Searches now selected in spotlight

In iOS7 (and I think in previous betas of 8), the cursor is placed at the end of the spotlight search field when entering spotlight again to performing a second search.

In iOS8b5, the previous search term is highlighted — so it takes one fewer tap to perform a new search (no need to clear the previous search first).

So, if you:

1. Open spotlight
2. Search for, say, Safari
3. Open the Safari app from Spotlight
4. Hit the home button
5. Open Spotlight again...

... In iOS7, you need to either delete all previous letters or tap the x to perform a new search.

... In ios8b5, you can start typing immediately.

Small fix, but I'm grateful. It's been bugging me ever since the release of ios7; I don't recall that friction from ios6.

iOS 8, All The Little Things! [Features Discovered in iOS 8]

This is new. When activating iCloud on an Apple TV, this pops up on my iOS devices.

Spotlight in iOS 6 is like in iOS 7. Have to delete all previous letters or tap the x.

Don't know how long this has been like this but it's definitely a new feature of iOS 8. In stocks, on the bottom it doesn't show "Live Quote" anymore. It shows which exchange the ticker you're looking at is on ie. NASDAQ or NYSE. Little thing I found.

The pause icon when pausing an app while it's installing definitely is not new.. It's one of the first "hidden" features I discovered in iOS 7.

Another minor detail is that this update is a joke. You'd assume after the release of a lacklustre OS with only a drastic redesign and no real great features, that the next iteration would be feature packed.

Best update in ages for me. That's with the huge assumption on my part that it works well - I haven't tried it yet.

iOS 8 is all about app extensions. If you don't get this, it's your problem.

- Smiley icon for emoji keyboard smileys instead of that globe
- New sun icons in Mission Control where you adjust brightness
- New photo picker when sending photos over Messages

does someone have a screenshot of the new photo picker please?

um, extensions kind of blow all previous versions of ios out of the water.

and the widgets tool seems fairly powerful.

once ios8 is out and apps can take full advantage of these new features, you'll be able to do a lot more with your phone than you could before (or at least do the same things much much quicker and with more fluidity).

can't wait to see what the new hardware unlocks as well.

Are you joking or just being ignorant? After iOS7 was pretty much an UI reskin of iOS6 with no new updates to speak of underneath, iOS8 is jam packed with new updates. Just because you are unable to make use of most of them during the betas doesn’t mean this isn’t a massive update: extensions, keyboards, widgets, handoff, continuity. These are ECO-SYSTEM enabling updates. That’s massive.

You're correct that it's new for iOS 8, but it's been active since beta 1 :)

Continuity. Hand Off. Extensibility. Swift. etc.
This update is the biggest since App Store in iOS 2.

FaceTime Audio

Can anyone confirm if FaceTime Audio acts like iMessage please?

IE: FaceTime Audio because the default calling transport if you're calling another iOS 7+ device.

That's incorrect. iOS 7 was the massive change to the iOS framework that allows iOS 8 to be possible. There were more changes under the hood to iOS than just the UI.

how exactly did iOS 7 bring a "massive change to the iOS framework"? Sure, i agree each updated framework is used to support future iOS iterations but calling them "massive" in this instance is a little over the top don't you think?
