And exactly how does that affect it's functionality? Are you unable to see 'flat' icons?

I must be missing the boat since I buy Apple products for what they do, not how pretty they look.

I'm just saying i don't like the way it looks, i never said i had a problem with the way it preforms. But according to you, you would be okay being with a girl like precious just as much as a girl like kate upton because they both have the same functionality, to get you off. do i have that right? since you get stuff for what they do not how pretty they look?

What's up with the different location of the "Slide to unlock" text in the screenshots?

I remember this from last year...

Sure it's advertising; you walk by Starbucks and you see the little icon pop up, you might not have been thinking of getting a coffee but your phone just planted the idea in your head. Now who's in charge?

I think it relies on you having the app and enabling this function.

You would therefore be able to not download the app at all. Or just choose to use it as it currently works on iOS 7.

Personally I see this as something that benefits the consumer more than seeing it as obtrusive advertising.

Doesn't seem to work for me. I stills see the old passbook style notification

launch apps by voice

Seems like iOs is beginning to suffer from featuritis.

That said, a feature that is quite useful but we won't get will be voice launching of apps. That would be quite useful without having to scroll thru windows to find apps or to bring an app to foreground that is already running in the background.

We do have that already? I will often use "Open Pandora" while in the car.

I definitely would LOVE this feature! Mainly for the Apple store though. I frequently go in there to talk to a genius. I already have an appointment and I always sign in using the app when I first walk in. Currently, I just walk in, turn on my phone, swipe to unlock, swipe to the right 4 times and open the app. That is 4 swipes, a tap, and a button press. This method will remove the 4 swipes from the equation. It is a very small enhancement to my life, but that is why I love Apple: they think of the little things.

The only drawback I see is battery life. If this works with iBeacons as well as GPS, it would be nice if there was a toggle setting to only use this feature with iBeacons. I think that feature would speed up the adoption of iBeacons.

Yes, you're right we can use Siri to do that but one has to push the home button or bring the phone close to the ear. It would be nice to simply launch it by without even touching, say when one's driving in traffic. Guess I feel more strongly about hands free voice launch option since I drive a manual transmission.

"Hey Siri, open Pandora"

This would not be a new change/bug in iOS 8. In the current version of iOS 7, the "side to unlock" text moves if you have notifications pending. It's not immediately obvious, but the image on the left from the original post has blurred out some notifications that are not present on the right. See my phone for reference (iPhone 5 running 7.1.1):

"Mistery" solved, thanks! :)

Has anyone tried going into a movie theater yet? Does it automatically disable your camera?

Hah, good one!
In that case, let me open Settings App...

This wouldn't be a very useful anti-piracy measure and only annoy the legit customers.
I don't think Apple wants that backslash.

In iOS 8, yes. If your phone is powered.
Can you turn that feature off though?
I'd find it a waste of battery (travel battery).

Glassed Silver:mac

Gotta say, one thing Apple should do is get rid of those dots and go back to the small vertical lines. It takes up too much space and also get rid of the network name up there too. You know what network you are on. It takes up too much space as well.
Now i say that so you can see notification icons better and get more of them but i dont know if iOS allows that many as Android does. I just think it is ridiculous to have the network name up there.

Network name is needed, you don't always know what Network you are on.

I would like Candy Crush to show up when I go into the bathroom....now that would be helpful

This has been supported for ages now.. ask siri to "open" any app or "play" any game.

Handy dandy stuff, but i only use Location services for app i need.

I can't see myself using this.

I like the idea of it, but the tin foil hat side of me worries about the location watching part of it. But i guess we're doing that anyway with so many other apps, like maps and weather.

No, actually we don't always know what network we're on. If you're traveling with an international SIM, you can see it change as you hop from country to country. With a local SIM with international roaming turned on, you can see when this occurs and when you're going to be gouged. Locally, there's the issue of whether you're connecting directly to your carrier or Microcell.

For some of us, these are useful reasons, which is why I've kept mine displayed even though I could remove it (since I'm jailbroken).
