Unbelievable. This is the final straw. I'm switching to Android. I can't understand why Apple feels it needs to force such a stupid app on to everyone. Podcasts is such an integral experience to iOS that it needs to be a stock app? Really? Who listens to podcasts? Nobody cares. Just like Health, Newsstand, Stocks, Compass, Phone, iMessage, Maps, Passbook, Reminders, FaceTime, Safari, iBooks. No. One. Cares, Cupertino. Just amazes me why they can't put in actual useful features.

I presume this is deep sarcasm, which can often be missed on the internet.

I take offense to that characterization of my post, good sir. At one point or another members of our fine community have expressed their dismay that they couldn't remove any or all the aforementioned apps.

Not every one listens to podcasts or subscribes to digital newspapera or reads e-books or use digital gift cards and coupons. So I along with many other forum members are annoyed and confused as to why Apple would inherently include these culturally relevant apps as to define, shape, and convey what iOS is by default.

Like I said before... #firstworldproblems. We need to get you a new issue to focus that passion on. I doubt anyone else would complain that their iPhone has a Phone app on it preinstalled.

My jeans have this little pocket to stash a comb, condom or whatever, but I don't use it. It adds additional bulk and sometimes I mistakenly put my hand in it.

I think I will complain to Levi's to make it optional...;)

Come on. Is it really THAT important? Just move it to a folder and move only that folder to the last springboard page. Problem solved.

----------

Yeah first world problems here. How difficult is it to stick these apps in a folder and then get on with your life. Sheesh.

Hey, didn't recognise you. Nice new avatar. Looks very friendly.

I wish there was a do not disturb on notification centre for iOS like there is on OSX.

The current DND is only any good for over night, if you actually use the phone or have the screen on the notifications still come through. Occasionally id like to turn everything except phone calls off whilst streaming things or for some other reason.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... but under the "Do Not Disturb" section of the Settings App, if you scroll down to the bottom, there's a section entitled "SILENCE"... I believe if you have "Always" checked, it will do precisely what you're hoping. Even if you're in an app (say, Netflix, for example), notifications will be silenced (i.e., not shown) while you're watching a video while "Do Not Disturb" is enabled...

I think it's funny that people are responding to this trolling post as though there was any level of sincerity involved with it... heh. Good job!

Yes, clearly nobody wants the Phone app, or iMessage, or Maps, or a web browser... hah :)

He can have 2 out of 10 on the wind up scale.. it was so obvious.. tut tut.. must try harder..

Was Apple actually able to bring back fullscreen ID? I know it's very difficult, computer science is needed also some magic has to be involved, but can we have Fullscreen ID back? Or Apple just used Fullscreen only in slides for iOS8, because their actual solution is not only useless but also ugly looking?

First world problems

1. What seems useless to you might be essential to others and worthy of a default app status.

2. Put them in a folder and banish that folder to the last springboard page. You never need to see them again in your life. It's not like they take up a lot of space anyway.

So make it an option. That's the way it is on Apple TV, after all.

And those who DO find this app essential are the ones who should really hate this. Now the Podcasts app can get updates only when the whole system is updated.

Individual App settings

Correct me if I'm completely wrong here, I haven't check individual app settings in awhile as they are mostly useless, until now.

The individual apps settings in the Settings App now contain links to the "Privacy" and "Notificaion Center" toggles for that specific app.

Like everyone else is saying, these should be app store apps, so you can choose if you want them or not. This way you save room on your device, you're not annoyed and Apple can update them without full iOS updates.

Actually, on the Apple TV, you can choose to "hide" or "show" apps. They're still there, taking up space on the Apple TV. Just like how, on an iPhone or iPad, you can choose to "hide" apps in a folder.

Yep, lets just kill the entire web industry while we are at it.. How exactly are people providing you with free content on the web actually supposed to earn enough money to live?

Sometimes I feel people are so arrogant and ignorant that they deserve to get themselves a real wake-up call about how the world and the fundamental of living actually works.

i dont feel bad for blocking ads like AT ALL and never will not use an adblocker. those ads r way too much "in your face" and annoying and thats me working in the seo online marketing adword business lol

Are you serious? Sometimes I feel like people are complaining just for the sake of it... What is wrong with the Podcast.app? Its by far the best app for handling Podcast I have ever seen and is one of the things that make me cringe every time I decide to test the latest Android and Windows Phone offerings for a few weeks just to get some varied experience and to take a look at what Google and Microsoft have to offer.

