by just fixing it in OS X.
