My iPad is 2.5 years old now, I genuinely think I'll move to the surface pro 3 if MS make as bigger jump from the pro 1 to 2. The iPad is just too limited for what I need (as a business professional)

Also, I see people have installed OSX onto the surface, so dual booting between windows and OSX is perfect for me.

I have heard this sentiment expressed several times not just about iPad but, tablets in general. While I find android to be anti-intuitive which is a hindrance to productivity, iOS is very powerful and intuitive. What exactly do you want to do with your iPad that you can't do right now? I am just curious cause I use my iPad for almost everything and my laptop sits on my desk simply as a hub for my files that I mostly access with the iPad.

I'm right there with you - I use my iPad CONSTANTLY. My MBA comes out when I need to take a test for school and it requires Excel with add-ins or something.

My iPad is my go-to for generally everything I do, my MBA is the specialized device that is used for very specific tasks. And my poor old iMac sits in the corner relegated to little more than a media hub for my AppleTVs! haha

Frankly, the iPad is alot of wasted screen space. This is a welcome (and overdue) addition.

There is a solution for this problem: buy another iPad.

As long as you pay for my second iPad, why not?

All joking aside, manufacturers clearly would love it if consumers would just buy a second, but that's not a real-world solution for everybody.

I'm personally just waiting for Apple to declare my iPad 2 officially dead by refusing to let iOS 8 run on it - I have no plan to upgrade yet, but apparently I'll have to as apps will gradually force me to have the latest version of the OS.

it's not like 4 finger swipe is difficult really.

I dunno. Maybe I just need to use it a bit more, but it never felt quite right. Kinda seems to lag a little bit; there is a pause before you can use the app you switch to and it always throws me off.

I generally prefer to use the app switcher, even if I'm only "moving over" one app. The transition seems to account for the moments spent loading the app, such that the "lag" becomes less (barely) noticeable.

I'll tell you one use I see for this... I'd love to have the Google Now app always open so I could always see things relevant to me while I'm browsing. Almost like having a widget. I could see a screen of about 80% Safari, 20% Google being the only thing I ever see.

With mates like them, who needs enemies....haha but seriously - why would you let them touch your iPad?

Buy a cheap refurb off the Apple store if you like handing out your iPad so much.

I just leave it out on the table on a Friday night for playing music and watching random YT clips when we all have a gathering each week, whether that be at my house or one of theirs. It'd just be nice to have some peace of mind for a change haha.

Although my Mrs also uses it too and she's always bookmarking hundreds of web pages and other such annoyances. Multi-user support would be helpful for so many reasons, and truth be told iDevices are in the minority, pretty much everything else has it now. Fridges will be next :p

One can only hope we continue to see more powerful apps.

Three words: Refurbished Apple Store. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

Might make something more affordable. I check that site constantly.

Bout time. This should have happened well over 2 iOS versions ago.

...And magically, the concept of split-screen multitasking won't be too much of a complex thing for Apple fanatics.

iPad mini for $249 on the refurb store. Pretty cheap solution. Then your Mrs. will have her own and your pals can jack hers up haha.

I think it has something to do with the A7 and 64-bit arch....until we see what Apple is releasing, I'm not just going to assume it works exactly like other iterations (Microsoft, Samsung).

How many apps can you actually put into split screen on a Samsung device? Isn't it pretty much only the defaults? And who uses default Samsung apps when they can customize their Android device? ;)

Buy a 13-inch MBP, you whiner.

Not enough RAM for this on the Air. It's barely inching by with occasional hiccups now.

Going to be crashing left and right.

Air 2 better leap to 4GB.

OS window management and multitasking are two big ways Apple is playing catch up.

I have been using BetterTouchTool on OS for snapping since inception, cant imagine working without it.

Side-by-side will be great on iPads, assuming they are sufficiently powered to handle it smoothly.

As long as Apple will have to get developers to create new screen resolutions for the increased size iPhone, they may as well have them add support for this at the same time. Wouldn't developers have to create new views for their apps if they were displayed side by side in landscape mode? Or maybe Apple will come up with some other scaling tricks that will aid support for these multiple resolutions? I would expect all of this to be revealed at WWDC to give developers time to adapt apps before release of iOS8.

 Please. 2 apps open simultaneously does not require 4GB RAM....

I'm thinking we'll see some more Apple "magic" in how this feature is implemented. Will likely be highly optimized and regulated with respect to how its put into 3rd party apps.

My Galaxy S5 has that feature. I've never used it. I played with it once and then disabled it.

Yep my S4 can do it too. Same story.

But it's much more useful on a tablet with the space to take advantage of - e.g. watching a show top half and surfing on the bottom.

Basically for 10" tablets, it is useful.

I know it's hard to believe but with the jailbreak tweak 'os experience', my iPad air can handle 3+ apps simultaneously (have not tried games) split screen, similar to how it is described in this article

It runs quite well, including with every 3rd party app I've tried.

How silly of me, yeah, just buy another one.... Or I may aswell buy another 20 iPads for all my friends and family while I'm at it.

Err, no.

I don't want to spend another £209 TYVM. One device is enough, it would just be loads better with multi-user login which can easily be implemented with a free software update.
