In theory? Yes. In reality? No. Not only does Matter not (yet) support the entire range of smart home products, but there are many existing products in people's homes that will never support Matter.Quick dumb question because I’m not too knowledgeable with home bridge but wouldn’t Matter make home bridge obsolete ?
same here I removed the two HomePod minis, I think it is due to a developer profile vs public profileIt’s strange, my OG HomePods updated to 16.2, but my two HomePod minis aren’t picking up the update yet. Meaning, it’s not showing up at all. Anyone else getting that? Wish there was a better way at updating the HomePods.
Considering how obvious this seems, the obvious conclusion is either:Exactly. Two 1Gbps Ethernet Apple TVs, one on wireless, and two HomePod Minis. Somehow one of the wireless devices always winds up being the home hub. Just why. That should be step one in the logic to decide which one to use.
I have updated my setup here I am running both Homebridge with about 10 devices and Scryted that has about 9 unifi cameras haven't seen any issues yet. Everything seems to feel a bit snappier and quicker for sure, probably just a placebo effectSo anyone try updating and see if it breaks homebridge yet?
Thank you. It is a significant update so the fact that homebridge is not broken out of the box is a great sign.I have updated my setup here I am running both Homebridge with about 10 devices and Scryted that has about 9 unifi cameras haven't seen any issues yet. No. Not even remotely correct. So 16.1 supposedly gives us matter but not really til 16.2? What a tease
It’s unlikely as if it broke homebridge wouldnt it break other bridges too?So anyone try updating and see if it breaks homebridge yet?
I was worried I was imagining this but I’m glad you’ve confirmed it.Mine work, but it’s not near a fast to respond as before. I have my side door light set to come in when I get home, and before it would come on before I pulled into the driveway. Now it comes on when I’m already in the garage.
I have found that the hue products are the least reliable ones out of all my devices. For some reason they don’t always respond to their commands, and it is not because of homekit. For instance, I have four lights grouped together in my living room. I told him to turn on, and sometimes only three do or they don’t go to the correct brightness, but the same thing happens without using HomeKit. 🤷🏼♂️I hope it fixes the terribleness of the Home app and overall HomeKit experience (at least for me).
I only have Hue items and two HomePod minis and Siri can never seem to do what I ask. Scenes are set up properly in the Home app and work if I use my iPhone, but if I use my HomePod she'll set the scene but the colors are always off. Or, only half the lights will work or everything will work and she'll say "hmmm, some lights failed to respond" (despite everything working fine)... years ago, pre HomePod, everything worked flawlessly but now it's a disaster.
Do you mean which Wi-Fi network the HomePod joins? It can only be configured to join one SSID at a time.
The “matter accessories” screen that was in 16.1 beta is not in 16.1 final, although several announcements say it is. It is currently very hard to determine what, if anything, the matter support in my devices (atv, HomePod mini, phone, iPad) is doing.No. Not even remotely correct.
You've never been able to select which hub is your main hub. If you're saying it IS possible, which goes against the many thousands of comments and threads devoted specifically to wishing to be able to do exactly this, please detail the process. They're repeaters, not hubs. You can pick which is the main one.
Only if every manufacturer of every smart device ever made suddenly implements Matter. How likely do you think that will be? HomeBridge ain’t going anywhere.Quick dumb question because I’m not too knowledgeable with home bridge but wouldn’t Matter make home bridge obsolete ?
Correct, but you can’t pick. In my instance I have a garage on the property that I converted to an office. Just enough signal from the main house can be picked up that the wifi settings within the HomePod at the converted office will sometimes choose the one from the main house even though it’s right next to the wireless router in the office. Therefore what happens is the default hub changes causing issues. It would be nice like you said to exclude and/or have the ability to pick the wifi network you want a hub to connect to in the Home app. Not just pull the device info from your iPhone during HomePod setups. Heck, even though I have an TV in the office and I have selected it to only connect to the office within the HomeKit settings within the TV, sometimes my daughter’s HomePod mini that’s I’d say is close to 100’ away will be selected as the default hub for the office. It’s maddening and I even have her HomePod mini blocked to join the office network and the HomePod in my office blocked in the main home’s Wi-Fi network. Apple Support, Tier 2, said the backend servers choose the hub at times.![]()
It was a beta. Likely a design change before the final release. The “matter accessories” screen that was in 16.1 beta is not in 16.1 final, although several announcements say it is. Apple- "best we can do is some new voices for Siri." lolThe best upgrade would be fixing Siri
You've been able to do that for years.
