Mine seems to be kinda terrible as well, this is my first charge...
But after realising that I have my brightness at 85% I know why it drains faster than usual compared to on 7.1.2

And also, my 5s has already ran through 200 charge cycles since I bought it on Feb

Yeah, mine drained down to 1%, hung there for a few minutes then died.

3 1/2 hours from full charge.

Phone is a 5, already a refurb and not eligible for battery recall.

Earlier today I had it plugged in in the car using gps and it drained down quite a bit WHILE plugged in to a known good charger. Over 2 amps capable on my charger, never a problem before.

I restored from backup, by the way. Going to let it charge uninterrupted to full and leave it on for awhile. If the problem sticks after this I'll reset all settings and then see what happens.

Battery has I think under 200 charge cycles and last I checked was still at 97-98% design capacity.

Certain apps are allowed to display in lock screen... try disabling that, see if that helps.

10% down after close to an hour of usage and over 8 hours of standby? That doesn't exactly seem terrible.

Haha, yeah not too shabby at all. What are you complaining about exactly?

For those installing GM on a phone with beta 5 on it, you need to install GM, erase the phone, then restore from backup or start as new, as mentioned in the GM release notes. Without the extra erase procedure, your phone will have the same crappy battery life and heating issues of beta 5.

I didn't do that or have those problems on beta 5, i find beta 5 performed slightly better then this GM version.

Your mileage will vary, I guess, based on what you have on your phone and how you use it. But generally, many people had issues with beta 5 battery life and heating, and those steps mentioned in the GM release notes did make a difference for me.

I installed the GM over 7.1.2 last night. I have continuity turned on and bluetooth on as well so it works with iPad. Overnight the battery drained 11% just sitting idle. That never happened in iOS 7 to me. Hopefully it goes back to normal, but if not I'll have to restore as new :(

i wonder if there are still some background tasks running - optimizing some stuff after the upgrade.

My iPod was draining but it has stopped. Been sitting at 55% for an hour now. The iPhone was also draining at 6% overnight but time will tell if it stops (usually drain was 1-2%)

Can't really tell on the iPad since the battery is too large

Went to bed with 91% after draining it to 0 and charging it full and woke up 7 hours later with 87%. Not bad, not great. But I've used it for about 25 min and now my battery's at 77%. Much worse than 7.1 was for me. It's draining like 1% every 2 min of screen on time. Gonna do a reset all settings and if that doesn't work I'll restore.

I installed the GM yesterday on my iPhone 5, the battery was draining quickly. I noticed that Mail was the culprit with the lion's share of battery use since installing the GM. I quit Mail from the multitasking screen, and rebooted the phone. Since then it's been doing pretty well. For example, today I'm at 51% remaining, 4hrs 30mins usage since last full charge (7hrs 55mins standby) - pretty much entirely listening to Music. Pretty much on a par with iOS 7...

8 hours of use and 22 standby on first charge. Equal to what i was getting on 7.1.2 with battery saving jailbreak tweaks. Impressed so far. 32gb 5S here.

FYI, those "battery saving" jailbreak tweaks really don't do anything.

Every phone has bad battery issues because this is the only technology available now, but it's definitely not bad at all on my iPhone 5. With my new battery replaced for free by Apple, I can charge it like every two days now :)

My battery life seems like it improved in GM, but I'll report back after I use my device for a few more days (iPhone 5S)

Installed iOS 8 GM over 7.1.2 on my 5s. Battery is good as it was before apart from when using Safari.

Using Safari on iOS 8 the phone gets very warm (as hot as a demanding game) and battery plummets quickly, lost 20% of the battery in 45mins of browsing on WiFi. Never happened on iOS 7.1.2.

I could browser for an hour with Safari on iOS 7.1.2 and only loose around 10%.

This doesn't happen with any other apps, using the feedly app and I can browse the web and watch videos and the phone stays cool and battery usage is extremely low, lost around 5% in 30mins.

I'm experiencing some great battery life, been on meetings almost all day so not so much time of use, mostly Tweetbot.

Use - 1 hour 15 minutes
Standby - 7 hours 15 minutes

Battery at 85%...

Some location services turned off, some apps with background sync turned on, 3G, Wifi and Bluetooth on.

With iOS 7 I never went to lunch with more than 60%, no matter the type of use.

Should I wipe my device, then restore to a backup? Before I was on the GM I had 7.1.2

I have the exact same issue with mail on iphone 5, its insane how much it drains.. I thought I fixed it yesterday by restoring from my backup instead of as new, but turned out the fetch sync was off, I turned it on this morning and did my normal browsing on my way to work, after 41 mins of standby and 35 min of usage I had 85% from a full charge ~ 1.5 hours earlier :/ I am not testing the official gmail app instead and have closed and stopped mail from syncing etc.

SmartClose does.

Not sure about that one, closing apps via the app switcher can actually hurt battery life because when iOS goes to refresh them it has to completely reopen the app as opposed to unfreezing it from it's suspended state which takes much less cpu power and time. I never force close an app unless it's acting up, iOS is extremely smart as freezing apps when not it use.