Neither Android nor Windows Phone have anything that can compare to the now built-in and free Podcast.app in iOS. I have tried a lot of things as I'm listening to Podcasts daily and even paid version for a few bucks are not even close.

What more could you possibly want from such an app? It's reliable, you got some fairly good control over the various settings, it grab the latest podcasts as soon as they are available, it auto deletes podcasts you have listen to, you got sleep timers, you got the possibility to both slow down and speed up playbacks, its minimalistic and complies with all the iOS UX guidelines (obviously as it's a app developed and maintained by Apple).

The only downside would be that it can't subscribe to RSS feeds which is a downer. But as 99% of all podcasts are distributed FREE through iTunes no-one really has any excues to not have their podcast through iTunes anyways.

You really wrote this much for my comment? Apple fans never cease to amaze. Did someone piss you off today? How the hell does Android and Windows have anything to do with podcasts. LOL

The Podcast app does suck. Out of all the Apple apps, its the most unreliable, lags, crashes, etc. If it works great for you, but it doesn't for me and apperently a lot of other people (iTunes reviews).

lol. chill man.

Yeah I know. But hiding is still better than nothing.

I'm not saying it's a "big huge OMG" deal. It's just something that I'd like to be able to do.

To some people those apps you listed are INTEGRAL to the phone, I'm included in that. I don't get how you have any legitimate excuse to leave a platform for a 10 mb app. Seriously? Lol have fun on android buddy! If you wanna talk waste of resources, explore the android world some. Just look at the specs of the phones and how they run.... Explains enough. Or even just look at how much RAM is used with their "efficient" hardware choices. You buddy, are a joke!

Btw google won't allow the free use of their most recent Android software without the inclusion of their personal software suite. On top of the apps your cell provider chooses. On top of whatever apps the manufacturers choose. So really I don't get your point. It holds nothing.

Your post goes from higher cognitive function to lizard brain in no time flat. Can that be considered literary devolution? The bolded portion of your comment makes complete sense, and I agree with it. I think the OP may have been engaging in a little hyperbole. But who knows. Apparently, he touched a nerve b/c you just went off on a wild tangent. Breathe in.

You're wrong about Google and Android. Anyone can fork Android. Amazon did; along with others. IF a vendor decides to do so, it can't use Google Play Services. As for the non-removable apps by telecoms and manufacturers, yeah, they are the equivalent of Apple's stock apps. Neither can be removed but both can be removed from sight. Either in a folder in iOS or in the app drawer in Android. No biggie. The only appreciable difference is one I hope Apple adopts soon. The ability to choose default apps. That would rock. Breathe out.

finally! Fullscreen photos when somebody calling you! http://cl.ly/image/160J3N3Q361j
(its my friend on the photo - but very old and bad because of Apple..) - I had to cover it (very poorly, sorry :D)..

Praise the lord Jesus Christ Tim Cook !!! A feature that every 10$ phone since Nokia 3360 had , is back in it's full glory !!! (This be the ultimate reason of why I despise my iOS 7.1.1 iphone)
Please tell me it's not appear only with facetime, but with regular call also!

Hasn't this been around for a while? I get a full-screen picture of my girlfriend every time she give me a call on iOS 7.1.1?

If this is true, tell me how is this sorcery done? Elaborate, please !
('cause, appearently, no one with ios 7.1 or 7.1.1. could make it be, except You)

A bit miffed at Apple making the podcast app compulsory. No app should be compulsory except the ones which are needed for the basic functions of the phone. If I wanted another one of Apple's apps, I'll download it. No need to force apps on to us, Apple!

It must be that the podcast app will have the tiny button that says "Buy" or "Subscribe for x.x $" in the corner. There is no other reasonable explanation.

Have you considered the possibility that whatever issues it has had will also be resolved? :p

I consider it with every update they make

And yet it still forgets my place when I return to a streamed episode (why download a podcast? let me stream!) and it still crashes every other day on an iPhone 5 and it still takes 2 or 3 tries to get visible search results and still doesn't have 15-second skip buttons in Control Center, only in app and on the lock screen. Miscellaneous bugs--sometimes different ones, but always bugs!

After iOS 8, I will select a 3rd-party podcast player. Whatever one best supports the new iOS 8 goodies. If Apple surprises me by removing that need, then great!

A) relaaaaaax.

B) no useful features? lol
