Does anybody know if it's possible to get a refund 2 moths after buying it? I kind of lost faith in the 'Pro' thing. My iPad Mini 4 will suffice for basic stuff, I can wait augmenting to a 'Pro' usage when Apple is ready, not worth $1000 to be their guinea pig. Going to Genius Bar today to hopefully get a replacement (who knows how many more days I'll have to wait).
My replacement came within a day even though they quoted me 3-5 days.

I don't understand Apple these days. They obviously didn't check something properly and now it is costing them lots of money in tech support cost and retail device replacements.

I have to wonder if this slip in quality is because of the release date schedule. Before things were just released "when they are ready". Now it seems like updates come out for all the products..iOS, Mac, Apple TV, WatchOS all on the same day. They are all different products though. I find it hard to believe that they all have the same development cycle.

They will have to step up their reliability game before they release the Apple Car. Could you imagine THOSE getting bricked? "I'm sorry sir, please try plugging you car into iTunes". "I can't it's stuck in the desert". "Oh, well in that case hold tight, and we'll ship another one to you in 3-5 business days". Yeah...that's not going to fly.

They've got the $$$ so what. Screw it.

What bugs are you referring to? I remember both of these pretty well, and don't remember ANY ongoing problems with either OS. In fact, I NEVER had to do an OS reinstall on any version of Mac OS X right up to Snow Leopard in the ENTIRE time of owning three Macs (with always two owned at once, and a total of 23 years of computer use when added together). Reinstalls started with Mac OS Lion, which has been called "The Vista of OS X," and have continued ever since.
There were many issues with Snow Leopard some of which I experience everytime I used my Mom's MacBook:
  • Snow Leopard users have reported that they've lost all their personal data when they've logged into a "Guest" account after upgrading from Leopard. This bug was supposedly fixed in 10.6.1 however I happened to experience this issue after that fact. I lost over 200 GB of music and unfortunately the music library I have today is still a little bit light on songs because they are not on iTunes.
  • Graphical Kexts for Intel GMA X1300 models were beta'd in 10.6.2 and had hiccups with 64 bit issues that result in artifacts to many animation and apps. This is some cases caused complete WindowServer crashes prevent the Mac to stay logged on for more than a few minutes. They were replace with their 32 bit counterparts in 10.6.3 however my development team today relies heavy on their failed extensions to bring OS X 10.8 and newer to these unsupported macs.
  • An annoying issue for a while, left each user with a prompt to decide if they should keep the network copy or the local copy of the iPhoto library even though neither has changed. This results in duplicate iPhoto Libraries being created as each user logs in and out
  • Disk Utility from the beginning and is today complete garbage. Images I restored including other versions of OS X become corrupted in completion or cause errors interrupting the progress.
  • Internet sharing broken. Had many adult Mac users at the time asking me if I could fix it but I was tech savvy then. Upgrading to Lion or downgrading to Leopard fixed the issue.
  • Quite a few security exploits back then as well.
The list goes on. I seen bugs in Mail, Safari, the installation itself.

iOS 6 (lol Well I start off by saying that these comments people make now are no different to what people made back then):

“The ios6 is a joke.... Apple keep saying there is no problem with the ios6, I have lost hundreds of photos , music games apps films worth a total of [censored] and they are doing nothing..... They keep saying to me that they need an order number, but there isn't an order number as they and not in my history.... Am now been told that I haven't been billed for things .... They are a [censored] joke.... I have tried resting and downloading from the iCloud which isn't working ... Tried uninstalling apps.... Not working.... They don't seem to be bothered about there problem with the ios6...... Time to move away from apple all together”
-Leighton82

“The problem is not Ios 6 but with the new apple corporate culture. Ios 6 is a total disaster that exposed apples willingness to handcuff users to an irreversible and often terminal download that has destroyed many iphones and ipads with Battery drain{ 3 hour battery life} , bluetooth problems, locations services problems, and hazard to navigation apple maps. A few minutes spent on Apple Support groups reveals multitudes of astonished loyal apple users being disabused and lied to at every level of Apple Support. Every new system has problems but Apple failure to be transparent about these problems and failure allow users to return to a functional operating system is a new low in corporate corruption.”

Wow this post is long. I don't blame you if you do TL;DR
Alright, let's get started:

  • Users reported that the Wi-Fi option on their phone is grayed out and unselectable. Related Wi-Fi problem specific to the iPhone 5 received absolutely zero data through the network.
  • After upgrading to iOS 6, some users found that the music in the Music app was gone. This appears to happen only if iTunes Match is enabled. The songs are listed but unplayable showing length of 0:00—or the entire app showed “No Data.”
  • Apps freezing were very common for my iPad 2 and iPhone 4. Passbook was completely nonfunctional and Podcasts didn't do the exact thing it was supposed to show- podcasts.
  • Apple Maps
  • Lock screen bug in iOS 6.1.3
  • a bug in the iOS 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 that causes Bluetooth GPS devices to become unreliable.

