my only wish for iOS8 on ipad is something larger than 3x3 icons for the submenus. its such an appalling waste of screen real estate.

No and yes. You can't change the default web-browser, at least not in the current BETA. But Apple has made so third-party browsers can access and use the Nitro Javascript engine.

Thank you. Well that is a start :)

I used, long ago, to use "Perfect Browser" as it had an overlayed scroll bar so you could scroll up and down the whole long web site without the constant swiping, but it was such a pain whenever i clicked on a link in an email etc that Safari loaded up and not the browser of my choice.

I really wish Apple would let people pick their web browser.
I suspect they will in time, it's just a pain waiting years for them to do something they should of allowed on day one.

Again thanks :)

How about Safari blocks ALL ads???

Yep, lets just kill the entire web industry while we are at it.. How exactly are people providing you with free content on the web actually supposed to earn enough money to live?

Sometimes I feel people are so arrogant and ignorant that they deserve to get themselves a real wake-up call about how the world and the fundamental of living actually works.

Another default app that can't be deleted. Hurray!

First world problems

1. What seems useless to you might be essential to others and worthy of a default app status.

2. Put them in a folder and banish that folder to the last springboard page. You never need to see them again in your life. It's not like they take up a lot of space anyway.

Should we rename this thread?

... to the "Oh my god I don't listen to or watch podcasts, so I'm going into a fit of nerd rage because I can't delete an application that I won't use"?

Seriously, people... talk about the epitome of #firstworldproblems. How about some useful information on Beta 2 instead of all the whining and complaining?

#kthxbai.

For the photo under the heading "Notifications" in this article, why does the white background of the list items not reach the edges of the screen? Is that an iPad screenshot?

Unbelievable. This is the final straw. I'm switching to Android. I can't understand why Apple feels it needs to force such a stupid app on to everyone. Podcasts is such an integral experience to iOS that it needs to be a stock app? Really? Who listens to podcasts? Nobody cares. Just like Health, Newsstand, Stocks, Compass, Phone, iMessage, Maps, Passbook, Reminders, FaceTime, Safari, iBooks. No. One. Cares, Cupertino. Just amazes me why they can't put in actual useful features.

I have a feeling that you do not need a smartphone

The problem is that these apps take up space that you can never recover. Just to download beta 2 I needed to have 3gigs free on my iPhone 5S.

I would assume that since you're testing iOS 8 Beta 2, you're not filling your iPhone with all your media (music, videos, etc.) that you would typically have on your day-to-day phone. If you're having issues maintaining enough space to install the next version of the beta software, a 13 MB Podcasts app is the least of your concerns.

No Cell Coverage. 36%. Sprint. It figures.

Hopefully they get to merge with T-Mo and both can finally do something about their poor coverage.

for the podcast and ibooks apps to be included in this release, i would assume it would make sense for a developer standpoint, right now ios 8 is a beta and bundling all apple apps like ibooks and podcast together is a great way to beta test these apps on ios 8 until they are compatible and finally remove these apps on the GM release and release them as individual apps again.

I think it's funny that people are responding to this trolling post as though there was any level of sincerity involved with it... heh. Good job!

Yes, clearly nobody wants the Phone app, or iMessage, or Maps, or a web browser... hah :)

"I do... If I don't want it why should it be there?"

I'm not understanding the logic of people who make these comments. The app won't be there...if you don't buy the phone. Obviously, you will examine the phone, size, hardware, and software and other requirements and restrictions before purchasing. If you don't like, purchase a phone from a different company.

Unless you are Steve Jobs, nobody at Apple cares about statements like the one above.

"The phone should come without any apps.."

I'm paraphrasing the above statement from another poster, but how silly can you get. What app would you use to download the other apps that you do want? Also, do some of these posters not realize that not all people are as tech savvy as they are? Ugg.

I take offense to that characterization of my post, good sir. At one point or another members of our fine community have expressed their dismay that they couldn't remove any or all the aforementioned apps.

Not every one listens to podcasts or subscribes to digital newspapers or reads e-books or use digital gift cards and coupons. So I along with many other forum members are annoyed and confused as to why Apple would inherently include these culturally relevant apps as to define, shape, and convey what iOS is by default.

God, you guys complain about everything. Make a folder, put the Podcast app in the folder, and move on. A lot more people use it over people that don't. If you don't, hide it in a folder and move on.

I don't understand why 3 pages is wasted on endless tantrums on how things aren't going your way.

Yeah first world problems here. How difficult is it to stick these apps in a folder and then get on with your life. Sheesh.

Remember when Windows forced IE onto everyone? How is this not the same thing with iOS and Safari.

The DOJ alleged that Microsoft was abusing its monopoly power with desktop operating systems and thus would destroy the competition by bundling a browser, making it the default, and requiring the use of that browser in many cases.

Apple's market share in the US is less than 50% and falling. As for the rest of the world, their market share much smaller than 50%. There is plenty of competition, so its not an abuse of monopoly power.

You are saying they should not include any apps whatsoever?

Sure, we all use different apps and means of communication and I can agree with the fact that I don't use some default apps that often, but seeing that you even included the phone app there, I can only say that you can use an iPad (or any other tablet for that matter) and don't be bothered with bad Apple putting useless stuff on your phone.

EDIT: seems that I can't recognize a sarcastic post when I see one, oh well.
