This has to be one of the dumbest thing I've read on this site in a long time. And that's say a lot.

Let's say Apple could do what you suggest why would you want them too? That'll just screw us the consumers.

Many true Apple fans would be happy to pay a little more if it means increased corporate profitability. I hear that feeling around here very often. Apple will "own" the streaming market within one year and we'll see the smaller players like Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, Deezer, etc. fold because they will not be able to compete. Heck they already are barely profitable or losing money. I do predict that Google and Amazon will stick around, but will be minor players in this market.

You can say my post is stupid, but I bet within one year Apple will own 75% of the streaming market and when you own that much you can drive market pricing however you want.

Take my word for it. It's lights out for the little guys especially with an installed base of iOS products where this will be a pre-installed app front and center. They may struggle a little on the Android side, but if they can take enough of the iOS market I expect the Android market will fall to them in time.

In the end, all your music will be in the cloud just the same irregardless of...

Will it though???? Match lets me upload tracks not in iTunes, stuff Ive created myself....by all rumour accounts Apple Music doesnt allow this does it?

Is Beats 1 going to be a single-genre station?
I'm guessing it will be mainly pop music with a few special shows. My guess is your not going to be hearing much alternative rock, hard rock, country (except Taylor Swift), classical or jazz. It'll be mainly whatever is on the Top 40 charts right now. I might be wrong, but I doubt my guess is that far off.

You've obviously missed the list of DJ's then. Zane Lowe alone blows your 'pop music' thing out the water.

My iTunes collection is around 20,000 songs, but my music collection is much bigger. I have over 1500 cds, but most of them are not on my computer. Now that they are raising the iTunes Match limit I can finally go through them again and start adding music without worry.
1500x10 is 15000. And most are probably already in Match, so they don't count against the limit. I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Yeah, because you are totally able to install an iOS update in 10 minutes. For everything but the iPhone 6 even 1 hour should be next to impossible.

Exactly. Every time there's an iOS update, it's chaos. I've been around these forums long enough to know. You can go look at any of the previous threads about a release and see hours, even a couple days before people get the update installed.

What would be smart to announce what countries is getting what (if anything) to avoid backlash and anger tomorrow.

100 countries getting Apple Music. Simples.

I'm 100% certain that you in Canada will get the full package. They stopped iTunes Radio stuff for the rest of the world to work on this. That means 2 years to get agreements in place.

The only songs that don't count are the ones in your library which have been purchased from iTunes. All the rest are subject to the current 25,000 song limit, even if they are successfully matched.

We'll see where it goes. I do know the market Beats chases and it's pretty mainstream "big name" artists with lots of auto-tune, bass and electronic instruments. Now they start playing some good Breaking Benjamin, Incubus, Linkin Park, etc. I'll be impressed.

As I have said, Zane Lowe will prove you totally wrong. He plays what he wants and hasn't been hired to be told what to play by Apple. Look him up and you'll see.

Well ok there's one DJ that might be good. I already have 7,000 iTunes tracks, Deezer for $4.99 a month and quite a few vinyl records, but I'll check it out. If this station is being used to draw in people to Apple Music it will be interesting to see how they use it to draw in the maximum amount of listeners using 1 channel. I can assure you Apple's Beats crew will have plenty of input into how this channel is run. To think otherwise pretty much dismisses everything we know about corporate marketing and control. Apple is the master at marketing.

err, it says on the Apple Music page that it will upload songs not on the iTunes store.

Probably the biggest issue with Apple Music is at $9.99 a month there just isn't a lot of profit to be made after all the royalties are paid. The good news for Apple is most of the other streaming companies are on pretty shaky ground financially and if Apple is aggressive enough, hopefully it can drive most of them out of business. After competition is reduced or eliminated it can raise the price to a more realistic $19.95-29.95 a month and make a killing on this service.

Why in the world would you only want one streaming service and for Apple to put the others out of business? Have you not heard of competition is good for the consumer? I would never want Apple to be the only streaming service.

The good thing is, that your idiotic thought process will never happen and other will continue to be there. It's never good to just have one service in anything.

