Where is Fitbit...?

Fitbit hasn't updated for iOS 8 or Healthkit yet. There is a thread on the Fitbit forums where you can "vote" for this feature. It's been reviewed, but not yet listed as in progress or implemented. No official word from Fitbit or the forum mods as to when (or if) this will be coming.

If you use the fitbit functionality of the 5s motion co processor then adding steps to health kit dash board will show you the exact same number of steps.

Yeah, thats a massive screwup on their side.
I'd be even more pi**ed if I had lost months of data because of them.
(Which raises the question about data-integrity in HealthKit anyway..)

A third party developer application can add and remove data but it has to ask for permission for read and write access. Data is also segregated by application. If you go into data for an app you can opt to delete individual or all data for that app from the edit menu.

During development I regularly cleared out data and reimported. so much so that i added the option to reimport everything in my app in case anyone else needed to. Health kit is just a protected database nothing more.

.

I knew that, but since youve done an app for HK, how is this handled anyway? So Apps do have read permissions on other apps data, but are they also allowed to delete or modify data they didnt put in themselves?

The Panera implementation is nice to see, really looking forward to other restaurants adding it in the future.

You can read data in health book (its called sharing to health book when you save to it). This requires permission that is separate from writing. Data written is marked by application and there is anti duplication code in health book for certain data types. I believe you can't modify data from another app but I haven't tested it.

That's great, but I want it to pull in sleep analysis, calories, etc. from the Fitbit app.

It seems that Steps taken and total distance ran/walked is about the only stat that Healthkit can accurately display. Then it only displays that at random times. For most of the day all the data just clears itself out and comes back randomly at some point.

All the numbers it pulls from MyFitness Pal are horribly inaccurate or erase themselves at different points throughout the day.

So far Healthkit is a buggy mess and that's hard to say about something coming from Apple.

MFP was updated today, with supposed fixes for HealthKit integration.

I downloaded the update a bit ago, and it doesn't look retroactive, but we'll see how it looks in a day or two.

Health stopped recording steps last night for me, anyone else have this issue?

Just emailed Jawbone support about health kit support for UP Coffee. Their response:

"Hi there, awests!

Thank you very much for writing in with this question. At this time, it is not known on whether or not we will be including UP coffee to be compatible with HealthKit.

I've passed your thoughts along to our product development team for review and consideration.

Please continue to share suggestions with us in the future. You can simply reply here, or give us a call at 1-800-JAWBONE. We're always eager to know what customers want and need in our products.

Abvio Walkmeter 10.3 did indeed come out today, the description says "Now supports iOS8 and iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus!" It then goes on to talk about notification center widgets. But no mention of HealthKit - neither there or in the app.

Not sure what "extensive support for HealthKit" means then...help?

Exact e-mail below:

Hello Sir,

Thanks for asking about our iOS 8 plans. We have submitted our 10.3 version to Apple, and we expect it to be approved any day now. It includes extensive support for HealthKit, as well as the ability to start/stop/lap and see stats from the lock screen in Notification Center. It also supports iPhone 6/6+ with their larger screens. And finally, we converted the whole app to be 64-bit, so it should run more efficiently on the iPhone 5S, 6, and 6+. We hope you like it!

I hope this sets your mind at ease about the future of Runmeter and iOS 8!

Please feel free to let us know if you have other questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Ronni Taylor
