Typical troll feeding and Android bashing article.

I'm not using an Android phone but there is one thing I can tell you.
If Apple would let me go back to iOS7 I would do so immediately.

But Apple wants to keep showing figures like these while slowing down my device , so that I buy their newest product.
Let's praise them . Yay, Apple. Android sucks and so on and so forth..

And you had choice and decided to upgrade.....but did you really need to or where you just curious as most others are? :p

SO, google's slow rollout of 5.0 doesn't prove anything you claim it does. Other than this is a slow staged rollout and the 3rd party android device makers are ridiculously slow at getting their updates out

No, but it's a plus for iPhone people try hard to deny: that you get a ton of new features every year, free.

I can't believe its that low for Android.

And for peopling hating on iOS 8:
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/20492/20141118/android-5-0-lollipop-rollout-plagued-issues.htm

Android 5 bugs are naturally reported less because less less people are using it.

Narrative building are we? Try a little harder. ;)

Why would someone hating iOS 8 care about Android issues? Is that some form of "misery loves company" or "crabs in a barrel"? It seems the majority of those who have issues with iOS8 aren't looking to leave iOS, they are looking for improvement. There's a difference. Bugs in Android have no relevance for what you're talking about.

You say Lollipop bugs are reported less? Sure, on MacRumors.
A cursory google for "lollipop bugs" will pull down 2.5 million results. Somebody's reporting something.

Just last night, I finally got my wife's iPhone 5S (which she got in August) from iOS7 to iOS8. And did the same with her original iPadMini (which was stuck on iOS6, wifi only) last month. Both devices have only 16GB capacity, and both needed to have photos/videos removed in order to free up enough space to upgrade.

Given that she has an almost unused Windows Vista desktop computer, it was somewhat of a pain and an ordeal to transfer (save) those pics and vids before deleting them on the devices, then backing up, and then upgrading.

As others have stated, the 16GB models should not exist in today's market. I was shocked and disappointed that Apple scrubbed the 32GB models and kept the 16GB in this last go-round. Fiscally makes sense for them, but in turn also flipped the bird at their customers.

My own iPhone 6 and iPadAir are 64GB (I wanted the phone to be 32gb, but…well you know what happened there). My wife is stuck with her iPhone 5S for another year and a half before her next upgrade, but at least I can get her a newer model iPadMini with larger memory and cellular capability later this year.

You can perform the update with iTunes connected to a PC which only requires your device have enough space for the new OS not the downloaded/unpacked and installed space.

The number suggest either:

(a) Android users are satisfied with KitKat and scared of updating to Lollipop because of fears of Google and/or bugs.

(b) Android users have gotten frustrated with the Android experience and stopped using their devices before Lollipop.

It's those combined with the ridiculous amounts of time it takes a new Android OS to make it on any phone that is more than like 3-6 months old. Perhaps it has gotten better since I used an Android, but I remember after Froyo was released it took more than 8 months before it was available on my device that wasn't even a year old yet.

my nexus 7 finally got android lollipop today...

and i thought i'd get the updates right away, when i buy a nexus device...

This just proves that Android isn't as popular as iOS

no. it proves that the different vendors take some time to upgrade their OS

it's neither. the updates aren't just there for all the different manufacturers.

Are you trolling your "own" forum? Are you guys really so clueless? Is this the only "news" you guys get about the "tech" world? This is pathetic

Wondering why anybody needs to know about Android adoption rates etc. in this forum. I don't do Android, but I wish those users eternal happiness.

Having intelligence on other companies that operate in the same competitive space is essential for anyone who wishes to be well-informed. If a book was written about German tanks of WW2 without mentioning how they compared to and were influenced by the armored vehicles of other countries, it would be a pretty poor book. Context is everything. Thus a Web site that is about Apple products can and should mention competitors and other influential companies and products to provide proper context for your understanding of Apple.

Update your data.

What adoption rates of earlier releases are you looking at?

iOS 7 was at 74% at this time last year. I don't see the slap mark. :D

This time last year, iOS 7 was at 80% not 74%. You're comparing early December data (your link) with January data (OP). Regardless, whether 2% or 6% the spread is not that great. It just looks better when you bolster your argument with more timely data.

If that's true, then you can't compare marketshare between the two OS' either /picks up mic and drops it again.

Who said I was?

The only people who might care about those #s are developers. As long as your device does what you need it to - who cares?

What they don't tell you is there is 800 million kit kat users and 90 million ios8 users.
Apple is just a fly buzzing around google.

The achilles heel of Android has been its dependency on the Manufacturers and Carriers to release updates. Obviously Google has made major changes to Android's architecture to mitigate this issue, but it is not perfect.

I've never had a non-Nexus Android phone and if Google cancels the Nexus program (which is looking for more and more likely) I'll probably switch back to iOS for this reason alone.

(c) Google Play Services and Support Libraries make version less relevant

I wonder why Google never announces, during each new OS presentation, " Don't worry if you can't get it, this new version isn't really that relevant because of Support Libraries!"

I'm still waiting for Lollipop on my (cellular) Nexus 7! Unbelievable a Nexus device should take this long.

Why did you just make up random numbers? Kit Kat user and iOS 8 users are probably very similar right now (600-700 million). 1 billion iOS devices sold and probably close to 2 billion Google Android devices activated. 72% adoption for iOS 8 vs 39% for Kit Kat. Considering Android devices are more disposable than iOS devices, that brings the two OS users numbers pretty close.

Lemme guess. Lollipop broke an important app you used a lot, aimrite? It killed a lot of root required apps on my wife's Nexus. Still, it has a lot of nice features (better battery life being the Missus' favorite) that make up for killing those apps she doesn't use. (I use them though.:() She won't let me roll back to KitKat.:(:(:(

Nothing like that I'm afraid. I don't even root.

Random reboots, slow launching and performing camera and application instability were to much for me to bear with my old Nexus6.

Had zero issues on the Xperia thus far. : :D