Look at the list of DJ's and guest DJ's. You're being ignorant. There's a wide range of people in the list of DJ's they've announced.

I am 100% sure that Zane Lowe and the other key DJ's are the ones in control. Zane was big for new music and new artists in the UK and would play whatever he wanted. He had a section on his show called 'Masterpieces' where he'd play an album in its entirety, from Nevermind by Nirvana, to Apetite for Destruction by Guns N Roses, to Rage Against the Machine by Rage Against the Machine, to Boy in da corner by Dizzee Rascal, to the Black Album by Jay-Z, and that's just a sample.

I'm looking forward to the eclectic range of shows on this station.

I agree that Zane Lowe & other DJ's are in control. Apple doesn't have the time to monitor beats 1 radio 24/7; and to tell you the truth, I don't think Apple would want to if they could.

Not saying I want that to happen and for now I'm still on a $4.99 a month Deezer plan I got through Bose for one year until next summer.

All I am saying is that if the current streaming services are already having problems with profitability do you honestly think they will be able to survive Apple entering this market and taking millions of current and potential customers from them? I sure don't. My point is we'll be down to 3 main players within 2 years of this launch. Apple, Amazon and Google. Not a whole lot different then what we see with the MP3 market.

Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, Deezer, Tidal, Rhapsody, etc. will never withstand this and I guess some market consolidation is expected. Apple has every right to get into this market and when my Deezer trial is done next summer I'm sure I'll try their 3 month trial. Of course it depends on how good their Android app is and if they will do a Bose Soundtouch and Onkyo app.

My point being is when Apple enters a market the rest better be looking at consolidating or shutting down. Even reading through this forum I'd say about 75% of people who are current Spotify users are saying they are dumping it for Apple Music. Out in the real world it won't be that high, but Spotify will never withstand this and retain any profitability.

Thank God that they up the Apple Match to 100,000 from the previous limit of 25,000.

I may look into this now!!!

Progress is great!!!

I'll use it for the 3 months while it's free, but I don't foresee myself subscribing to it. $120 a year is alot. I don't even spend that much buying albums, but I'm not as young as I used to be.

It'll give me a chance to see what all this streaming business is about, but again, $120 a year for the rest of my life seems like robbery. Maybe if I was born in the last 20 years it'll make sense, but I grew up buying CD's and buying albums is my thing. Streaming just seems strange to me.

They should've released iOS 8.4 and the new seed of iOS 9 either Friday or today. Maybe they'll still release it today. Releasing it one hour before Beats 1 goes live doesn't make much logical sense if they want maximum exposure for the launch.

Yeah, because you are totally able to install an iOS update in 10 minutes. For everything but the iPhone 6 even 1 hour should be next to impossible.
Well, not releasing it too early is fairly sound idea--that way whenever people do update it's much more likely that the service will already be up and running and they won't be faced with some sort of "coming soon" type of screen or announcement and basically get disappointed that they still have to wait and perhaps not get back to it for some time after that because they might forget or something like that. Basically if a product/service is announced to be there with a certain update then once people have that update it seems like it's better that that product/service should already be there and working.

Frankly the updates should have been today while the go live for Beats 1 at a set time tomrrow. This is going to get botched judging by Apple's record.

So, presumably you can download tracks you don't own for offline listening (like spotify), but which will disappear if you stop paying, but redownload tracks you do own at a higher bitrate (like iTunes Match) and keep them forever?

For pete's sake people it's not rocket science.

If you have Apple Music, then you get all the benefits of iTunes Match for "free" as it's included in your $9.99/month.
Nope.

They may share a thing or two, but they are not the same functionality wise. That's why Apple will still offer iTunes Match, as it's complementary for some people.

Also, some people apparently didn't read the Apple pages, where it says that Beats 1 Radio is for everyone with an Apple ID registered. Apple music membership will however give you even more radio stations and also the huge music library.

8.4 includes Apple Music, which is not US only, but basically almost worldwide. Coming soon refers to iOS 8.4, which is the iOS release specifically for Apple Music, that's why Apple will launch both at basically the same time, the new music app will directly be ready to use Apple Music.

All this according to the official Apple website, it clearly says so.

Excited for tomorrow.
