You do realize that the concept of intellectual property did not even exist until the mid 1990's. I was there, I played a part in it, and I remain appalled to this day as to what happened. It made me switch careers.

I'm sorry that you feel hurt by that, but as a programmer, if I create something that works in a very specific way and nobody has ever done it, I want my creation to be protected from replication. As a corporation, they have every right to ensure that their property is not taken and reproduced. You may not agree with it but it is law and it goes further back much further than the 1990's. We have been doing it for years with music, art and literature. This is not a new concept and has been in business for hundreds of years.

Oh, I was there as well as it happened and helped usher it in. I have been working with computers since the 80's and helped to digitize aircraft log books in the Army in 1992.

Anyway, the point I was making is that they still have a right to protect their products. If you created something, you would want to protect it as well.

It's definitely the best implementation of predictive typing I've used. I couple bugs, but they'll get fixed. Can't wait to see what keyboards people come up with.

Then you also remember that programming was mostly a paid for production type job, same as plumbing. I grant you that it is better for the programmers and the companies that own the IP - but whether it was better for everyone is certainly debatable. Certainly all of the millions of people in the free software movement disagree with your position. I also agree that the roots of IP extend way back, but the way we feel about IP today was an intellectual curiosity in the higher echelons of rarified law schools - and in the mind of Larry Ellison - until coded into law in the mid 90s. And it all happened with zero public debate.

nike fuel band

its working now!

is anyone else having a issue syncing there fuel band with the iOS app via bluetooth?
you would think this app would not be broken with the update:confused:

I like how some people think features are "the same" across Android and iOS, just because they have a similar name, or similar purpose.

Quick Reply is great, it's what we've always wanted (well, it's what I've always wanted). The only bad thing is that you MUST have preview messages ON, if not, how can you reply without not knowing what the message says?

Typing is faster, QuickType is also great, must faster.

I'm looking forward to this! Well, it makes sense. With preview off you can't possibly reply to a message without knowing what it says. How is iCloud drive, what do you think? Also - what are the pricing plans? It seems like it was $3.99 for 200GB. How much is 1TB?

Apple has not yet announced pricing beyond 200GB so we'll have to see.

I don't have OS X 10.10 installed yet so not sure how iCloud Drive performs.

It is debatable for sure, and although I understand your backing of that movement, I certainly don't openly support it. I believe that people should be paid for their talent. That being said, if someone wants to donate or give away their time, then they are free to do so. I have participated in a few open source projects and I don't see that time as wasted. However, free does not put food on my table and if I created something new, I am going to capitalize on it the best way I can.

As for IP, no it goes way back and I can remember in the early 80s when companies were trying to come up with ways to stop duplication of VHS and tape cassettes. IP's roots go back way back and from the little research I just did Wikipedia stated it as roots in the 1800's.

All that being said, we have skewed a little off topic. I respect your position on this, but I simply disagree. Microsoft is doing what needed to be done to survive. You may not like it, but there would be no company without it. Also, you bash MS, but what about Apple? They have the same IP practices in place. They protect what they created with fervor. Aren't they the same?

Maybe I'm just old and jaded, but 'mind blown' does not describe my reaction. I am excited to see continuity in action, but nothing else really matters to me.

Mind blown would've been the side by side multitasking windows that were rumored.

I don't get how split screen is mind-blowing.....I think it'll happen (8.1), and that's great. But I don't even split screen on a laptop let alone a phone or tablet.

I think Continuity features, the messaging updates (THANK YOU for letting me out of group messages.....), and DEFINITELY the dev tools and APIs are pretty awesome.

I think we'll see a lot of mind blowing applications being released in the coming months utilizing some of these tools (metal, swift).

Why? Docs (as are other files) are saved automatically and synced across all devices via iCloud.

And with iCloud Drive, it looks like you'll have those traditional "file folders" that sync across all devices including the Mac.

I am disappointed we didn't see more robust attachment changes. I'm still holding out hope that iCloud Drive will be an option for attachments and you'll be able to select multiple files to send.

After a day's full use its really mind blowing the updated photo app is one of my favourites. The Ability to hide twitter, Facebook from showing in photo sharing and even customisable. Keyboard is awesome, quick reply is great only downfall that anyone who has access to your phone can do a quick reply (this I hope APPLE will allow some settings to allow customise groups or favourites you can select to allow quick reply or even better using touchID to allow quick reply from lock screen.
Updated mail is also great and I love all the new features so far.

Again, not the first in everything but one of the best implementation - that is what I expected and that is what I got from Apple...

lol. I love it when people say absurd things like this and immediately discredit themselves.

Installed iOS 8 B1 on my work phone (iPhone 5c) today. Initial impressions:

  • Battery life is great.
  • It's a beta, so there are some bugs that affect usability, but for a B1 it's incredibly stable.
  • Looks mostly like iOS 7.
  • The new keyboard is growing on me.

The real magic with iOS 8 is how it will interface and complement OS X Yosemite (this is going to be a huge driver of Mac sales I think), and how developers implement the new APIs.

It's insane how they've made integration for existing and those who will get into iOS/Mac so simple now. I can't wait to see the future of Apple after this. Tim is doing a great job. Keep it up Timmy [hope this isn't bait for Tim haters].
