I would suspect that it would be up to the developer. Good point though. I am scratching my head now.

I'd hope that would be a user preference, possibly per application. Some people would find a 5.5" iPad impossibly small, others would be quite happy with it, but there will always be apps where the larger iPad screen is more useful or less useful and it would be great to choose.

Of course it will. But I'm pretty sure that Apple has rather the 5.5" iPhone eating into them instead of, say, a Galaxy Note 4.

Old saying: "If you don't cannibalise your own products, someone else will. "

I hope they keep the 4-inch size around too. 4, 4.7, and 5.5 inch would be nice and would cover everyone's preferences. I only use phones with one hand, so I'd hate to lose that option when I eventually upgrade.

Am I the only one who wants a 3.5-inch phone? The 3GS was perfect for me. Even the iPhone 5S that I have now is a little too big for me to use with one hand. There's no way I can buy a 5.5-inch phone for myself.

This is getting insane, IMO.

I'm sorry to say this but yes.

Well, maybe not the only one, but definitely part of a very VERY small crowd of people. You're in the room with people that wanted the 3MB diskette and the faster horse.

I hear you.

I've been using an iPad mini with cellular as my main and only mobile device since the original mini came out, and it feels great to have a superior device, pay less for my mobile plan, and not care about the social stigma.

You're a maniac! But hey, if you like it, I love it.

Social backlash...

Hmm, anyone who judges people by their choice of smartphone screen size doesn't deserve my time.
Adios!

Great friend filter!

Glassed Silver:mac

Agreed!

This is good for me, as I'm dropping the 5S and the iPad mini for a 5.5". The only loss I really considered is covered by this.

My plan too! Well I already sold the rMini and grabbed a MacBook Air but I'm hoping the 5.5 inch can do everything that I need while on the go.

Edit: that's what she said.

???

My response was to someone wanting an iPad app to run on the large screen iphone. Presumably if you download an iPad version of an app that is your user preference right there, no?

On iPad I can choose to download the iPhone version (should one exist) and the iPad version. User preference is based on which I want to download.

This doesn't require the 5.5" iPhone. Here's a screenshot I just took in the 5S Simulator using Apple's sample code from Session 216.

True... that's why I tried to focus on the size of the screen... not the entire device.

A 5.5" screen and an 8" screen aren't as close as people are implying.

Oh and today, I tried to get an iPad Mini in my jeans pocket for a laugh. It fit!!!
These are Trevor Cinch 32x38.

Never thought I’d say this but I’ll reserve judgement about which to purchase until I get both in my hands.
I also have a Nokia 625 which is the same size as the iP6 will be. After getting used to that over the last few months the jump to the 6+ won’t be so large.

How is wanting a smaller screen that just better fits into my hand anything like that? It's not.

Tech trends my friend tech trends.

There was a time when people thought the 3.5" iPhone was a huge brick of a phone.

The industry changes with the consumers. People want bigger phones and the more people that want them the more likely the companies making them will cater to them.

Well, that explains why they aren't making 3.5" versions, but it's not like I have antiquated views like you suggested. I just have different preferences. I want a phone that I can comfortably use one-handed more than extra screen space.

But it is an antiquated view. Nothing wrong with that though.

Mac Pro users are going through the same thing. The Mac workstation has changed and folks like me that want giant towers are "old school"

Imagine how the people that still want physical keyboards feel.
