If you don't like a certain "required" app, just create a folder called "Dumb Apps" (as I did) and move every app you can't stand seeing but still might need once in a dark eon, and then move that folder to the last screen, so you won't be reminded of Apple's ineptness.

In my "Dumb Apps" folder: Game Center, Stocks, iTunes*, Apple Store*, my AT&T, Remote, App Store*. Obviously more to come! *I prefer to make my purchases and updates with my computer, and then transfer them to my iPhone.

I watch podcasts every week and the app works for me. I also use weather, stocks, and FaceTime. I like having native apps. So, those that say nobody uses them can now retract those posts.

Ugh...more pre-installed apps! Just make them Appstore apps. Not only will you allow users to have a choice but you can also update these apps without pushing out a system update.

I use the Podcasts app, so I don't mind it being pre-installed. But yes, use the App Store so we can get iterative updates!

Unbelievable. This is the final straw. I'm switching to Android. I can't understand why Apple feels it needs to force such a stupid app on to everyone. Podcasts is such an integral experience to iOS that it needs to be a stock app? Really? Who listens to podcasts? Nobody cares. Just like Health, Newsstand, Stocks, Compass, Phone, iMessage, Maps, Passbook, Reminders, FaceTime, Safari, iBooks. No. One. Cares, Cupertino. Just amazes me why they can't put in actual useful features.

No worries. Take care!

can anyone conform if the zoom in accessibility options is working properly now?
cos in beta 1 it was lagging a lot
from a visual impaired point of view...i had trouble using the feature if anyone can confirm if this has been fixe that would help a lot

Will iOS8 finally allow you to set the default web browser to any one you choose/prefer to use, like you can on any desktop computer?

Also, have Apple opened up their hidden areas so a third party web browser can be as fast as Safari ?

No and yes. You can't change the default web-browser, at least not in the current BETA. But Apple has made so third-party browsers can access and use the Nitro Javascript engine.

What's wrong with Compass?

Frankly iOS would be better off if it came with no apps. Imagine how useful that would be.
It would be crap because there would be no App Store to download apps.

Odd..

Actually I guess that makes me nobody.

I use Podcasts download some language training videos and some NPR shows on a regular basis to listen to while I'm at work.
Newstand keeps all of my photography magazines up-to-date.
Are you compass when I travel overseas because it's not always easy to navigate with local maps. Granted I don't use it that much, but it's convenient to have handy when I need it.
Phone? Seriously?
I use iMessage constantly to stay in touch with my family and my friends overseas which makes it free.
Maps. Check. It actually has shown these several paths that Google maps did not suggest they were actually quicker for me.
I use passbook for my Starbucks card, all of my airline tickets, and movie tickets. I have friends that use it even more than that.
Use the Siri Reminders is actually quite powerful and I use it many times each day.
Please FaceTime also to keep in touch with my family when I'm traveling, and my significant other who is living overseas right now.
Are you Safari because it syncs with my iPad and my MacBook and I've never had issues with it.
iBooks I use constantly for my language send materials, books to read when I'm on flights, and PDFs for work.

You know, maybe I should read this at least twice before answering. Now that I read it, it has to be sarcasm or troll. Because of somebody was this unhappy with their phone and operating system they would've switched a long time ago.

You're flipping out over beta software? Really?!

Despite the new feature, anyone found a way to install it without udid? I mean I tried with beta 1 and it worked fine for like 10-20 minutes then the phone auto reset itself back to activation screen. I got an error message. I was ok back when I tried with the 7 beta last year
Thanks

Another default app that can't be deleted. Hurray!

Stock Apple apps should not be deletable as they degrade the overall iOS experience for consumers if removed. If you're a real Apple fan, you'll consume podcasts the way Apple intended for example. And that's the way I do it.

Apple shouldn't even allow podcasts apps in the App Store once they provide stock functionality to handle it again.

That's not the point. The point is why does Apple feel they need to make iBooks and Podcasts stock apps? How are they pivotal in making up the default iOS experience? Ooh, books and Internet radio shows. How are these two things culturally relevant to inherently include them in iOS 8? For Christ's sake, Cupertino, at least give me a live weather widget on the Home screen.

iPhoto & iCloud

So, for months now between my wife and I (and a half dozen different iphones between us) we've backed up all of our photos and videos to Microsoft Skydrive/Onedrive. The insanely frustrating part is that once I've moved an iPhone video to Onedrive and deleted it from my photos app, the only way to get it back on my iphone is to sync it through iTunes where it then ends up in the Videos folder.

I will switch in a heartbeat to the new iCloud pricing if I can upload existing photos/videos via iTunes (similar to iTunes Match today) and then most importantly access everything via the Photos app including downloading to local storage (just like songs).

Seriously, why are you feeding the Troll?

He thinks the iPhone would be better without a Phone app. That tells you everything you need to know.

Hey guys, I too hate pre-installed apps and I got some juicy 411 for you all

Even on Mac OS X you can't delete some pre-installed apps, but here's the fun part. Thanks to scripting magic of the gods, integral parts of the OS can make calls to use some of these features elsewhere. Ever notice how well the software integrates with one another, how the calendar app recognizes event dates in messages or Safari and how well other applications communicate with one another. This is in part with how everything is designed. Sometimes some features are worth keeping and using for multiple parts across the OS and other Apps.

Although I too do not like them, they may server a much larger purpose for us to enjoy. The fact that we can at least hide them now is pretty cool. I guess the best possible alternative would be a toggle to hide their visibility (which can be done through the settings) but thats kind of lame for when you want to find things when it comes for searching, which goes against Apples Motto. However Siri can do a lot of cool things regardless if their hidden or not, which may persuade them to go with the hidden route. But once again hiding features wouldn't be good since every now and then a friend or someone finds something our mac can do that we didn't know before. Hiding more abilities wouldn't be cool either. Any who my long 2 cents.

iOS 8 seems to be fixing/changing all of the little things that have been annoying me since iOS 7 and below.

Like how they're now stopping Safari from opening App Store links against my will. Or how the global "Allow Notifications" setting for each app is another nice change.

It's like this year they've to a lot of complaints, and are doing a good job at addressing them.

I have but one question...

Does Bluetooth LE work properly in this build? It kept losing connection in Beta 1 on my iPhone, rendering my Pebble watch useless.

On another note, Handoff works brilliantly now; even better than before, between my iPad and Mac.

It's generally acknowledged that many people don't use the phone in iPhone. Even John Gruber thinks it should be taken off the Dock by default.

Report a bug

Another default app that can't be deleted. Hurray!

If you haven't already done so, instead of complaining here why don't all you guys go and report it to apple at bugreport.apple.com. The more that complain the more action will likely happen!

I listen to many podcasts, but I use better solutions like Instacast to do so. The Apple app stinks.

Could you please elaborate what exactly makes it so much better compared to the Podcast.app?

Seriously, I'm very curious as I'm listening to Podcasts daily and I have tried A LOT of various offerings, both paid and free on all three platforms (Android, iOS and Windows Phone) and I have yet to find anything remotely close to be as reliable and useful as the Apple Podcast.app.