I find my devices today to be world's more stable than those two OSs. Haven't reinstalled OS X due to major issues since OS X Snow Leopard (or rather the reinstalls I do now are from developer created problem :D) and any bugs I reported in beta releases were fixed in the next build.

It should be pointed out that although this is a bug, it's a reassuring one. The security system has acted as designed, protecting you from potentially malicious tampering. Sure, you didn't really attempt to tamper with the device, but it'd be worse if the design would permit changes it was "unsure" about. The only safe thing to do in such a case was exactly what happened: a bricked device. That's exactly what should be happening when someone attempts to tamper with your device, e.g. if law enforcement tried to sniff around your device without your permission, etc.

Ever thought of applying for a job at Apple?
Right now they need people with a positive attitude like you ;-)

Any updates on a upcoming fix? Is it worth to wait and how long does it take to release anti-brick patch for iPhones/iPads after 9.3.2?

My wife uses a Surface Pro for work and hates it. Constantly disconnects from keyboard and crashes all the time. Screen orientation upside down at times as well. Another friend of mine got his Surface Pro a year ago and bragged about it until it died a month ago. So no the Surface Pro is not some magical replacement.
I meant the M$ Surface Pro with W10 is terribly bad! Sorry for the confusion :) and yes I have the same experience with it.

Yeah but even if a company is sitting on a pile of money they shouldn't needlessly throw it away on things that could be avoided.

I don't care any more. They should have better quality controls. If they don't and have to spend money to fix it - it is their problem and not mine. I guess you own Apple stock. lol

I have only seen reports about the 9.7" Pro. None about the larger model.

(Also a couple of reports of iPhones being bricked. Not sure if it's the same error.)
Yes agreed it seems to be the 9.7 inch only. Probably something in the update hitting the firmware...They are melting down the bricked ones...you can't open those things and replace bits....

As far as I can see, the upgrade to 9.3.2 has been pulled here in the UK.
My 9.7" says it is fully up to date on 9.3.1

It has only been pull in the last hour. But you are right, just checked and now it says iOS 9.3.1 is up to date'

At least that is a step in the right direction.

They better take as long as it take to get it right. No hurry here either.

EDIT: I should add that it could have been perhaps moderately understandable if it had caused problems with an old iPad model, but it is completely inexcusable for it not to work properly on their latest offering. After 4 betas. What the hell are they doing? Pretty poor show, sadly.

Same here in New Caledonia, it looks like Apple finally admitted that the update was responsible for the bricking of our iPad Pros...

Well I just confirmed that the iOS 9.3.2 update has been pulled. My replacement iPad Pro was on 9.3 and I upgraded it to 9.3.1. Now the iPad Pro tells me that it is up-to-date. I'm not sure if has been pulled for other devices.

If your iPad came back up, you should be in the clear on the error 56 issue. This particular issue happens immediately after the update.
Thanks for your response. I usually wait a week or so before downloading new updates, but this time I didn't. Thankfully, my iPad is running fine after the update. So I hope I'm out of the woods. Going forward I will definitely wait a week or so before updating.

Now this is the kind of snappy response we expect from Apple when these bricks start appearing.

This website needs to update the story adding the firmware pull update.

Same here.

9.3.2 available for my iP6 but it's been pulled for my iPad Pro 9.7.

Well done Apple.

PS... I'm not daring to upgrade my iPhone. o_O

I've seen no reports of phones getting bricked. Has anyone else?

iOS 9.3.2 is causing problems for some 9.7-inch iPad Pro owners, with multiple MacRumors readers and Twitter users reporting issues shortly after installing the update over the air. Affected users are seeing an "Error 56" message that instructs them to plug their devices into iTunes.

An iPad Pro bricked after installing iOS 9.3.2. Image via Twitter.

While not all 9.7-inch iPad Pro users have reported problems, there have been a number of reports on the MacRumors forums and on social networks, suggesting the problem is widespread. Attempting to restore through iTunes doesn't appear to resolve the issue. From MacRumors user NewtypeCJ:

According to Apple's error code support document, error 56 is a hardware issue. The document recommends installing the latest version of iTunes, checking for issues with third-party security software, and attempting a restore twice. Apple recommends customers who are still seeing the error message contact Apple support.

With a number of users affected by the bricking issue, Apple will likely need to release an updated version of iOS 9.3.2 that solves the problem.

Update May 17, 10:47 PM: Apple has issued a statement to iMore's Rene Ritchie, simply stating the company is "looking into a small number of reports" regarding this issue. No cause or specific solution has apparently been determined.
