yup. it's pretty bad. the entire iphone launch was a nightmare. my friends were telling me that when the apple store opened in the morning, buddy in the blue shirt came out and they eventually got out of him that they had 20 iphone 6 plus's in stock meanwhile there were about 200 people lined up. lol. disaster. carriers weren't much different.

Sheesh I'm like one of the worst Apple critics on this board. I get kicked off of here constantly and will eventually be banned probably, but I think iOS8 is pretty good so far and runs well even on my iPod5. I'm pleased as pie about being able to swipe this reply with Swype. I expect by 8.03 or so it will be as solid as 7.1.2 and in the meantime I just have minor annoyance bugs related mostly to the new functionality. If nothing else battery life hasn't been destroyed unlike the true disaster that was 7.06 lol!!!

how is that iOS related?

It's really annoying how buggy iOS 8 is; it does not "feel" finished at all. Also, it's totally marring the new iPhone enjoyment with all these bugs. I wish I could install iOS 7 on my iPhone 6, or the next update be released yesterday that will fix everything.

I think Apples high standards are starting to slip, same thing happened in iOS7, they pushed it out, full of bugs just to get it out there, they then used the rest of the updates to fix the bugs. I'm coming from Windows Phone, they didn't do this, when they pushed an update for the most part it worked.

How quickly people forget the early days and even not so early days of iOS 7.0.

A disaster? The people that post these, do they not see the pattern? EVERY iOS (and even OSX) release, sees people popping up threads ranging from XXX sucks/is the best/Steve Jobs must be spinning in his grave/would be so proud etc etc...

Surely people must realise that with every release, there are those who are happy/dissatisfied /disappointed /impressed - and it makes zero difference, either ways, until the next release?

What gets me is how people can be so... adamant. The extremes of disaster/amazing - is there never any middle ground?

Why did I even post this. Not like it's going to make a difference. Grabs coat - heads out the door.

It would be nice if Apple took a few billion and hired some proper software engineers and overhauled iOS because Jony Ive has made a mess of things. You would think iOS 7 was borderline bad with some poor design choices and iOS 8 is just piling on. I refuse to update any of my iPad's that are running on iOS 7.

Too bad Forstall isn't allowed back. He probably hung the picture of Nelson saying:

This

Completly agree
It is amazing how they ****ed up iOS 7

I upgraded to iOS 8 on my 4s on the 17th at 11pm.
4am I wake up in the dark, scrambling to my laptop and restoring my phone. I updated my iPod though, only use that for media.

That doesn't seem so much a bug as it is simply a missing feature. Maybe iCloud drive will let you work around that? As it is, there are 3rd party browsers which do allow this, so...

It's a feature .. Was released with ios 6.. But it's broken in ios 8 .. That's what he means

----------

It's very buggy.. Even though it runs smooth on the 4S.. I Find it convincing 90% of the ram.. Ios 7 used 80% .. The battery drain is hidious! The percentage drops every minute of im using the phone!! Atleast 6-8% in 10-20 min!!! That's bad really bad ... There are unexpected crashes with many apps also..

I have nothing to contribute here. iOS 8 isn't a disaster - to me.

So many drama queens in this thread.

I would tend to agree. I've noticed no change in anything I do. Phone works as it always did, no problems and very smooth. Absolute only change is I type faster with the new predictive type feature.

I agree this is the worst iOS release in history, all the main features missing/not working as already stated, but there's lots of little things which don't woek either.
Such as the new share sheets - I drag an app icon to the front of the list (as its used often), and next time I start the SAME app, the share sheet has just defaulted back to normal.
Did nothing get tested in this release? It's like they just banged it out in a hurry cause they were too busy making silly watches that aren't waterproof!

IOS 7 was a mess when it was released and took a few updates to get right, IOS8 seems the same for some. "Ive" no idea what those two releases have in common. :p

Honestly though Apple seem to be trying to add a ton of features with both of these releases that probably cause more issues than their previous Keep It Simple stance in previous releases.

Expectations....

Upgraded to 8 immediately. I usually hold off a bit.

I have found that everything works exactly like I'm used to. Predictive typing is only thing that affects me differently. And that's a positive.

Otherwise, everything I've always done continues to work smoothly as it always did.

Very happy with smooth update. And I can tell you I've criticized apple a lot over the years having lived through the whole G5 batch of unreliable junk and fire hazards.

Not to mention never having been a fan of their delicate pretty shiny stuff that scratched if you dared to touch it before applying a protective film.

But ios 8? I have nothing to complain about. You want a disaster? Go back in time and buy an iMac G5. Ios 8 is hardly a disaster.

It's not a disaster, but basically half of the year you are stuck using beta software which they fix with .1 release. Just like iOS 7 started feeling like normal software after .1 release.

They must switch to 14-15 months timeframe. Granted it will not solve all bug problems, but it won't be that bad. Also you can release new phone without releasing new IOS version.

Simple bug. While you read this post tap the search forum field, so that you have keyboard on screen. Now tap the share button in safari in the top right corner. See something?

So far, my experience with iOS 8, both on an iPhone 5s and an iPad Mini Retina, have been great. Nothing has crashed or frozen up. Everything I've done with it so far has worked as expected.

As with any mass deployment of software, there are always bound to be glitches for some people while, many, arguably, the majority of people have good experiences.

It doesn't mean because some had or are having a bad experience that the company and the OS are bad, incompetent or don't know what they're doing. There could be any number of reasons for poor performance, from user error, corrupt data being transferred from older versions, hardware problems or anything else.
