iOS 8 is what iOS 7 should have been. It'll be iOS 9 before we start seeing all these new dev tools make its way to apps. iOS 8 is just a developer groundwork update. Just like iOS 7 was visual update.

Something tells me by the time we get to iOS 10, or iOS X, we'll see a merger between iOS and OS X.

I must say it is pretty damn good for a beta 1, actually the last 3 versions of IOS 6/7/8 have been pretty damn solid in all beta forms right from the start.

Very polished already and pretty damn smooth i must say

A quick question actually. Have previous bugs from iOS 7 been ironed out? Also how are the features? Please give your comment on Quick reply and typing :)

Maybe I'm just old and jaded, but 'mind blown' does not describe my reaction. I am excited to see continuity in action, but nothing else really matters to me.

Mind blown would've been the side by side multitasking windows that were rumored.

I don't care who copies who. I only care about who does it better. Samsung, Google, and Apple, have all copied one another. It doesn't even matter, and I don't know why people bring it up.

Finally someone said it right. Before software patents all programmers copied from each other and no one thought anything of it. Microsoft screwed everything up with software patents.

People bring it up because Apple suing companies for copying them.

Looks like a pretty solid update to me, I have some friends that switched to iOS from Android and they love it but they missed using the Swype keyboard so I think Apple allowing custom keyboards is a great move. I do wonder if maybe Apple should start doing yearly point upgrades, this could have been iOS 7.5

unless there's some type of critical bug, I don't see how I can go back to 7. this is a tremendous upgrade.

also it's clear this update was designed with bigger displays in mind.

Am I cynical or I'm sure someone's already mentioned,'new features are just "borrowed" from (other I won't mention) apps and OS's lol all I care about really is "fall" (whenever that is: September I reckon) to see polished up iOS 8 running on a bigger yet to be announced iPhone.

Agreed, they all watch and leapfrog each other. Now everyone don't bother my while I have a Mr. Pibb and Hydrox. Except Hydrox was the original and Oreo was the knock-off. Same with these silly technical arguments: They don't matter.

This is right. Well regardless of who did it first, I feel like the way Apple implements it on their devices is awesome. Yes, they're not first but who cares. I can't wait to get my hands on iOS 8 (just 4 more months) :(

not many groundbreaking new features with ios here. theyve been slowly incorporating what the jailbreakers have added to the system after the fact into their official releases

A lot of those are more than good enough for people who don't want to or can't jailbreak to like iOS 8 for bringing these types of options forward. Although I'd have to say that the whole continuity thing between devices is at least along the lines of groundbreaking.

Classic Android fan. Brags about features added in the latest Android OS.. that only 9% of their users actually have. ;)

Jailbreakers will always be ahead. They take things that weren't added in the latest iOS and they add it. No matter what Apple adds, they'll add new things right after.

Exactly. It's amazing how fluid the integration is. Even the fact that you can pick up your calls and SMS from your Mac/iPad? C'mon. That's unreal. Mind is blown indeed, for myself at least .

You must have missed the part where your phone can essentially become a message and distribute all of your messages (text or iMessage) to all of your iOS devices and allow you to reply back on any device without needing to pick up you phone.
This will be huge for college students in class and workers using Macs because they can reply or send messages without needing to fiddle with their phones.

Also, the set up your iPhone as a phone server is pretty cool tool. Forwarding your call to you Mac and letting you and answer or start a call there. Thats pretty sweet. I didn't catch if that would work on an iPad or iPod touch or not, but even if not still pretty awesome.

This is groundbreaking, something that NOONE has done yet.
Yes, some of the little things like quick reply or tablet panoramas have been done before and Apple is adding that functionality in as a "catch up" but this is the "message and phone server" feature is groundbreaking and something that really only MS could copy since Google doesn't have an OS to copy it to.

I often wonder why Android fans troll around apple site. Just to post things about Apple fans??? You guys are pathetic. It's a new release and of course apple fans are going to be excited about it. So fu?!ing what if android has had it. Why be a ***** and post something with no relevance.

Quick Reply is great, it's what we've always wanted (well, it's what I've always wanted). The only bad thing is that you MUST have preview messages ON, if not, how can you reply without not knowing what the message says?

Typing is faster, QuickType is also great, must faster.

The reason Apple is behind Android on somethings is simple, security. Why do you think Android is such a malware magnet and iOS isn't, just chance? Apple puts security 1st and foremost. Until they figure out how to do it securely they don't do it. The same can not be said for Google. The only thing Google cares about is your data!

To be fair, they are a software company and they are protecting their intellectual property. ;)

You do realize that the concept of intellectual property did not even exist until the mid 1990's. I was there, I played a part in it, and I remain appalled to this day as to what happened. It made me switch careers.

 The concept of intellectual property has existed since the early 1700s (earlier?). The term itself has been used since sometime in the 1800s if I remember correctly.
