I honestly don't get it, at this point in time. With all of the hacks, exploits, etc. out there, and the fact that Android software and hardware has evolved to the point where it's a viable option for someone who wants a higher level of customization.

To each his own, I suppose. But I would never jailbreak iOS anymore.
some people still don't want to leave the Apple ecosystem I guess

Good for you. Doesn't change the fact that there are other people than you who jailbreak to pirate.
Again, people also use bittorrent to download Linux. Nuff said.

And still there are even more people who use their hands to steal. Maybe we better start cutting off hands at birth

You get what you pay for. Hah! Go ahead and see what grief starts invading your once pristine iPhone or iPad. That's a sucker's bet now.

Crap, they didn't wait until 9.1?!?! I've been kind of bored with my 6s+ and am pumped JB is out, really all I want is to have more icons in my dock and a dark theme. I'm a bit bummed they didn't wait for 9.1 though as it's right around the corner and I'm sure it will break JB.

Vulnerabilities were patched in 9.1, causing them to use their exploit now.

So get in while you can. I'm gonna use my iPad on JB and my iPhone on release since I need to have the newest iOS for my job.

and you trust a chinese developer team to modify your iPhone firmware ?
Good luck ....

About as much as I trust an American developer.

Yours truly,
An American developer.

Maybe they realized iOS 9.1 beta that apple just released patches the jailbreak so there's no point waiting.

Sounds like that's exactly what happened. So enjoy the jailbreak for a little bit longer but with 9.1 coming and the big performance increases it brings along with bug fixes, I wouldn't bother staying on 9.0.2 just to keep the jailbreak at the expense of better performance.

so new iOS releases improve performance now? since when? :)

Of course, there are so many things you can do that Apple don't allow without a jailbreak.

Here are some:

- Changing font
- Tethering without carrier limits
- Theming
- f.lux (no, that GammaThingy is not a true copy)
- Swiping along the keyboard to move the cursor without needing an iPad or 6S
- Camera tweaks to customize the camera functionality
- Removing annoyances
- Scrobbling Apple Music tracks and Beats 1 in the background seamlessly

etc

None of that sounds interesting enough to jailbreak, no me at least. Good to know though.

I use to jailbreak since the first iPhone. Last time I did though was with the 5S.

Neither do I. But the last time I jailbroke an iPhone was a 3GS, when AT&T was the only official US carrier, and I wasn't going to use them. So I jailbroke to carrier unlock for TMO. I have to admit that I played around a little with a couple of apps from Cydia, but they were very buggy and caused my phone to be unstable. Once I was able to get onto VZW on the iPhone 4 I never looked back.

Right, like I'm gonna trust some sketchy software designed by a "Chinese team." Because I've been dying to have my personal data compromised by the Chinese government :D
you are right, only google, facebook, microsoft, apple and even this forum should sell my data! lol

Similar hands got elbow deep making the hardware and piecing it together in China, so I'm not really worried.

I also install software from outside of the Mac App Store, and even from homebrew(!). Why shouldn't I do the same on iOS? Why is f.lux dangerous on the iPhone, but not on OS X?

Your logic is not unreasonable.

But they're not the same, IMO. The iPhone/iOS ecosystem was closed from the start, and we live in a time when we, as a technology based society are a little more "eyes open" about security risks than we were in the "good old days" when OS X came about.

I work in an organization that allows our users to have access to our network, email system and certain other apps from their iOS devices because we know they're secure. We do not allow that same access to our employees PCs, including OS X based machines. The reasoning being that there are too many ways that lax security practices on the part of the employee can compromise our environment.

If it weren't for the fact that so many official app store apps are developed deliberately not to run on jailbroken devices, I would definitely still do it. It's not the olden days :/
