so does this mean i'll have to jailbreak my car now if i want to add non-apple-approved accessories?
i hope some developer doesnt decide to disable my accelerator if i do jailbreak...

Looking forward to seeing how it works with the Appradio 3.

AppRadio3 will not have iOS In The Car support since that feature is still in beta. im almost 100% sure. i have one, and see no mention of it. AR4 perhaps. and judging from pioneer's awful support behavior in the past, they will not support AR3 down the line.

How do they monetize off this?

ecosystem drives hardware sales.

Would like to see them partner with some companies making replaceable head units, too, rather than having to buy a whole new car just to get this sort of thing.

>>>>>>>>>>

You're absolutely right. If they make this a "new car" non upgradeable deal, then it will the way of the cube and Ping. If they made it an aftermarket "thing" that is upgradeable then I think it will work.

To me, this is one of the most exciting things in iOS7. There's a lot of innovative technology in 7, but this is such a good idea and looks to be executed in typical Apple fashion. Why create an entire in-dash system like Microsoft sync when you could just hook your iPhone up to the car and get a special UI on the display with different functionality?

I have wanted this feature for sometime! Glad Apple is going for it... However I do wish you could upgrade head units also. But knowing Apple...

Apple needs to make a car or it could be in danger of burning out.

If they really wanted to make a car they should buy Tesla to get a massive head start. They're already designed and built in California, after all. I don't see it happening, though.

NEWSFLASH: iGas allows you to pay for gas using your iTunes account, gas stations get 70% of sales, Apple pockets 30%, gas stations bake 30% "apple tax" into price per gallon, effectively raising gas to $6.00 per gallon.

My next car will have this! I keep my cars a while, so it matters. My dash-mount setup now is pretty nice (and safe) but I want better.

(PS... Trolls are trying way too hard pretending this is something different than it actually is.)

I wonder why Toyota isn't included, hopefully they will in the future.

My friends have (Toyota) Scions and Lexus that have integrated iPod/iPhone built-in as a standard feature. This includes supporting iOS playlist/track selection via the steering wheel. Has been this way for a few years.

Unless there is some unheard-of animosity between Toyota and Apple that we don't know about, I'm pretty confident that Toyotas will make it into the list.

Two other car manufacturers in my experience -- Honda and BMW/Mini -- are "iOS/iPod/iPhone" friendly.

Good to hear. I am so sick of car manufacturers' systems. It would be great if they put AirPlay in cars instead of Bluetooth, which works 50% of the time and works badly.

iOS in the Car "Very Important To Apple"

Duh... It couldn't be any more obvious.

Apple is no different than any other enterprise. They're in it for the money.

And when it comes to money, Apple's a vicious competitor with freshly sharpened legal fangs.

Honda isn't too good. I feel like the car treats an iPod/iPhone like a generic music player instead of an iPod... as if anyone uses a Zune. It sometimes has problems playing music and doesn't show up as an audio output device on the iPhone.

What isn't 'Very Important' to Apple ? Everything apple makes is 'Very Important' to Apple.

Yeah I dont get why Tim didn't say "Meh, it's a mediocre product that we really don't care much about"

He's such a poor CEO...

Notably absent is Ford who originally worked with Microsoft for their in-car system and now is trying to do it on their own instead of pairing with iOS. Ford has even been sued for how awful their system is with constant crashes and problems.

Ford sued Microsoft over it? I can't find that anywhere, but if it's true, that's hilarious.

I wonder if you could replace apple maps with Google??

Be nice to have street view, I use that all the time whereas flyover is kinda pointless in my opinion.

Samsung will come out with TouchWiz in the car shortly, for all the Android fans here, don't worry.
