 The concept of intellectual property has existed since the early 1700s (earlier?). The term itself has been used since sometime in the 1800s if I remember correctly.

I think the poster is confusing "intellectual property" with "software patents as we know them today".

The decisions that enabled the sort of software patents we see today were made in the 90s, with quite a bit of legal argument in the background during the decades leading up to it, where software by itself wasn't considered patentable.

Why are there so many Android fanboys posting negative comments about how Apple copied these new features from Android? Are you all that miserable that you can't be happy for people who are excited about iOS 8? Stop trolling. We know Android has had these features. I have multiple Android devices but I'm excited Apple provided the consumers with new features. If you don't like what Apple is doing, why are you on this forum? It's getting ridiculous.

They're just mad that's we implemented it better. That's why they bring up the "we did it first" argument ;)

iOS 8 looks really good. Better than many people thought including myself. I wouldn't be surprised to see that the iPhone6 has features nobody has talked about

BEFORE:

Multiple keyboards, WHY!? Apple's keyboard is perfect, Swipe is useless!

Widgets? What for? You can just go into the app, they waste battery!

AFTER:

OMG, multiple keyboards is fantastic! That Swipe thing is amazing!

I always said Widgets are awesome and necessary! I'm glad Apple finally invented them in iOS.

Before: Multi-tasking? It only drains battery! You don't need split-screen in a small tablet.
Resizable widgets/live tiles? What a mess! Who needs widgets? All you have to do is open the apps!

Rumor of Multi-task and widget: OMG! I can't wait! A true innovation! It's gonna make things much easier!

After WWDC:Multi-tasking? It only drains battery! You don't need split-screen in a small tablet.

thats a given. every new iphone got at least 1 feature the old phones didn't.

can't wait to see what it will be this time.

So what exactly was iPhone first in?
If I were to decide on a buying a Nexus 6 or iPhone 6, I should take into account which OS provided third party keyboards earlier? No, ofcourse not. I could not care less. The only thing that matters is how it works, not who's first.

Why does it matter? If they [Apple] were first. If they were last. If they were in the middle. Who cares? If you are to say it sucks for X reasons, then that's fine. That's your opinion.

iOS 8 is amazing:)

I didn't ask you the question. I asked the guy I replied to because he claimed that Apple has both 'first' and 'better'.

I'm an enterprise user and in sales. Two to three years ago I made a request to have free/busy information for other people's calendars when making meetings. I'm happy to see it finally implemented.

That is enough to make me appreciate the upgrade. Given that they probably had much of this in motion 6-8 months ago, it was a pretty quick implementation. I'm very happy.

Can you do that on other phones? Likely WinMo, but others?

That was me. I was talking about a working concept of a multi-touch smartphone.
1. When iPhone was presented, Android wasn't even thought to be on touch screen devices.
2. Until late 2010 everyone could agree that in no way the competition had yet catches up with Apple.
3. Well, I just said that because in the following years from then to now, Apple did "copy" features from android, but implemented them so they were way easier to use.

The original iPhone came first, so fandroids can only say "Ugh, I don't care if we copied everything from the app icons to the dock to the form and function, but WE HAD 3RD PARTY KEYBOARDS FIRST!!!11"
Although you're right, it doesn't matter in terms of usability. I just noticed this could be some kind of big discussion as soon as iOS and Android are put against each other again ;)

This is the release that is making me get rid of my Nexus 5 for an iPhone.

That's great. It's actually what Apple needs. More people to switch over from other platforms to iOS. I feel like the more and more they refine iOS 7 in the later version the more they'll be able to capture the market share. Or so, that's their hope atleast.

So basically what you are saying is Apple was first in nothing..

Oh, and who cares? I thought a lot of you here at MR cares who was first. Just look at the thread on finger print scanner and sapphire glass among many others. And I thought someone declared thermonuclear war for copying.

Is the predictive keyboard only on iPhone ios 8 beta 1?
I don't see any difference on my keyboard on iPad Air

Press and hold the alt kb button and a menu should pop up with predictive keyboard as On or off.

I'm sure people do care. In all fairness Apple didn't incorporate the first finger print scanner. I think the Nokia N95 or the Nokia N series had them way back when. I'm purely focusing on their execution and their style. I feel like it's pretty dumbed down which is why it's more on how good it is vs. who did it first.
