Faster and more responsive? I have too an iPhone 5 and my experience with iOS 8 is quite different, sadly. Did a restore from iCloud backup.
Everyone who says 'iOS 8 runs just as well as 7.1.2' or anything similar simply isn't paying attention. It's absolutely not.

I've got the GM running on my iPad Air and iPhone 5s and its certainly not as smooth as iOS 7.1.2. Both devices were DFU mode restored via iTunes and set up as new phone.

I find that on iPad Air especially it's a little off in places, it's not as responsive with the likes of the keyboard in Safari (typing this right now is irritating) and the pinch to close gesture has noticeable delay.

The 5s is a better experience than the ipad Air but it still has some responsiveness issues compared to iOS 7.1.2 ... but then again iOS 7 was a dogs dinner until 7.1 so iOS 8 will no doubt improve with updates.

However I wouldn't call iOS 8 "unusable".

My 4S and my girlfriend's were unusable after upgrading on 8 GM from 7.1.2.
Once restored as new phones they're both working fine.
Clean install resolves.

iOS 8 GM itself seems fine for me. My problem is all the apps that haven't been updated for it yet. Like MLB At Bat and Apple's own WWDC, which both crash the instant you try to play a video.

There are so many glitches that I have to downgrade back to 7.1.2 on my 5S.
Anyone else having this issue?

Nope. It's been fine.

It isn't for YOU and SOME other people. It DOES run just as well as 7.1.2 on MY 5s and iPad 3. I absolutely pay attention. Don't insult people

Its a bit worrying if it runs terribly on a OTA upgrade... considering thats how the majority of users will upgrade...

Or it's actually running fine for them. The concept of people having different experiences can't be that foreign, can it?

Not sure if that will be the case. I simply updated my iOS 7 install and it's fine as have various others from different posts I've come across.

Were you on a 4S/iPad2/iPad3/iPod Touch 5?

I think it is a little worrying.... even if it happens to some people, its going to tick people off.

iPhone 5. There will always be some with issues especially with major .0 upgrades. 7.0 was fairly bad, but everyone survived and moved on. I'm not saying it's good or anything, but that it's not new or something that will end up resulting in anything major in the overall sense.

Same hardware, same software, different performance? I don't buy it.

Different experiences are certainly possible, for example the more critical you are the worse your experience will be.

Different configurations and use. Is it surprising that people with same cars and same TV sets and same computers have different problems with many not having any problems? Something that has been happening for a long time with many products and industries out there.

I too have the GM installed on my iPad air and the two biggest annoyances are the random keyboard lag as well as the weird delays when exiting an app. It often takes a second then the home screen and icons jump a bit. I remember this being around in 7.0 but you would think they would not repeat the same issues from last year. The pull down to reply is also laggy as hell. Really debating going back to 7.1.2 since two huge features like iCloud photo library and SMS relay won't even be ready till October.

Seems very unlike Apple to advertise features then not release them with new software. Why not just not release iPhones and iOS 8 till October? They could have still had the event regardless.

For not being usable I sure have been using it just fine for the past two days.

The only issue I've had that is a bit annoying is that occasionally I can't dismiss notification banners. It only seems to happen to banners from ONE app, though, Telegram. So I turned off banners for that app and since then, no issues.

I agree with every single letter you wrote :)

It runs laggy. Period.

Some people are not sensitive to slight drop in fps during animations. I am very sensitive to fps where I can notice difference.

It's exactly the situation where some gamers don't find a difference between 60fps and 30fps game but some gamers revolt if fps drop to 30. Same here. The animations on iOS 8 GM are dropping massive frames. Hence they appear stuttery/laggy to many people. That gives an illusion of iOS 8 being slower.

I am not trying to insult you. Consider this as a scientific explanation.

The level of effect of frame drops in games compared to occasional OS animations is rather drastically different though.

Nah. I've seen multiple iPhones, they all have had. Also checked phones of people who said 'they had no issues' but the problems really were there when I checked. Some people just can't tell, but everyone has it, trust me.

Best example is the notification center when opened from the lock screen, the FPS is clearly below 20. Every 4S and 5 (or 5c) has had this since iOS 7.1, yet almost nobody can tell.

FYI, if you ran the beta, you're supposed to erase the device after installing GM. There are glitches if you don't.

Yes you are right. I meant on the iPhone 5. iPad 3 is fine also. iPhone 5S not tested.

Exactly. Every iPad Air has jerky rotation animation in the App Store app, just as every iPhone 5 has lower than 60 fps when accessing cc from the lock screen. Every iPhone 5 has the same OS, every one (if it's the same version obviously). And a user cannot screw something up or tweek things like he can in windows for ex.(unless jailbroken). This isn't about some app draining the battery or whatever, this is core iOS and everyone running that version on the same phone will have the same animation smoothness and speed (again, unless jail broken).

A video that cherrypicks one aspect of one app with dramatic slowdown does not make the entire OS slow. iOS 8 runs almost perfectly on my iPad air. That video is equivalent to lighting a candle and screaming like your whole house is on fire.

I noticed the laggy control center on 7.1, and it's fixed on my iPhone 5 with iOS 8. It's buttery smooth now. FPS fluctuations bug me to no end, which is why I'm happy with iOS 8- almost no stutter on my phone whatsoever. Opening a folder after rebooting causes some stutter, and sometimes loading heavy apps takes a tad bit longer than it did on iOS 7. Other than that, it's great.

If you want FPS problems, try opening apps on the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3. If you opened an app that was located on a screen with all the rows filled, the animation would give you about five total frames if you were lucky. Thankfully it was fixed in iOS 5.

If you really want FPS problems, try iOS 4 on an iPhone 3G. Now that was PAINFULL.

Don't have that problem. Period. That would be unacceptable to me.
